Billie Eilish Returns To No. 1 After A Competitor Forced Her From The Summit

Forbes04-05-2025
Despite not currently promoting new material with any real might, Billie Eilish is back at No. 1 on multiple Billboard charts this week. She dominates the rankings with both a full-length and one of the biggest songs of her career — and that's saying a lot for someone as successful as she is.
'Birds of a Feather' holds strong at the top of several genre-specific lists, while the full-length on which the track appears, Hit Me Hard and Soft, returns to the summit on multiple rankings, underlining yet again its status as one of the most popular alternative and rock releases in recent memory.
Last week, the collection slipped to No. 2 on both the Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts, but it didn't stay there for long. Eilish's bestselling set is now back at No. 1 on both lists.
These two Billboard rankings highlight the most-consumed projects in their respective genres, combining sales and streaming data to determine which rock and alternative titles are resonating in the U.S.
Hit Me Hard and Soft has now spent the most time at No. 1 on the Top Alternative Albums chart, which makes sense given that the roster is slightly less competitive than its companion tally. Out of the 49 frames the project has appeared on the roster, it has ruled for 43.
The same Grammy-nominated effort has also racked up 39 weeks atop the Top Rock & Alternative Albums ranking, out of the same number of appearances on the 50-position tally.
Meanwhile, last week's champion, Sable, Fable by Bon Iver, experiences a steep decline on the two tallies. Though it launched at No. 1 on the two genre-specific charts, it hasn't been able to maintain its momentum. In its second frame on the rosters, the effort plummets to No. 19 on the Top Alternative Albums list and No. 32 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums ranking.
As it rebounds to No. 1 on the aforementioned charts, Hit Me Hard and Soft also climbs on three additional tallies. It reenters the top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart, soaring from No. 38 to No. 10 with 4,400 copies sold, according to Luminate.
The project also nears that uppermost tier on both the Top Streaming Albums chart and Billboard 200, pushing to Nos. 12 and 14, respectively.
Eilish even manages to reappear on yet another list, as Hit Me Hard and Soft makes a home on half a dozen tallies this frame. The set is back on the Vinyl Albums chart once more. The former champion reenters the wax-only space at No. 10. While it has spent 49 weeks on each of the other charts it currently finds space on, it has missed just one frame on the Vinyl Albums list.

Here Are (Some Of) The Best Artist Shirts Available Now

2025 has been a good year for music – not just for the various standout releases we've been blessed with like Little Simz'sLotus, Kevin Absract'sBlushand Jim Legxacy's recentblack british music, but for the conversations sparked at cultural intersections from Kendrick'shalftime showto Beyonce's best album double at theGrammys, too. We've seen Clipse get back to together anddebuta song at Louis Vuitton's Paris Fashion Week show, instant-classic Tiny Desk Concerts from the likes ofDoechiiandBad Bunny, andVybz Kartelis back like he never left. As artists continue to adapt to an ever-evolving industry while navigating the rise of AI, unfavorable streaming contracts and other challenges, tried-and-true revenue streams are making a comeback – namely, tours and merch. In an increasingly digital era, artists and fans alike want a better connection to each other and tangible experiences and merchandise carry more weight than ever. FromBritney x BalenciagaandIce Spice x Mercedes-Benz, to label-made official merch from the likes of UMG'sBravado, it's a good time to be a fan. Because let's be honest, anyone can hit 'Follow' – but are you even a fan if you don't have the t-shirt?! We've rounded up some of favorite pieces of band merch – check them out below in alphabetical order now. Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph's – aka21 Savage– Wikipedia page describes him as a 'British rapper based in the United States.' But while the rapper might have been born in London, he was most definitely ATL-raised – and just in case you needed a reminder, the merch for hisAmerican Dream Tourincludes a t-shirt emblazoned with the Stars and Stripes behind a portrait of the artist staring you Aminé's13 Months of Sunshineliterally sounded like summertime – and it's that same sentiment that guides the album's solo graphic offering. 'Spring, Aminé, Fall, Winter' lands in black, all-caps lettering on a white tee and white tank-top, with a special edition landing for the rapper's one-night-only Brooklyn performance earlier this summer; that one includes an additional graphic on the backside to commemorate the Bad Bunnyis on a roll. His 30-night Puerto Rico residency is projected togenerate over $200 million USDin economic impact – and the accompanying merch is pretty cool The best part aboutBillie Eilish'smerch is that each piece looks like something the singer would actually wear. Eilish loves an oversized jersey, so the leadHit Me Hard And Softdelivery – a silver-hued football jersey – is perfect. Design wise, Eilish's face fronts the jersey, with additional patch-like graphics on the arms and her signatureblohshicon on the back. Another notable piece from the album's merch drop is the layered tour tee, complete with a camouflage long-sleeve underneath a black graphic tee with the tour's dates listed on the backside. (By the way, while we're talking Billie, checkthisout.)Shophere. Blink 182have been rocking since 1992, but found mainstream success in the early 2000s with their catchy pop-punk sound, irreverent humor, and era-defining anthems like 'All the Small Things' and 'What's My Age Again?'. Even if you aren't the biggest Blink fan, there's a good chance you know a word or two from one of their songs – like the eternally relatable line 'work sucks, I know' from their1999 hit single ATSM(sorry, boss… if you're reading this). Well, now you can get it on a t-shirt! And if you consider yourself an OG fan of the band, they've released a tee with the album art from 1995'sCheshire Cat(arguably one of their best).Shophere. Salmon was the color of choice forBon Iver'sSABLE, fABLE, engulfing the album cover and appearing in all of the project's promotional material, static visuals, and external collaborations. Since an all-salmon shirt might be a bit much for some, Justin Vernon made the color a bit more subtle in the album's lead merch, focusing instead on the best part of the album: his lyricism. There is a salmon-colored outline of Vernon in the middle of the long-sleeve T-shirt, but the highlight of the design is the lyrics 'There's a Rythmn' scribbled on the arms and down the Oops… he did it again. With his final collection for Balenciaga,Denma Gvasaliachanneled his inner '90s with this oversized Britney t-shirt. Is there anything more 2025 than aBritney Spears and Balenciagacollab?Shophere. This wasn't something we saw coming, but we're here for it. Thethree-way collabbetween hip-hop OGs Parappa the Rapper and De La Soul, together with Japanese brand WIND AND SEA, has resulted in some of the most wearable band merch we've seen. The collection is quite large – with everything from jackets to pants – but a stand-out for is this long-sleece Death Row Recordsneeds no introduction. Suge Knight's former label – nowownedby Snoop – is behind some of the most iconic rap records of the 1990s, including several of Tupac's. Perfect for fans of the label – past or While unfortunately sold out at the moment onDoechii'sofficial site, we had to include theAlligator Bites Never Healrugby tee, which features an album crest on the chest and an alligator graphic on the back. As one of the fan favorite cuts on the project, 'Denial Is A River' gets its own garment. On the front is a grid of the end clip of the music video with the production information listed underneath; the back aptly reads 'CAMERA CREW' in all It's been four years sinceDMXdied, but the New Yorker impact on East Coast hip-hop will be felt forever. Show your appreciation for the roughest Ryder with this In another unexpected partnership, Ice Spice and Mercedes-Benzlinked upas part of the German car giant's 'Class of Creators' program. From an iced-out CLA to a selection of tees and jerseys, these three pieces stood out for Jamiroquai'scelebrating the 20th anniversary of his iconic albumDynamitethis year. The car-obsessed Londoner is keeping it simple with the merch, though: together the Jamiroquai logo, his unmistakable 'Buffalo Man' character graces an all-black t-shirt and a zip-up The Buick GNX has been a key motif throughoutKendrick Lamar'sGNXalbum as well as its accompanying Grand National Tour with SZA. This theme is instilled more literally in the tour's graphic tees, one of which takes a retro feel with a graffiti-esque GNX graphic and 'Gloria' on top. Elsewhere, a mechanic's work shirt is emulated with 'Gloria Auto Repair and Auto Body Inc.' on one side of the chest and a vintage patch on the other. Additional retro lettering lands on the back of the pastel blue silhouette, Kevin Abstract'ssharp creative direction extends all the way to his graphic tees – and while we don't yet have merch forBlush, we do have quite the selection fromBlanketas well as a standout cobalt blueARIZONA BABYtee. Some ofBlanket's graphics take cues from the tracklist, while others feature the Texas flag (in homage to Abstract's Houston hometown.)Shophere. Kid Cudi'sINSANOvisuals all reveled in vibrant hues, and the accompanying merch followed suit. No stranger to design and creative direction, it's clear Cudi's merch comes from no amateur, with theINSANOgo-around carried by a pair of bright blue and pink crewnecks, imbued with a colorful face graphic in the middle atopINSANOin lime green and lyrics printed along the sleeves and Lil Wayne'ssixthThe Carteralbum dropped in June, along with a world-exclusive merchpop-up in London. Their 'Hot Lips' logo, created by English art designer John Pasche in 1971, is about as iconic as it gets for band logos – and it has found its way onto these t-shirts from the band's collaboration with Slipknot'smerch is unrivalled. The band has been celebrating the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut studio album for the past year, with its cover art and song lyrics song inspiring theirrecent collabwith PLEASURES. Released in February 1995, it is a heartfelt tribute to his mother, Afeni Shakur, a former Black Panther who raised him as a single parent struggling with poverty and her own personal demons – namely, an addition to crack cocaine. In 2010, the Library of Congress selectedDear Mamafor preservation in the National Recording Registry, making one of his then already most iconic and emotionally resonant tracks a permanent part of U.S. history. In the song, Tupac raps honestly about his mother's problems with drugs – 'And even as a crack fiend, Mama, You always was a black queen, Mama, I finally understand, For a woman it ain't easy tryin' to raise a man' – lyrics that have become cultural touchstones. Queer Jams of the Week: New Music From Chappell Roan, Reneé Rapp, Demi Lovato & More

In need of some new tunes from your favorite queer artists? We've got you covered. Billboard Pride is proud to present the latest edition of Queer Jams of the Week, our roundup of some of the best new music releases from LGBTQ+ artists. From Chappell Roan's long-awaited new(ish) ballad to Reneé Rapp's rowdy new album, check out just a few of our favorite releases from this week below: More from Billboard Best Festival Gear: What to Buy for Lollapalooza & Other Concerts This Summer WWE SummerSlam 2025: How to Watch the Two-Night Pro Wrestling Event Live Online Wrangler Goes All-Terrain With Latest Apparel Collection Backed by Country Star Tucker Wetmore Chappell Roan, 'The Subway' After more than a year of patience from fans, Chappell Roan is finally ready to offer them a ride on 'The Subway.' The plaintive ballad paints a vivid picture of Roan mid-heartbreak, as she recounts the mundane tale of seeing an ex on the train and going into a full-blown spiral of Big Feelings™. It's easy to see why fans have wanted a full studio version of the song — the dreamy guitars end up pairing perfectly with Roan's ethereal vocal, as she pines for the day her former flame becomes 'just another girl on the subway.' Reneé Rapp, Bite Me Reneé Rapp is ready for a switch-up. Where her excellent 2023 album Snow Angel saw the singer getting vulnerable about the hard realities surrounding her, Bite Me, her raucous new album, sees her disengaging from the hardships and opting to have fun instead. Over pop, rock, and R&B-tinged tracks, Rapp revels in sex ('Kiss It, Kiss It'), parties ('Good Girl'), and petty breakups ('That's So Funny'), all while giving some of her best vocal performances to date. The pathos and angst from Snow Angel is still present throughout, but as Rapp herself sings in the back half of the album: 'If I can't be happy, then at least I'm hot.' Demi Lovato, 'Fast' Everyone, please welcome back Demi Lovato, Pop Star. After zigging and zagging into adult contemporary and hard rock on her last few albums, the singer steps firmly back into the pop space with 'Fast,' their new dance-fueled banger. Plinking synths litter the background of the new track, alongside a beat that slowly ratchets up until bursting into an electric symphony on the chorus. But as usual, the standout on 'Fast' is Lovato's inimitable voice, as she flexes the power and versatility of her own instrument throughout this delirious new single. Slayyyter, 'Beat Up Chanel$' If Lovato's new song hasn't quite slaked your need for a high-octane new club track, then Slayyyter's should get the job done. Over a crunchy industrial beat, Slayyyter works her way through a nightlife scene packed with 'sex, money, drugs, chains on my chest, vintage Celine' and just about everything else you can hope to encounter. But she's not interested in the opulence of the scene, as suggested in both the lyrics and grimy production — Slayyyter's on a mission to find the filthy underbelly of the club. And with a track like 'Beat Up Chanel$,' she's sure to find it. Debby Friday, The Starrr of the Queen of Life After spending much of her career sowing chaos into dance tracks, Debby Friday is having an introspective moment. The Starrr of the Queen of Life finds the underground dance star still firmly situated in the club, but this time she's ready to tackle some more existential questions about her personal life ('Alberta') and about life itself ('Arcadia'), all while still providing some of her most fascinating production to date. Adam Lambert, 'Heaven on Their Minds' (Jesus Christ Superstar cover) Leave it to Adam Lambert to make a 55-year-old rock opera song sound new and vital again. Ahead of his performance this weekend in the Hollywood Bowl production of Jesus Christ Superstar alongside Cynthia Erivo, Lambert shared his rendition of the show's opening number 'Heaven on Their Minds,' letting his stratospheric voice go as far as it can. You can also hear his acting in the role of Judas throughout, as the performer brings a sense of desperation and panic to this rollicking new rendition. Zach Bryan's New Single Launches Inside The Top 10 On Multiple Charts

Zach Bryan has released more than half a dozen singles in 2025 alone, and it's not yet clear how many of them will be included on his upcoming project. What is apparent is that his latest single, "Madeline,' a duet with relatively unknown musician Gabriella Rose, is another quick smash for the singer-songwriter, one that returns him to the highest tiers on several Billboard rankings. 'Madeline' Opens Inside the Top 10 "Madeline" launches on more than half a dozen tallies in the United States this week. The tune opens inside the top 10 on three of them, thanks primarily to its quick popularity on streaming platforms. Bryan's duet with Rose opens highest, at No. 8, on the Hot Rock Songs chart. It comes in just one spot beneath that slot on the Rock Streaming Songs list, and at No. 10 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally. A Milestone New Smash Bryan earns his milestone thirtieth top 10 hit on the Hot Rock Songs chart as "Madeline" debuts. He only needs one more win within the same region on the Rock Streaming Songs list to reach the same landmark there as well. Meanwhile, the newly-shared collaboration marks his twenty-sixth top 10 smash on Billboard's ranking of the most consumed rock and alternative tracks in the nation. Zach Bryan's Many, Many Rock Hits When looking at his total number of placements on these three lists, there's a greater variation when compared to his top 10 successes. Bryan has now scored 47 hits on the Rock Streaming Songs ranking, while he's up to 80 on the Hot Rock Songs list, and two more on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally. Zach Bryan Almost Reaches the Country Top 10 "Madeline" comes close to the top 10 on a trio of country rankings, but doesn't perform quite as well as it does on the rock-leaning charts. The track misses the highest tier on the Hot Country Songs, Country Streaming Songs, and Country Digital Song Sales lists by just a few spaces. The tune also opens at No. 62 on the Hot 100, where Bryan is quickly approaching 50 placements. With Heaven on Top It appears that "Madeline" will be included on With Heaven on Top, Bryan's forthcoming project. Originally marketed as an EP, it now appears the singer-songwriter and Grammy winner may turn it into a full-length effort. At the moment, With Heaven on Top is scheduled to be released on January 9, 2026.
