Nashik civic body to chop 154 trees to build STP at Agartakli

The tree authority department of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has called for suggestions and objections from people regarding the felling of trees and will accept submissions till July 31.
The garden department has also said they will plant at least 10 trees for each tree axed. Moreover, trees like peepal and banyan, will be transplanted elsewhere.
"If a tree that is to be chopped is 15 years old, then we will plant 15 trees.
We will calculate the total age of all the 154 trees to be chopped and will plant trees accordingly…Considering the average age of 10 years of all the trees, around 1,500 trees will be planted in the city," said Bhadane.
The proposed STP is part of the Rs 1,475 crore Godavari purification projectwhich is slated to be completed before the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, scheduled to be held between 2026 and 2028.
At Agartakli, NMC wants to build the new STP with a 97MLD capacity. A private agency has been finalised and work order has been given to the agency so far. At present 11 STPs in the city collectively have a total treatment capacity of 392million litres daily (MLD).

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to recruit 72 ex-servicemen to be deployed across the city's six divisions to tackle issues like littering, garbage burning, and use of banned plastics. Twelve teams with six ex-military men each are to be set up for NMC's six divisions. The teams will impose monetary fines on people indulging in littering, garbage burning and spitting. Even those not segregating waste at source and putting up illegal hoardings and banners will also be penalised. The civic body has already decided on the amount of fines for different violations, besides putting out an advertisement for the appointment of ex-military men for this purpose. The selected ex-military men are to be appointed on an honorarium basis. NMC plans to pay their honorarium through the amount collected from fines. NMC's general body recently gave its approval to the proposal of the civic administration to deploy ex-military men to take monetary action against erring people in the city. If construction and demolition waste is disposed of along roads, a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed on the person concerned. "The civic body has also decided to take action against residents who do not segregate waste at source. It is mandatory for residents to segregate waste as dry and wet before handing it over to the garbage vans of the municipal corporation. However, most residents do not segregate the waste. Hence, a fine of Rs 300 will be imposed for the first offence, and if it continues, a fine of Rs 500 will be imposed for the second offence," the official said.

Rising demand prompts NMC to open 7th English med school
1 2 Nagpur: With a surge in demand for English medium education, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), in collaboration with Akanksha Foundation, is set to open a new English medium school in the city. This comes after the civic body received 772 applications for 287 seats across its existing six English medium schools for the 2024-25 academic session. The initiative aims to provide free, quality education in English medium to underprivileged children in the city. Last year too, 825 applications were received for 353 available seats, leaving around 472 students without admission. Given the overwhelming response from parents, the new school will be housed in Sadar's Rai Bahadur Goverdhandas Gopikisan Rajaramka (RBGGR) School under the joint supervision of NMC education department and Akanksha Foundation. The school will be affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education and will begin with admissions to junior KG and senior KG with the intake has been fixed at 80 students — 40 each in junior KG and senior KG. Speaker awards dad-daughter duo for saving tiger
