My first day at school
The first day of school is often considered an important day in everyone's life. It is like a new world to us. It is a time of mixed emotions, like nervousness, excitement, homesickness, feelings of shyness, and the like.
I felt a bit nervous in the new environment. The boys of my class looked at me with wonder and smiled. I had with me my English alphabet textbook and got my first lesson in learning the alphabets -- A B C.
The day started with the teacher introducing herself and explaining the daily routine. We recited the alphabets, sang nursery rhymes and listened to interesting stories.
Soon the bell for the recess rang. The boys rushed out of the classroom with excitement. Some of them even gathered around me. They laughed and made fun of me for being so shy. A few sympathised and befriended me. We played games, shared our snacks, and laughed together. It was a novel experience. The final bell to go home rang at 1:30 pm. All the boys felt happy. I took my school bag and hurried back home along with my mother, who was waiting for me at the school gate.
While walking back, I realised that my first day was not just about learning the alphabets; it was about making new friends and settling myself as a new student. The morning, which was full of uncertainty, ended with exciting adventures and endless possibilities.
Years later, the memory of my first day at school is still fresh in my mind. I feel proud when I describe it to others. My first day in school was completely a new experience for me. It fills me with pride when I look back at it and share my experience with others. I feel my first day helped me become confident in school, which eventually shaped the rest of my years there. Today, several years later, I feel happy that I went to school. If I hadn't, I would be doing odd jobs like running errands, watering the lawns, scrubbing utensils, looking after the sick and the aged, or even washing clothes and wouldn't be able to become a writer or share my experiences with readers like you.

103-year-old Government Higher Primary School in Mangaluru starts English medium classes
Over a century old Government Higher Primary School in Bejai Kapikad, near KSRTC bus stand in Mangaluru, is among 115 government schools in Dakshina Kannada which have been permitted by the State government to start English medium classes from the academic year 2025-26. The school, established in 1922, currently has a total of 63 students from Classes 1 to 7, along with three permanent teachers, including headmistress Leena Irine Goveas, and two guest teachers. The school also has two cooks to provide 'Bisi Oota' (mid-day meal) to students. Headmistress Ms. Goveas said the permission to offer English classes was granted on July 2. 'Though the academic year has already started, we hope to have an admission of new students to English medium of Class 1,' Ms Goveas told The Hindu. Ms Goveas said the school has 10 computers that have computer-aided teaching tools. The students were being trained in kho-kho and kabaddi, Ms. Goveas said. The school was among the list of government schools mentioned in the 'Namagaagi' portal of Dakshina Kannada district administration ( seeking donations for the improvement of facilities. The school has sought donations for the construction of three additional classrooms, a one-meter-long compound wall, a kitchen room, a rainwater harvesting facility, a laboratory room, and two drinking water purifiers. The school was among the 15 government primary schools in Mangaluru North block, which has secured permission to start English medium classes this year. Twenty schools in Bantwal, 18 in Puttur, 16 each in Belthangady and Mangaluru South, and 15 schools each in Moodibidri and Sullia blocks have also received permission. A total of 120 government schools in Dakshina Kannada were already managing English medium section in their schools. In Udupi, a total of 78 schools have been granted permission to start English medium classes from the 2025-26 academic year. As many as 18 schools were located in the Brahmavar block, while 15 schools each belonged to the Byndoor, Karkala, Kundapura, and Udupi blocks.

Back in 1824, the Bombay Native Education Society opened an English-medium school for Indian students, a bold and progressive step for those times. By 1827, the idea of a college took shape. It was named after Mountstuart Elphinstone, the then Governor of the Bombay Presidency, who strongly believed in education reforms. UGC NET provisional answer keys 2025 released; Check direct link, steps to download here
UGC NET 2025 June Updates: The National Testing Agency(NTA) has released the UGC NET 2025 provisional answer key for the June session 2025. The examination for the UGC NET 2025 June session was held between June 25 to June 29, 2025. The provisional response sheets is now available on their official website for the UGC NET 2025 June session, the link for which is given as follows- Candidates are required to enter their application number, date of birth (DOB), and captcha code to access the answer keys and NTA responses. Steps to download Step 1: Go onto the official NTA UGC NET 2025 website Step 2: Enter the required credentials like application number, DOB and captcha code to log in. Step 3: You can now view and download NTA response answers and your answer scripts. Step 4: You can compare the NTA response answers and your answers with the help of the given question IDs. Step 5: Incase of any discrepancy, candidates can object the answers by selecting them and attaching a PDF supporting their claim. Step 6: The objection will process after the payment of the fees. Additional Information- It is noteworthy that candidates will be charged a non-refundable fee of Rs. 200 per question, in case the objection is found right. Also the objection window is only open from July 6th to July 8th last by 5PM including payment of the objection fees. The payment can be made by online modes like credit/ debit cards, internet banking and UPI payment last by 5PM of July 8th. After the conclusion of the objection window, the objected questions and answers will be scrutinised and verified by a panel of experts in the subject. UGC NET will notify a revised answer key and results according to the changes in the answer key if any. This answer key will be final. The UGC NET 2025 exams for June session were conducted in both Hindi and English except for the language papers. These exams allow candidates, if selected, to be eligible for junior Research Fellowship (JRF), or be appointed as an assistant professor in colleges, or take admissions in PhD courses in India.
