Jon Rahm details Caleb Surratt's first LIV Golf podium finish

USA Today5 days ago
LIV Golf UK 2025 concluded Sunday at JCB Golf and Country Club in Rocester, England. Former Vol Caleb Surratt was part of the field and recorded his first career top 10 finish.
He finished in third place (-13), four strokes behind winner Joaquin Niemann (-17). Bubba Watson finished in second place (-14).
Surratt is also part of Legion XIII. He is teammates with Jon Rahm (captain), Tyrrell Hatton and Tom McKibbin. Legion XIII won the LIV Golf UK 2025 team competition (-35) after trailing Torque GC by three stokes entering Sunday's final round. Torque GC (-27) finished in second place and eight strokes behind Legion XIII.
Surratt appeared in 15 tournaments at Tennessee from 2022-23. He earned 2023 SEC Freshman of the Year honors and was the 2023 SEC individual champion. The former Vol is in his second season as a professional in LIV Golf.

Rahm discussed Surratt's performance at LIV Golf UK and why he picked him from the Vols for Legion XIII.
'I said last week, I was looking forward to Caleb hopefully having a good tournament and not needing to birdie something like the last four holes for us to win, so it's great to look at the scoreboard and see just that,' Rahm said of Surratt on LIV Golf's broadcast on FS1. 'He is a phenomenal talent, phenomenal player. It's the first podium in his career and first top 10, he should be proud of that.
'He's phenomenal player. I think my goal was always to try to keep the core of the team young. We did just that, even with Kieran (Vincent) last year. Tyrrell and myself, being the older guys last year, 33 and 29, it's not like the craziest thing in the world, right, so I think that was a big part of why the team has done well. Yeah, he might have some inexperience, but he's got the world ahead of him and his whole career ahead of him, so you expect it from someone like him to have a couple of rough weeks, but he's playing really good golf and hopefully this is the confidence booster he needs to take it to another level.'

Georgia's biggest playoff question in 2025 isn't Gunner Stockton

Everyone's focused on Georgia's new quarterback. But if the Bulldogs fall short of another College Football Playoff run, it won't be because of Gunner Stockton. It might be the guys catching the ball. Georgia enters the 2025 season with one of the strongest rosters in the country and the second-highest national championship odds behind Ohio State. ESPN Analytics gives the Bulldogs a 78.6 percent chance to reach the playoff and a 17.9 percent shot to win it all. But last season, Georgia led the entire Power Four in dropped passes. That stat crushed drives, stalled momentum and showed up in the worst moments. If that trend doesn't flip quickly, it won't matter who is under center. This team will need cleaner execution to survive the SEC. Georgia's toughest test is already circled Nov. 15 against Texas is the only game where Georgia is not favored, according to ESPN's Football Power Index. The Longhorns visit Athens late in the season in a potential top-five matchup, and it could decide which team claims one of the top two playoff seeds. If Georgia wins, it could still make the playoff even with an SEC title game loss. But a loss to Texas may mean Georgia has to win out to have any chance at a bid. Why Georgia still controls its path The Bulldogs have a huge opportunity early. A 4–0 start with wins over Tennessee and Alabama would put them in the driver's seat nationally. If both teams finish inside the CFP Top 25, those wins would be remembered by the committee through Selection Day. That means Georgia could still make the playoff even if it finishes without a conference championship. Where things could fall apart The schedule looks manageable on paper, but it has landmines. Georgia plays true road games at Tennessee, Auburn and Mississippi State. None of those are guaranteed wins. The neutral-site game against Florida is another key spot for Georgia to prove it can win away from Athens. And with three of the Bulldogs' home games coming against Marshall, FCS opponent Austin Peay and Charlotte, there won't be much room to slip up. Georgia doesn't need to be perfect. But if the receivers don't clean up last year's mistakes and the run game can't support Stockton, then perfect might be the only way in. This team still has the talent to win the SEC and return to the playoff, but the margin is thinner than it looks.

Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M DB Marcus Ratcliffe with his player profile

As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player's background, recruiting rankings out of high school, and projected role under head coach Mike Elko. Marcus Ratcliffe was one of the key transfers who helped Coach Elko transition back into Aggieland. After starting 11 of 12 games as a true freshman and earning the team's Most Outstanding Defensive Freshman award, Ratcliffe made the jump to the SEC, where he played in all 13 games and started 12. He finished in the top 10 in the SEC with three interceptions and ranked third on the team with 48 tackles. His impact was immediate, and with another year in the system, plus added speed on defense, his presence should pay dividends. Ratcliffe was recognized again at season's end when the first-year safety received the Defensive Newcomer of the Year award at the team's annual banquet. Preseason Player Profile Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2023) The former three-star prospect was a standout defensive back, earning first-team all-league honors three times and helping lead his team to the 2021 state championship. He originally signed with San Diego State. Depth Chart Outlook The safety position is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing battles heading into 2025. Much will depend on the personnel the defensive staff chooses to roll with. Expect some combination of Dalton Brooks, Bryce Anderson, and Ratcliffe, though we shouldn't count out Myles Davis either. Given last season's inconsistency at the position, this decision will likely come down to who earns the most trust during game-week preparation. Here's what NFL Network could look like at ESPN after bombshell media deal

As early as next season, NFL Network will have a new look. The network is being acquired by ESPN as part of a blockbuster billion-dollar deal that includes many of the NFL's top media assets, The Athletic's Andrew Marchand reported Friday. The report noted that within the ESPN family of programming, NFL Network could wind up looking akin to SEC Network, which provides constant programming about the league while ESPN's flagship channel also broadcasts SEC games and SEC-related shows. Getty Images A similar setup, with on-air talent being used across NFL Network and ESPN other networks, is a 'very possible' outcome, according to The Athletic's report. The report also noted that ESPN is 'expected to invest in improving NFL Network programming.' The NFL hoped NFL Network could be a competitor to ESPN when the network was created in 2003, featuring shows like 'Good Morning Football,' 'NFL GameDay Kickoff' and 'The Insiders,' but that never materialized. The network had suffered from a series of cutbacks over the years, according to the report. ESPN is acquiring many of the NFL's media assets in a blockbuster deal. Icon Sportswire via Getty Images The seismic deal also shifts the rights of NFL RedZone, produced at the NFL Network Studios in Inglewood, Calif., to ESPN. It's unclear how exactly RedZone will be packaged and priced, but it is likely to be included as part of ESPN's existing channels and on the Worldwide Leader's to-be-released app. In addition to RedZone and NFL Network, ESPN is expected to gain access to seven more regular-season games, the NFL's fantasy football business and the potential to integrate other special features, including betting. The deal comes as ESPN is preparing to launch a new direct-to-consumer service, which will enable subscribers to watch all of the network's programming for $29.99 per month, even without having ESPN through cable or satellite.
