The Rishikesh-Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi has been entirely washed away near Silai Band and Aujhari, bringing all vehicular movement to a halt. The Kalsi-Chakrata State Highway in Dehradun district is also closed due to a massive debris slide. However, several key routes remain open, including the Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway and the Rishikesh-Badrinath and Joshimath-Malari-Niti National Highways.
The scale of disruption is significant, with a staggering number of roads closed across various districts due to debris. These include 15 roads in Uttarkashi, 11 in Tehri, nine in Rudraprayag, five in Pithoragarh, 48 in Pauri, two in Nainital, nine in Dehradun, 15 in Champawat, 21 in Chamoli, 16 in Bageshwar, and two in Almora district.

7 killed as vehicle falls into gorge in Doda
JAMMU: Seven people, including a woman, died and 17 others were injured, four critically, when an overloaded passenger vehicle skidded off the road on Tuesday and plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district. The Tempo Traveller was on its way to Doda from Aul area when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a blind curve and fell near Ponda village. Police and residents rushed the victims to Govt Medical College and Hospital in Doda. 'Five were brought dead. The injured are being treated in the emergency unit,' officials said. As an immediate relief, deputy commissioner Harvinder Singh said he has released Rs 25,000 each to the next of kin of the deceased. Senior SP Sandeep Mehta said a case of rash and negligent driving besides overloading has been filed. Further probe is on, he said. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha condoled the deaths and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured. Union minister Jitendra Singh wrote on X, 'All possible help and medical aid is being provided.' Congress's Ghulam Mohammad Saroori expressed grief and urged the govt to provide Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to familied of the deceased.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 7 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday flagged off 20 new air-conditioned UTC Mini (Tempo Traveller) being operated by Uttarakhand Transport Corporation at a function organised by the Chief Minister's Camp Office. He said, 'This will prove to be a very important step towards strengthening the state's transport system. With this initiative, not only will our tourists be able to enjoy the seamless facility while travelling, but this will also infuse new energy into the economic and tourism activities here... Due to Char Dham yatra, or any other occasion, Dehradun witnesses a large number of footfall...' Out of these, 10 Tempo Traveller vehicles will run on the Dehradun-Mussoorie route and 10 Tempo Traveller vehicles on the Haldwani-Nainital route. This will also reduce the problem of jams between Nainital-Haldwani and Dehradun-Mussoorie. The Chief Minister said that if this initiative is successful, the number of such services will be increased further. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also travelled from the camp office to the GTC helipad by Tempo Traveller. 'Based on its results, we will carry this initiative further and will also increase the number of mini travellers... This traveller is very convenient, and everyone will be able to enjoy the trip at an affordable price. For better transportation, we are soon going to purchase 100 more buses', he added. The Chief Minister said that the air-conditioned Tempo Traveller will prove to be important in strengthening the transport system of the state. These will provide safe, smooth and economical travel to the passengers and will also promote the economic and tourism activities of the state.
