Saquon Barkley compares Eagles-Commanders rivalry to Auburn being little brother to Bama

Let this be a lesson to the Commanders. Revenge is still a dish that is best served cold.
NFL stars and Philadelphia Eagles head coaches have long bored us with stories about treating each game equally. They've often told us they feel nothing when playing teams that gave up on them or told them their time was ending.
Most of us have never doubted that Saquon Barkley wants to perform at an elite level against the New York Giants. While we understand the professionalism and the typical coach speak surrounding the issue, we would appreciate hearing someone confidently proclaim, "I told you so," much like a young Cassius Clay.
Occasionally, we get a glimpse of our teams showing the same pettiness that we sometimes exhibit, and we have Nick Sirianni to thank for that. Although he would never admit it, few people hold a grudge quite like Philadelphia's head coach, which is one reason his players admire him. No one facilitates his players getting the 'last word' better than the man on the sideline in the visor.
Philadelphia has not lost often under Coach Sirianni lately, but their most recent loss provided an opportunity to refocus, restrategize, and secure the last word in the NFC Championship Game.
Remember that Eagles' loss to the Washington Commanders?
It was a game that many will never forget. In Week 16, the Philadelphia Eagles faced the Washington Commanders. Jalen Hurts left the game early due to a concussion, and the Commanders made a remarkable comeback. They scored 22 points in the final quarter, leading to a stunning 36-33 defeat for the Eagles.
Washington took the field and celebrated. They celebrated too hard. They stormed the field. Players flapped their imaginary wings. Few have said the following this way, but it seemed easy to wonder if that fueled the Eagles' performance vs. those same Commanders five weeks later at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Eagles arrived to play in the NFC Championship Game, with a trip to Super Bowl 59 on the line. Standing in their way was Washington. However, Washington no longer had their biggest advantage: the element of surprise. They had already played that card over a month ago. To make matters worse for them, Philadelphia hadn't forgotten about the excessive celebration that had caused a stir earlier.
You know something? Maybe this answers the previous question. This is why players skate around questions and their head coaches talk in riddles. Perhaps there is some truth to the theories about bulletin board material and 'poking the bear'.
We appreciate Barkley for opening up. Hey, it gave us something to talk about, and here's a tip of the cap to Washington. Ignoring Barkley during free agency may have fired him up as much as the Giants did. Celebrating a Week 16 win like it was a victory in Super Bowl 59 helped give the Birds all the ammunition they needed to win the second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.

New Discouraging Update on Commanders Star's Holdout Emerges

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. As training camp nears, the Washington Commanders still find themselves with off-field drama hanging over their heads. After opting not to partake in minicamp, wide receiver Terry McLaurin continues to hold out in search of a new contract. McLaurin is in the final year of his current deal and is eager to lock down a long-term commitment with the franchise. This comes on the heels of the veteran wide receiver having a career year. Paired with a new young dynamic quarterback Jayden Daniels, he tallied his fifth straight 1,000-yard season and racked up a career-high 13 touchdowns. Since this ordeal began, the Commanders have maintained a positive mindset that things will work themselves out before the season gets underway. However, most updates regarding the situation have not been encouraging. The latest discourse about McLaurin's holdout revealed he is still at odds with the front office as they continue to negotiate. Fowler said Sunday on SportsCenter the Commanders 'have a couple of weeks here to make progress' before they risk seeing McLaurin's holdout continue into training camp." This update comes on the heels of one of the NFL's top insiders also having lackluster things to say about McLaurin's holdout. Last week ESPN's Adam Schefter was a guest on The Pat McAfee Show to discuss various topics across the league. While speaking about the Commanders' star, he cited that minimal progress has been made when it comes to him getting a new contract and rejoining the team. "There's no update which is the update. And that's the problem," Schefter said. "There really is quite a difference and a gap between what both sides would want. They have not made any progress." "There's no update on the Terry McLaurin situation and that's the problem.. There is quite a gap between what both sides want right now and they have not made any progress"@AdamSchefter #PMSLive — Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) June 30, 2025 Also read: Raiders Cited as Possible Landing Spot For Commanders Star Amid Holdout For the Commanders, the clock is ticking to get a deal done. Fresh off reaching the NFC Championship game and making offseason upgrades, they're eager to contend right now. That said, the team isn't going to achieve its goals if this situation is still lingering in the background. McLaurin is a foundational piece to the franchise and a key component of the offense. Because of this, they'll need the star receiver committed and locked in if Washington is going to continue on its upward trajectory. NBA Twitter reacts to VJ Edgecombe's Sixers summer league debut

The Philadelphia 76ers began summer league on Saturday night when they took on the Utah Jazz in the Salt Lake City version. It was the first of three games the Sixers will play in Utah before heading out to Las Vegas on July 10. The Sixers took a tough 93-89 loss to the Jazz, but they have to be encouraged by the play of rookie guard VJ Edgecombe. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft showed off everything in his game as he scored 28 points with 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. He showed off his athleticism and made a few plays that showed off a surprising savviness for a player so young. Advertisement Also, Edgecombe won the individual battle with No. 5 overall pick, Ace Bailey who had eight points on 3-for-13 shooting with seven rebounds. Phillies' Jesus Luzardo is Significantly Worse With Runners on Base in Recent Starts

Phillies' Jesus Luzardo is Significantly Worse With Runners on Base in Recent Starts originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Phillies' starting rotation has been one of the best in baseball this season. Zack Wheeler, Ranger Suarez, and Christopher Sanchez have been dominant, especially in the last month. Advertisement The same cannot be said for Jesus Luzardo. After his latest outing, this time against the Cincinnati Reds, Luzardo's ERA jumped up to 4.44. He managed only two innings, allowing five earned runs and six hits. His struggles are of major concern for the Phillies, and Matt Gelb of The Athletic shared a statistic that points towards his struggles recently. Since June 5th, when Luzardo changed his mechanics from the stretch, he has had a "drastic gap in his performance," according to Gelb. With no one on base, Luzardo has a .226 batting average allowed, with a .294 OBP, a .242 slugging percentage, six walks, and 23 strikeouts in 68 plate appearances. Advertisement But, with runners on, and pitching out of the stretch, Luzardo is allowing batters to hit .423/.492/.692 with seven walks and 11 strikeouts in 59 plate appearances. Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo (44) pitches against the Atlanta Braves during the first inning at Truist Zanine-Imagn Images It's a stark difference for Luzardo, and it points to his struggles from the stretch, which have caused his blowup outings. If he can keep runners off the base paths, he pitches well. But once runners get on, the traffic doesn't stop. Luzardo's season has been the tale of two halves. Through his first 11 starts, Luzardo had a 2.15 ERA and a 5-0 record with 77 strikeouts and 19 walks. But, since May 31st, things have gone very poorly. Advertisement He's started seven games in that span, has an ERA of 9.49, and has struck out 38 batters while walking 16. Despite his struggles, the potential is still there, evident by his six-inning outing against the Chicago Cubs and 6.2-inning outing against the New York Mets. But he's struggled too much lately, and after his latest start, there is palpable concern with the back end of the rotation in Philadelphia. Mick Abel was sent down, Andrew Painter is struggling in Triple-A, and Luzardo can't find his stuff. The sheer difference in performance for Luzardo with runners on and off the base paths is of major concern. If he can't figure things out soon, the Phillies could be in trouble with the back end of their rotation.
