Team India resumes training

Some foot-tapping music at the gym, some banter and a lot of laughter - there were plenty of sunshine moments during India's training session on a rather cloudy and gloomy Thursday at the Beckenham County ground. Resuming training after a two-day break, following the heart-breaking defeat at Lord's, the Indian team looked rejuvenated and relaxed as they geared up for next week's fourth Test at Old Trafford. While K.L. Rahul skipped the session, all three fast bowlers who played for India in the last game - Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj - did not bowl while doing their basic fitness routines. In fact, Siraj batted for a while, as India's bowling coach Morne Morkel was seen bowling a long spell in the nets. 'Seven overs and five wickets!' Morkel later said in a jest as he walked towards the dressing room. While Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair and Yashasvi Jaiswal had long sessions in the nets, Rishabh Pant played a bit of tennis and took some throw-downs, but did not bat, nor did he keep wickets. Having been in England for more than three weeks now, the team management ensured that the players remained refreshed. 'It hasn't felt like a long tour, it's been exciting from day one, like you get up every morning and you can't wait for what the next day brings,' Ryan ten Doeschate, the assistant coach, said. 'Obviously, these guys are working so hard, especially the guys who are new to the squad, so it's been a very refreshing tour in that sense,' he added. While Bumrah was seen discussing a thing or two with Arshdeep Singh, who injured his hand, and Akash, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak and ten Doeschate had individual sessions with the batters in a bit to keep them ready for the long grind.

India's assistant coach all but confirms Jasprit Bumrah will play 4th Test against England in Manchester

India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, on Thursday, all but ended the speculations around whether Jasprit Bumrah will play the fourth Test match of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England. India are currently 1-2 down in the series, having lost the opener in Leeds last month and the third match at Lord's last Monday. Their only win came in Birmingham earlier this month. Rishabh Pant and teammate Jasprit Bumrah at The County Ground for a training session ahead of the fourth Test cricket match between India and England, in Beckenham(PTI) Before the Test series began, the BCCI had confirmed that Bumrah would feature in only three matches to manage his workload. Head coach Gautam Gambhir backed the plan, choosing to rest the pace spearhead for the second Test in Birmingham, despite growing calls to retain him after his sensational performance in the series opener at Leeds. In Bumrah's absence, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep rose to the occasion, each claiming a five-wicket haul as India clinched a dominant 336-run win to level the series. However, following India's 22-run defeat at Lord's in the third Test, experts once again called for Bumrah's inclusion in the do-or-die Test match at the Old Trafford, which will begin next week, and the team management paid heed to the request this time. Speaking to the media on Thursday after India's first training session for the fourth Test, Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed Bumrah's inclusion. "We'll make that call in Manchester. We know we've got him for one of the last two Tests. I think it's pretty obvious the series is on the line now in Manchester, so there will be a leaning towards playing him," he said. If India stay true to their word, this will be Bumrah's first appearance at the Old Trafford. India have yet to win a Test match in Manchester. In nine attempts at the venue thus far in history, they lost on four occasions to England, while five others ended in a draw. The last time India were due to play in Manchester, the match was cancelled after a Covid outbreak in their camp during the tour in 2021.

"Would Drop Nitish Reddy And...": Ex-India Star Suggests Big Changes For 4th Test vs England

India faced a shocking 22-run defeat against England in the third Test at Lord's, London. With the win, England took 2-1 lead in the five-match series. India were chasing a target of 193 when they lost back-to-back wickets and the onus fell on the shoulders of Ravindra Jadeja. The all-rounder was joined by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the battle but India got bundled out for 170. As Shubman Gill and co gear up for the fourth Test, former batter Dilip Vengsarkar suggested two big changes in the team. Speaking to Revsportz, Vengsarkar stated that he would drop all-rounders Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar to bring in the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav. "I would drop Nitish Reddy and perhaps one more player to make room for Arshdeep. I think Siraj and Bumrah should keep their places, but Reddy could make way. Kuldeep Yadav could also replace someone like Washington Sundar. You need five bowlers in a Test match to win it. If your six batters can't put up a good total, the bowlers need to take responsibility. You can't win a Test match with part-time bowlers," Vengsarkar said in an interview with RevSportz. "I would pick Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav. Arshdeep is a good left-arm bowler who can move the ball in the air and off the wicket, which is crucial in English conditions. He can also reverse swing the ball, which is important. I have seen him bowl," he added. Pacer Arshdeep Singh is yet to make his debut for India in the longest format. As Jasprit Bumrah can miss the fourth Test due to his workload mangament, there are chances that Arshdeep can get his maiden Test cap. On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav is also yet to feature in the Playing XI in the ongoing series. There were talks of getting included in the second Test but the team chose Washington Sundar instead of him. The fourth Test between India and England will kick-start from July 23 in Manchester.
