Investigation underway after 15-year-old boy died following shooting in Toronto's west end
A police investigation is underway after a 15-year-old boy died following a late-night shooting in Toronto's west end, say police.
Toronto police say they responded to reports that a male had been shot in the Mount Dennis neighbourhood, near Emmett Avenue and Jane Street, just after 10 p.m. on Saturday.
They say when officers arrived they found a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound.
The teen, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital by paramedics where he was pronounced deceased. He is Toronto's 14th homicide victim of the year.
The suspect, meanwhile, fled the area before police arrived there.
Police have not provided a descrition of the suspect at this point.

'This investigation is still in the very early stages,' Det. Phillip Campbell told reporters at a news conference Sunday afternoon.
'What I can tell you is that the victim is a male in his teens.'
Campbell said officers remain on scene canvassing for video, speaking with witnesses, and gathering evidence.
The crime scene spans several residential blocks and includes York Humber High School.
One person from the area told CTV News Toronto that they heard five gunshots.
Another man said the shooting happened right outside his home near Jane Street and Weston Road.
'I (saw) some people screaming and running away,' he said.
'It was heartbreaking to see, (in) this area, never seen this before. Young people shooting rounds is terrible. (I'm) sorry for their families.'
Local crime prevention advocate Sharon Joseph says more needs to be done to stop gun violence, especially involving young people.
'We need to have more mentorship for these young people. We know that there is a crisis but we only come when the crisis is happening, when it's active,' she said.
'After the crisis everybody (goes) back to normalcy, normal life.'
Police say they're 'dedicating all necessary resources' to apprehending those responsible
Investigators are assuring the public that they're 'dedicating all necessary resources to this investigation to find those responsible.'
'Members of the public who live in this neighbourhood can expect to see an increased police presence as we conduct our investigation,' Campbell said.
Toronto police are asking anyone with information including dashcam or home security footage from the area to contact the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Officers intercepted the packages on July 18, the CBSA said. The agency estimated that amount of methamphetamine would represent approximately 150,000 individual doses. 'This seizure is another great example of the dedication and expertise of CBSA officers as they continue to work hard each and every day to prevent dangerous drugs from crossing our borders,' said Nina Patel, CBSA director general for the Pacific Region, in a statement. A 25-year-old Chinese citizen was apprehended and has since been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Shiyu Deng is facing counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking, possession for the purpose of exporting, and exporting a controlled substance. The CBSA said Deng was transferred into RCMP custody, where he remains pending his next court appearance on Wednesday.

Barrie police busted a man for impaired charges, as well as possession of cocaine, meth and Oxycodone drugs. Sat., Aug 2, 2025. PHOTO: BARRIE POLICE SERVICE Barrie police laid a slew of criminal charges against a Scarborough man Saturday. An officer saw a driver pull out of a bar parking lot in a dangerous manner, so he stopped the car. Barrie police said the driver 'exhibited signs of impairment' and he blew a fail on a breathalyzer. The driver was taken into custody and before the car was towed away, a quick search of the car disclosed a large quantity of suspected Oxycodone (pill form), cocaine and methamphetamine. Police also seized more than $7,000 in Canadian currency. The driver was taken to Barrie police headquarters where a qualified breathalyzer operator confirmed that he was impaired by alcohol. As a result of the investigation, a 55-year-old Scarborough man was charged with: Two operation of a motor vehicle while impaired offences Four counts of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of cocaine, Oxycodone and methamphetamine Possession of Oxycodone of the purpose of trafficking Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on August 13. The involved vehicle has been impounded for seven days, and his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days.

2nd-degree murder count laid against man in downtown London stabbing
A second-degree murder charge has been laid against a 30-year-old London man following a stabbing in the city's downtown on Sunday that police say involved two people not known to one another. Emergency crews were called to the area of Colborne Street and Princess Avenue around 1 p.m. on Sunday for a reported stabbing, and located a man with serious, life-threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The suspect fled the scene on foot. The accused, identified as Khamis Toto, 30, of London, was arrested a short distance away, and appeared in court on Monday on a charge of second-degree murder. He'll return to court on Aug. 11. "Investigators have determined that the accused and the victim were not known to each other," police said. It's one of two homicides reported in the city by police on Sunday. Two London teens, 15 and 17, have been charged with second-degree murder after a 27-year-old man sustained fatal injuries in an assault near Breton Park Crescent and Manitoulin Drive around 1:40 a.m. Police had been called to the area following reports of a group of people fighting with weapons. Both homicides remain under investigation.
