Indiana Fever Make Final Roster Decision On DeWanna Bonner originally appeared on The Spun.
The DeWanna Bonner drama has finally come to an end for the Indiana Fever.
During this past offseason, the Fever signed Bonner to a one-year contract because of her championship pedigree and consistent production. Unfortunately for the front office, she stopped suiting up for games due to "personal reasons." It later came out that she wasn't happy coming off the bench for Stephanie White's squad.

Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports reported Tuesday that Bonner has "no interest" in returning to the Fever.
"Multiple sources told Front Office Sports that the fit in Indiana was 'off' from the beginning," Costabile wrote. "Bonner—who was signed to be an anchor with championship experience for the team's young core—was expected to be a starter."
Less than 24 hours later, Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis Star reported that Bonner is being waived this Wednesday. They won't have to worry about a buyout or a monetary penalty since Bonner agreed to an unprotected $200,000.
Bonner will finish her time with the Fever averaging 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest. Her skillset just didn't fit in Indiana's fast-paced offense.

The Fever will fill Bonner's roster spot with Aari McDonald. She's expected to sign a one-year contract at the veteran minimum.

McDonald filled in admirably for Caitlin Clark during her brief absence, averaging 11 points per game.
Now that Indiana has put this situation in the past, it's possible the locker room will be able to operate with a bit more freedom.
As for Bonner, it's unclear what's next for her. According to Front Office Sports, her preferred landing spots are the Atlanta Dream and Phoenix Mercury.

Fever Coach Stephanie White Issues Apology After Caitlin Clark Decision

Fever Coach Stephanie White Issues Apology After Caitlin Clark Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There was a lot of anticipation ahead of what should have been the first-ever WNBA matchup between Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers. Unfortunately, a groin injury prevented the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year from taking the court on Friday as a shorthanded Indiana Fever side defeated the Dallas Wings, 94-86. Advertisement There was some hope that Clark would be able to suit up on Friday night despite being forced to miss Thursday's 85-75 loss against the Los Angeles Sparks. Fever head coach Stephanie White, however, revealed before the Wings game that the team is currently looking at the "big picture" in terms of Clark's injury, which was a significant factor in Indiana's decision to let the 23-year-old sit out on Friday. White was well aware of the excitement surrounding the Dallas game, which is why she decided to issue an apology to the fans. "I'm sorry for the people who are coming," White said on Friday, via Nathan Baird of IndyStar. "I think I feel a disappointment for them, more than anything, because I want them to see her at her best and us at her best. "I hate that for fans, but at the same time, for us as a team and for Caitlin as a person and player, her health and wellness is the priority." Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark missed her much-anticipated matchup against Paige Smith/INDIANAPOLIS STAR-Imagn Images White also said that Clark remains "day to day" with her injury, which means that her status for Tuesday's Commissioner's Cup championship game against the Minnesota Lynx remains up in the air at this point. Advertisement That, too, is a much-anticipated matchup for Clark and the Fever, and there's no denying that more than a few supporters will be left disappointed if the former Iowa star is forced to sit that one out as well. However, White has also made it clear that the team has Clark's best interests at heart, particularly when it comes to her long-term health. As such, it does not sound like they're going to force her back into action unless she's fully recovered from this latest injury. Caitlin Clark Takes on Unexpected Job for Indiana Fever After Injury Setback

Caitlin Clark Takes on Unexpected Job for Indiana Fever After Injury Setback originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever got back to winning ways on Friday with a 94-86 win over Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. It was a good bounce-back victory for Indiana after losing to the Los Angeles Sparks at home on Thursday, 85-75. Advertisement The Fever got the win despite missing the services of Caitlin Clark, who sat out for a second straight contest due to a lingering groin injury. There was some hope that the former Iowa superstar would be able to suit up against Dallas after being tagged as day-to-day with her latest injury, but as it turns out, Clark just wasn't healthy enough to take the floor against the Wings. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, however, still joined her team in their road game in Dallas. In fact, she took on a new role on the bench to show her support for her teammates despite being out of commission. A new video shows Clark handing out towels to her Fever teammates during a dead-ball situation. Clark made sure that everyone in the huddle got a towel to wipe off their sweat. She then proceeded to stand beside her teammates as head coach Stephanie White barked out instructions. Advertisement The Fever turned in a noteworthy team performance on Friday to defeat the Wings, who suffered their 13th loss of the season. Indiana, however, will need Clark back for their next game as they take on Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx in the Commissioner's Cup championship game on Tuesday. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) missed her consecutive game for groin Peltier-Imagn Images Clark continues to be day-to-day, though, and while there is optimism that she will be ready for the Lynx game, there's just no guarantee at this point. Indiana Fever Rally Behind Kelsey Mitchell Ahead of Major Event

Indiana Fever Rally Behind Kelsey Mitchell Ahead of Major Event originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark has been the driving force for the Indiana Fever this season. The way the team struggles mightily without her is a clear testament to this fact. Advertisement Clark missed five games in May due to a quad injury, and she is now nursing a groin issue that has cost her two contests thus far. The Fever have gone 4-3 in these seven games, which, all things considered, is a pretty respectable record without their best player on the floor. The Fever secured a 94-86 win on Friday against the Dallas Wings despite Clark's absence, and this was thanks in large part to Kelsey Mitchell. The 5-foot-8 guard went off for a season-high 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting, to go along with three rebounds, seven assists and four triples in the victory. Mitchell has been integral to Indiana's success this season, and she's stepped up in a major way with Clark out of commission. This is exactly why she is now well on her way to her third straight All-Star appearance. Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell strikes a pose. © Grace Smith/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Fever took to social media on Saturday to remind supporters that today is their last chance to vote for Mitchell for the All-Star Game in Indianapolis on July 19. Advertisement "Kelsey Mitchell is ready to bring the action to All-Star 💥 voting ends today, let's send Kelz to #WNBAAllStar2025 🗳️" the Fever posted on X. The WNBA released the first returns of fan voting last week, and Mitchell was ranked seventh with 277,664 votes. If the votes keep coming in at this pace, Mitchell will be an All-Star starter, alongside Fever teammates Aliyah Boston and Lexie Hull. Clark, on the other hand, was the top vote-getter in the first returns with 515,993, and it appears that she will be one of two All-Star captains who will get to pick her team. Clark could potentially select all three of her Fever teammates as starters for her All-Star squad.
