Actor and radio DJ Marcus Chin was worried he might have heart attack during Star Awards Top 10 win
It turns out the 71-year-old had been experiencing heart palpitations moments before his name was announced.
Having suffered a heart attack in October last year, Chin admitted he was 'scared' about what might happen.
'The first name called out wasn't mine, neither was the second, third… so my heart beat [sic] very fast and I felt discomfort and a lot of pressure,' he told 8days.sg backstage. He was the seventh actor to be announced.
'Even when I was standing on stage, my heart was still beating very fast. It only calmed down after I gave my speech and sat down,' he shared.
Chin noted that he never used to feel this way during past wins, but big events like awards shows and performances now trigger stress for him.
Just a week ago, Chin sparked health concerns when his gums bled when he was giving a speech during the Resilient Hearts 2025 charity show. The bleeding was a side effect of his heart medication.
'So if I win again next year, please call my name first,' he joked.
As for what was going through his mind on stage?
'I was worried I would forget my acceptance speech. I spoke more quickly this time 'cos I was worried I would run out of time and miss out on my punchline – thanking the two women in my life: [Mediacorp] CEO and the woman who has been [supporting] me, my girlfriend May,' he laughed.
'We live together, and she is the one looking after me. Not that she wants to stick to me all the time, but she is worried that something will happen to me, so she is always by my side.'

Christopher Lee got the best early birthday present when he took home three trophies at the Star Awards on Sunday night (Jul 6). The Malaysia-born actor, who turns 54 on Jul 23, was the night's biggest winner, clinching Best Actor for mystery drama Kill Sera Sera, Best Programme Host for variety show Dishing With Chris Lee 2, and the Special Achievement Award. The first two, he shared, were completely unexpected. In fact, he was so surprised that he hesitated before going on stage when pal Mark Lee announced his name for Best Programme Host. Backstage, still clutching his trophies in disbelief, Lee beamed: 'I'm really surprised and happy. I was very contented to just receive the Special Achievement Award. I didn't expect to get Best Host and Best Actor too.' Lee, who snagged Best Host for the same show in 2023, previously took home Best Actor in 1997 for The Price Of Peace and in 2013 for Show Hand. He also has four Golden Bell Awards under his belt. 'Like my wife said, 'What award can I win next year?'' he chuckled, referring to Fann Wong's infamous quip at the 1995 Star Awards. 'It really feels that way.' For those too young to remember, a then-newbie Wong caused a stir when she blurted those words after sweeping three awards: Best Actress for Chronicle Of Life, Best Newcomer and Top 5 Most Popular Artiste. While it's debatable if Wong appreciated him bringing up her controversial one-liner, one person who would be most pleased with Lees' antics is their 11-year-old son Zed. 'That's because I mentioned his name twice on stage,' said Lee. If you too were wondering who the 'buddy Li Xi Quan' Lee thanked in his acceptance speech was – it's Zed. Now that Lee is a two-time Best Host winner, does he think Zed – who impressed with his Mandarin skills at a Mother Tongue Symposium – would be inspired to follow in dad's footsteps to be a host? 'His Chinese is good?' Lee laughed. 'I'll let him make his own choices. Perhaps he might in the future. I will let him decide for himself.' He added: 'Our generation and his are very different, and so is their way of thinking. If he wants to be a host, I'd support him. If not, I'd encourage him to do something else. What's most important is that he does something he enjoys.' As for celebrating his wins, that will have to wait. Lee had to catch a flight back to Taiwan for work right after the awards. ArtScience Museum launching new exhibition by Dick Lee celebrating 60 years of Singapore's pop culture
Singapore turns 60 this year and a great way to commemorate the milestone is with a celebration of the country's vibrant pop culture. As part of its SG60 festivities, ArtScience Museum is presenting SingaPop! 60 Years of Singapore Pop Culture, a multimedia immersive exhibition launching on Aug 2. Presented in collaboration with mm2 Entertainment and supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Singapop! marks the first exhibition created by national icon and Cultural Medallion recipient Dick Lee – the celebrated musician behind National Day classics like Home. "Having lived through and been a part of the evolution of our cultural identity in the last 60 years, I'm proud to present this exhibition that showcases who we are: Idiosyncratic, colourful and uniquely Singaporean," said Lee in a statement. This immersive showcase unfolds across five chapters, each exploring a different facet of Singapore's evolving cultural identity over the past 60 years – from the birth of Singlish and the rise of hawker food, to the transformation of local fashion. The exhibition will also offer a glimpse of the stories of the people who have shaped Singapore's pop culture including vocal powerhouse Kit Chan, comedy king Kumar, music icon Rahimah Rahim and Lee himself. Some highlights include an animated map tracing the early migratory paths of communities from China, India, the Malay Archipelago and Europe – laying the foundation for the rich cultural diversity that defines Singapore today. At the heart of the exhibition is RojakLand, featuring six sections that spotlight the defining elements of Singaporean pop culture. Here, visitors can step into a theatre set and leave their mark at the central botanical pavilion where they can rubber-stamp their favourite pop culture icons. To add to the fun, there will be SingaStyle, which explores how fashion has helped shape Singapore's national identity in the 1950s. From the glamour of beauty pageants to everyday street style, visitors can admire pageant wear from 2013 to 2022, designed by renowned local designers Frederick Lee and Moe Kasim, alongside a digital fashion scrapbook curated by Dick Lee. The exhibition also turns the spotlight on Singapore's media evolution. There will be a screening room where visitors can explore how the nation's media landscape has expanded – starting from its first broadcast in 1963 to today's array of multilingual platforms. The section also features iconic local films and shows that have shaped the Singaporean narrative across generations.
