Dehradun Schools Shut Amid Predictions Of Heavy Rain, Orange Alert
In Uttarakhand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for three days in the districts of Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pauri Garhwal and Udham Singh Nagar.
In view of the alert issued by the IMD, the Dehradun district administration announced the closure of all schools up to Class 12 and Anganwadi centres on August 4, 2025.
According to an alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Disaster Alert Portal, Dehradun district is likely to experience intense rainfall activity from the evening or night of August 3. The forecast warns of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
The Dehradun district administration in an order dated 03.08.2025 said, "As per the updated weather forecast for today issued by the IMD, Dehradun and NDMA's National Disaster Alert Portal, in view of the yellow alert and the Nowcast, Doppler radar issued last evening/night and the continuous heavy rainfall at present, an "Orange Alert" has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in Dehradun district, heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places, lightning with thunder at some places/ very strong to very strong spells of rain/ gusty winds (40-50 km/hr), heavy rainfall and very heavy rainfall at some places".
The district magistrate of Dehradun, Savin Bansal, directed that all government and private schools up to Class 12 and all Anganwadi centres remain closed for a day on August 4 as a precautionary measure. The order is aimed at ensuring the safety of students and children amid worsening weather conditions.
The order further read, "In view of the moderate to heavy rainfall currently occurring in all areas of Dehradun district, the possibility of landslides increases in sensitive places. Due to which any kind of unpleasant incident can occur. Therefore, in view of disaster mitigation, a one-day holiday has been declared today in all educational institutions and Anganwadi centres running from class 1 to 12 in the district."

IMD predicts light to moderate rain till August 10
NEW DELHI: The national capital is likely to see yet another week of showers, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms to prevail till August 10. On Monday, the capital saw no rainfall despite a cloudy sky throughout the day. Weather officials noted the possibility of thundercloud development by evening or night and expected light showers in the early hours of Tuesday. However, no precipitation was recorded across key observatories, including Safdarjung, Palam, Lodi Road, and Ayanagar, between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. Temperatures in the city hovered below the seasonal norm. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung was recorded at 33.4 degree celsius, about 0.8 degree celsus below normal, while the minimum stood at 27.2 degree celsius, which was slightly above average. Similar trends were observed across the capital, with maximum temperatures ranging between 31.8 degree celsus and 33.4 degree celsus and minimums between 25.6 degree celsus and 28.1 degree celsus. Humidity levels remained high, peaking at 85% and dipping to a minimum of 66% over the past 24 hours. Winds blew mostly from the west at speeds up to 17 kmph. According to the IMD, the monsoon trough currently lies to the north of Delhi, extending from Amritsar through Uttarakhand to the northeast. Multiple cyclonic circulations persist over Himachal Pradesh, south Rajasthan, and other adjoining regions, which are contributing to the capital's current weather pattern. For the rest of the week, Delhi is expected to see partly cloudy skies with a continued possibility of very light to light rain or thundershowers, especially in the evenings, the forecast said. Maximum temperatures are likely to remain in the range of 32-34 degree celsus till the weekend.

Heavy rain alert Jaipur: School holidays extended till Aug 6
Jaipur: In view of the heavy rain alert issued by the Meteorological Department, Jhalawar District Collector Ajay Singh Rathore on Monday extended school holidays in the district till August 6. The holidays that had been declared earlier have now been extended as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students. Chief District Education Officer (CDEO) Ram Singh Meena informed that all government and private schools from Class 1 to 12 will remain closed for students until August 6. Similarly, Anganwadi centres in the district will also remain shut during this period. Importantly, the order specifies that the holidays are applicable only to students. All academic and non-academic staff are required to attend school as usual. Strict action will be taken under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, if any institution is found conducting classes during the restricted period. It needs to be mentioned here that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for five districts in Rajasthan - Dholpur, Karauli, Dausa, Bharatpur, and Alwar - with forecasts of heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Additionally, moderate to heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for parts of Kota, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, and Jaipur divisions. In Kota district, where continuous rainfall since July 28 had led to waterlogging and disruption of normal life, the district administration had announced a week-long closure of all educational institutions. With an improvement in weather conditions, schools reopened on Monday.
