‘Dawson's Creek' star James Van Der Beek gives heartbreaking cancer update: My kids know when I'm ‘in pain'
The 'Dawson's Creek' alum publicly shared the news of his diagnosis last November.
'I have colorectal cancer. I've been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,' Van Der Beek, 48, exclusively told People at the time. 'There's reason for optimism, and I'm feeling good.'

The 'Varsity Blues' star has been married to his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek (née Brook), since 2010. The couple share six children: daughters Olivia, Annabel, Emilia and Gwendolyn, and sons Joshua and Jeremiah.
During his July 30 appearance on the 'Today' show, Van Der Beek recalled the experience of discussing his diagnosis with his kids.
'I'm far from an expert, but our approach was just to be as honest as possible, as honest to the degree of their understanding,' he explained.

'They know. They can sense that Dad's having a tough day. They know if Dad's in pain,' he continued. 'By not telling them, I think you're confusing them even more.'
Van Der Beek said he's learned that children are often stronger than adults give them credit for.
'Allow yourself to be surprised by their resiliency,' he said. 'When you tell them what you're doing, and you tell them the approach, they can see it, and they can feel it. And I think it's also that your journey is their journey.'

He spoke about how his children have supported him through his journey, urging others not to 'rob them of the opportunity to show up for you.'
'I have [my] kids making me tea. 'Dad, what do you need?' There's been a lot of beauty that's come out of it,' he said.
In an Instagram video posted on March 8, Van Der Beek opened up about being away from his family while undergoing treatment.

'I was away for treatment, so I could no longer be a husband who was helpful to my wife,' he explained in the clip. 'I could no longer be a father who could pick up his kids and put them to bed and be there for them. I could not be a provider because I wasn't working.'
Van Der Beek's wife was in the studio during his appearance on the 'Today' show on Wednesday and appeared briefly on screen.
Despite his battle, he said he is 'feeling great' at the moment.

'There are just so many ups and downs and so many unknowns,' he explained. 'Cancer is — I call it a full-time job.'
Van Der Beek is continuing to work despite the diagnosis, having just finished filming 'Elle,' a 'Legally Blonde' prequel series slated for release on Prime Video in summer 2026.

YouTube is testing Instagram-style collabs
YouTube has started testing a new collaboration feature, similar to Instagram's and TikTok's. A Google employee explained on YouTube Help that it will allow creators to add collaborators to a video so that they can be recommended to each other's audiences. The test is only available to a small group of creators for now, but it sounds like YouTube has plans to expand its availability in the future. Lindsey Gamble, an influencer marketing consultant and advisor, has posted a screenshot showing how the experimental feature works on Threads. As you can see in the image Gamble posted, adding collaborators would show their names next to the creators on their channel. If there are too many, at least on mobile, the collaborators would show as "...and more" next to the creator's name. Tapping on it would bring up the list of people involved in the project, with the Subscribe button next to their name. On Instagram and TikTok, the creator who uploads the content will have to invite another account as a collaborator, who'll then have to approve the invitation. That'll most likely be the case here, as well, in order to ensure that creators don't randomly add other users to their videos. It's not clear, however, whether the collaborators can see details typically reserved for the uploader's eyes. As with any experimental YouTube and Google product, the company will be taking the testers' feedback into account before deciding if it'll give the feature a wide release. fff

New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson and Philadelphia 76ers legend Charles Barkley fell into that category on the golf course. Barkley, who is considered one of the best players in the history of the league, is famous for his unorthodox golf swing. He was on the golf course posing with Brunson, his father Rick Brunson, and legendary Villanova coach Jay Wright via the younger Brunson's Instagram account. The legendary Sixers forward certainly like he avoided any lowlights when considering there was no other video clip on Twitter. Brunson and the Knicks have to be considered the favorites in the Eastern Conference in the 2025-26 season. They are currently the healthiest team and have their core intact from a conference finals run the previous season. The Sixers will look for their own clean bill of health to take down the Knicks in the coming season.

I came back, and my legs were shaking. Everything's shaking on me. And so that's a really important part of my life, is to be in the gym and work out and push myself physically," she says. "I love to do that. And I want to be in another adventure movie. I want to be in a movie where I can show those attributes that I have. That's what I want to do." Hamel agrees, celebrating his partner as "perfect to be an action hero." "The reality is, she's taller than most women and in great physical condition," he says, adding to Cassidy, "You could probably do all your own stunts as well. And I think there's room for a female action hero out there." "Don't get me wrong, I played a lot of grannies too. I was a granny in Six Feet Under, and I enjoyed the heck out of that.
