Robert Shapiro, the lead defense attorney in Simpson's infamous murder trial, said Diddy would likely face two to three-and-a-half years in prison after being acquitted of sex-trafficking and racketeering but convicted for lesser prostitution offenses.
'Having seen that this judge did not release him on bail, I think a message may be coming that you're going to be spending a lot more time, so no reason to let you come out and come back in,' Shapiro told Fox News Digital.
Shapiro noted that in denying Diddy bail, Judge Arun Subramanian mentioned the mogul's 'propensity for violence,' citing the 2016 footage of the rapper assaulting Cassie Ventura in a hotel hallway in Los Angeles.
'If the judge looks at that tape in his mind and is reminded about it again… I think there is a real chance that a substantial sentence will be forthcoming,' the attorney said.
Shapiro's comments come as Diddy, his lawyers, and prosecutors are expected to meet with Judge Subramanian for a post-trial hearing on Tuesday to discuss a sentencing schedule.

The music mogul, 55, was acquitted of sex-trafficking and racketeering on Wednesday but convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
The disgraced mogul's lawyers want less than the 21 to 27 months in prison that they believe the sentencing guidelines recommend. Prosecutors contend that the guidelines, when properly calculated to include Diddy's crimes and violent history, call for at least four to five years in prison.
After tentatively setting Diddy's sentencing for October, the judge said he is open to a defense request that it happen as soon as possible, with further discussions expected at a conference Tuesday.
Diddy's punishment is Judge Arun Subramanian's decision alone, and the judge will have wide latitude in determining a sentence. While judges often adhere to the federal judiciary's formulaic guidelines meant to prevent disparity in sentences for the same crimes, they are not mandatory.
Diddy's lead attorney Marc Agnifilo, who had asked the judge to release him on a $1 million bond, insisted to Subramanian that he had changed dramatically in the last year.
But Subramanian was unmoved and denied him bail, citing his 'propensity for violence' against his ex-girlfiends and accusers Cassie Ventura and 'Jane.'
The maximum possible sentence for each of the prostitution convictions is 10 years in prison.
Diddy has already spent 10 months in jail, since his September arrest.

Mr Cartwright, 61, is standing trial at Guildford Crown Court accused of raping and murdering Ms Mickleburgh between April 12 and 14 last year. He also denies one count of controlling and coercive behaviour between May 1 2022 and April 14 2024. Mr Cartwright called the emergency services to hotel on the morning of April 14 last year after he 'apparently discovered the cold, lifeless body of his partner, lying on her back next to him'. The prosecutor said a post mortem examination had revealed bruising to Ms Mickleburgh's forehead, scalp, right jaw, left neck and the bursting of blood vessels under the skin. A 'blunt impact' to the forehead is said to have been so severe that it fractured her skull. Tests revealed the presence of Mr Cartwright's semen inside her body, the prosecutor said. 'You will have to consider with great care whether…. she voluntarily engaged in intercourse with him,' the prosecutor said. A SENTENCING date for Sean "Diddy" Combs has been set after the music mogul was convicted of two prostitution-related charges at his high-profile trial. Combs, who was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges, will be sentenced on October 3. 3 3 3 Combs faces a maximum 20-year prison sentence - 10 years for each count of transportation to engage in prostitution. However, federal prosecutors have said they would seek a 5 to 3 year sentence. The time Combs has already served in jail, which will be over a year since his arrest in September 2024, would be credited to the ultimate sentence the judge imposes. Combs' defense team initially sought to expedite Combs' sentencing after Judge Arun Subramanian, who presided over the seven-week trial, denied to release the Bad Boy Records founder, 55, on bail. In a letter to Judge Subramanian, Marc Agnifilo, Combs' lead attorney, requested a September 22 sentencing date before eventually agreeing to October 3 - the date the judge initially set for sentencing.
