WR Kaydon Finley chooses Notre Dame over father's alma mater Texas

Notre Dame will open Finley's freshman season at Lambeau Field, where his dad starred in his professional career, against Wisconsin.
Finley's commitment is Notre Dame's 23rd this cycle, with the Irish haul ranked in the top five on all four major services. Finley is the second receiver in the class and could be the first of three to fall to Notre Dame this weekend. The Irish are expected to land Devin Fitzgerald on Saturday, and Brayden Robinson is scheduled to commit on Sunday. Fitzgerald is the son of legendary former NFL wideout Larry Fitzgerald, an 11-time Pro Bowler who spent his entire 17-year career with the Arizona Cardinals.
A weekend sweep would give Notre Dame four wideouts in the class — Bubba Frazier of Savannah, Ga., committed in April — as assistant Mike Brown continues the long rebuild of a position group that's struggled to keep up with other College Football Playoff contenders.
In their past 10 recruiting classes, the Irish have signed 30 receivers and have produced more draft picks at defensive back (two) from that group than actual wideouts (one). Chase Claypool is the last receiver signed by Notre Dame who developed into an NFL draft pick, 10 recruiting cycles ago. The Irish turned Cam Hart (cornerback) and Xavier Watts (safety) into draft picks after position switches.
During that barren run, Notre Dame has signed just three Top 100 overall prospects at receiver. Sophomore Cam Williams is expected to be a reserve this season. Jordan Johnson transferred to Central Florida after his freshman year and didn't play at future stops. Kevin Austin's career was stunted by injury before becoming an undrafted free agent.
Finley will hope to buck that trend, with the Irish projecting he turns out more like junior Jaden Greathouse, another four-star prospect signed out of Texas. Greathouse led the Irish with 592 receiving yards last season on 43 catches with four touchdowns. The Irish haven't had a wide receiver lead the team in receptions, since Claypool's senior year, six seasons ago. Claypool was also Notre Dame's last 1,000-yard receiver.

Considering his NFL heritage and prep production — Finley posted 81 catches for 1,432 yards and 21 touchdowns at Aledo last season — he's a good bet to reverse some of those trends. In addition to Notre Dame and Texas, Finley also listed offers from Texas A&M, Georgia, Miami, Oregon and Penn State.
The 6-foot, 200-pound athlete is a unanimous four-star prospect across the four services, ranging from No. 93 overall on Rivals to No. 216 overall on 247 Sports. He's also the 13th Top 200 overall prospect to commit to Notre Dame, per the 247 Sports Composite. The Irish have never signed more than a dozen Top 200 overall prospects, per the 247 Sports Composite, in a single class during the Rivals/247 era. Notre Dame signed 12 Top 200 prospects in the 2013 and 2006 classes, both regarded as the high-water marks for Brian Kelly and Charlie Weis.
With two more receivers likely to commit this weekend, and three-star safety Nick Reddish and four-star defensive lineman Elijah Golden scheduled to make announcements later this month, this haul built by Marcus Freeman could be the best since Lou Holtz.

Rose, who goes by the stage name Amy Luciani, filed for divorce on July 1 in Georgia, claiming that the marriage was "irretrievably broken," TMZ Sports reported, citing court documents. The documents also state that Rose is requesting alimony, asking that the marital assets and property be "equally divided." Rose has also removed any pictures of Howard from her social media accounts. Their relationship was made public in December, as they revealed being engaged to each other on Instagram. Rose also released a children's book with Howard as her last name. Rose's reality fame comes from her time on Seasons 11 and 12 of "Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta." She also released an album entitled "Amy's World" in 2023. Meanwhile, Howard spent 18 seasons in the NBA, ultimately putting together a career worthy of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He was an eight-time All-Star, three-time Defensive Player of the Year, and won an NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2020-21 season. Howard's stardom began with the Orlando Magic, who drafted him first overall out of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2004. Brother of former MLB pitcher Tyler Walker missing along with other family members following Texas floods
Several family members of former MLB relief pitcher Tyler Walker remain missing on Tuesday as the death toll surpassed 100 following the devastating flooding that took place in central Texas over the Fourth of July weekend. Mark Walker, 51, his wife Sara, 50, and their 14-year-old son, Johnny, have been reported missing after vacationing at a river house in Hunt, Texas, along the Guadalupe River, which was devastated by the Kerr County flood on Friday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, citing family. Mark is the older brother of former San Francisco Giants reliever Tyler Walker. "I'm sick to my stomach," Kathy Walker, the mother of Mark and Tyler, told the outlet. "It's a terrible feeling, because you're helpless here." Kathy told the San Francisco Chronicle that she last spoke to Mark on Thursday. The couple's 16-year-old daughter, Ellie, was attending camp at Camp Waldemar and has since been found safe. According to the report, Tyler and his wife traveled to Texas to be with their niece. Tyler Walker played eight seasons in the major leagues, spending the majority of that time with the Giants. He compiled a 23-18 record, 4.23 ERA, 34 saves and 243 strikeouts. As the search for the Walker family continues, officials in Texas confirmed on Monday that the death toll reached 109. Deaths have been reported in six Texas counties — Kerr, Burnet, Travis, Kendall, Williamson and Tom Green — FOX Weather reported. Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said Tuesday, "As of 8 a.m. central time, 87 deceased have been recovered in Kerr County, including 56 adults and 30 children." He added that identification is still pending for 19 adults and seven children. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Trade Proposal: Byron Buxton To Phillies For Andrew Painter And Justin Crawford
It's that time of year when trade winds (and rumors galore) whip through the MLB with gale-force power, and a big one whipping around the Philadelphia Phillies is a potential deal for Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton. ESPN writer David Schoenfield tossed up the Buxton-to-Philly brainstorm, but to what cost to the Phils? How about losing two big-time prospects, Andrew Painter and Justin Crawford? Take a Zen breath, Phillies fans, the deal hasn't happened yet. The Phillies have been linked to the Twins' Byron Buxton. (Photo by) Indeed, it sounds insane to trade the gem of the farm system (Painter) and a potential everyday center fielder (Crawford) for the frequently injured 31-year-old Buxton. However, Buxton wields the impact bat Philly's wishy-washy lineup needs. He's belted 20 home runs with a .879 OPS in 73 games this year while being on pace for a career high in WAR. The former Gold Glover winner plays a sparkling center field, doing stuff like this: And maybe the biggest plus for Buxton is that he's (miraculously) stayed healthy this season, leading to him being named to the AL All-Star team for the second time in his career. Buxton would be a tremendous upgrade over Philly's mediocre centerfield tandem of Brandon Marsh and Johan Rojas. As Schoenfield noted, 'Centerfield has been a soft spot in recent seasons, with the Phillies in the bottom third in the majors in OPS this year, and the team's overall power output has been below average, even with Kyle Schwarber. Adding Buxton adds more pop to the middle of the order." There's also this: Getting Buxton would likely cause a domino-effect trade in which the Phils would deal Marsh or left fielder Max Kepler. But that's for Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski to decide. Schoenfield says Dombrowski knows 'how to go all-in,' and this may be the last chance to do so with the Phillies' aging core on a quest to get to one more World Series. Adding Buxton would improve those chances. Schoenfield admits that 'trading Painter would be painful' but the Phils' deep rotation would allow for such a bold move. Painter is currently at Triple-A, where he's been 'good but not great,' according to Dombrowski. But nobody denies the kid has ace-level stuff. Take a gander here: Unbelievably, the sticking point to the trade may not be the Philliess. Even though they are under .500, the Twins may not be quick to deal Buxton, whose team-friendly contract has him signed through 2028 and earning $15.1 million per season. But let's be honest: If Painter is on the table, it's an offer that would be tough to turn down. And if the Phils throw in Crawford, it would be a done deal.
