Namma Metro Yellow Line nears commercial launch
Stretching over 19.15 kilometers, the Yellow Line is currently awaiting its final safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), whose inspection is scheduled between July 22 and 25. While most technical certifications are in place—including the crucial Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) for the signalling systems—the green light from CMRS will be the final step before the line becomes operational.
The ISA certification, essential for Metro safety protocols, has already been granted to the Yellow Line's signalling partner Siemens India Ltd in collaboration with Siemens AG and a government agency from Italy. With this, the only remaining requirement is the CMRS's inspection report, which will evaluate key elements like tracks, viaducts, signalling, station amenities, and infrastructure readiness.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is reportedly considering three operational strategies, which include full-service across all 16 stations, a shorter run between RV Road and Bommasandra with select stops, or operations limited between Bommasandra and Central Silk Board.
Currently, BMRCL has three trains ready for deployment, with a fourth undergoing testing and likely to arrive by July 28.
Preparations for the inauguration are already in motion, with BMRCL engaging a private firm to create a promotional documentary featuring drone visuals of the route and its modern amenities.
This is expected to be showcased during the launch event in early August. The Yellow Line passes through prominent locations such as Bommasandra, Electronic City, Central Silk Board, BTM Layout, and Jayadeva Hospital, promising to ease commute for thousands of daily travelers in the city's southern tech corridor.
With its launch, Bengaluru inches closer to a fully integrated metro network aimed at reducing traffic congestion and boosting public transportation efficiency.

New Delhi: The shipbuilding industry in India is undergoing a transformational shift, as the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi accelerates efforts to build a world-class maritime ecosystem, according to Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. In line with the Maritime India Vision 2030 and the long-term strategic roadmap of Amrit Kaal, the Union Budget 2025 has announced a series of reforms and investments aimed at significantly enhancing the capacity and competitiveness of Indian shipyards. 'These initiatives are expected to strengthen India's position as an emerging global maritime power,' Sonowal said at the ongoing monsoon session of the Lok Sabha. Highlighting the government's commitment, Sonowal underlined the 'Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Policy which is being revamped to address cost disadvantages,' thereby helping Indian shipyards compete on equal footing with their international counterparts. The inclusion of credit notes for ship breaking in Indian yards reinforces the push towards a circular and sustainable maritime economy. To boost infrastructure financing, large ships above a specified size will now be classified under the Infrastructure Harmonised Master List, making them eligible for long-term, low-interest funding. Simultaneously, the government will facilitate the development of integrated shipbuilding clusters, equipped with modern infrastructure, skill development centres, and advanced technologies. This, the Budget notes, is aimed at 'increasing the range, categories and capacity of ships' built in India. In a landmark move to address the industry's need for long-term capital, the government has proposed a Rs 25,000 crore Maritime Development Fund, with up to 49 per cent government contribution. This fund will mobilise private and port-led investments to expand and modernise India's shipbuilding and repair capabilities. Recognising the long gestation nature of the industry, tax exemptions on Basic Customs Duty (BCD) for raw materials and components used in shipbuilding and ship-breaking have been extended for another 10 years. 'Our commitment to empower and enable our maritime sector is absolute and it is with this intent we are working under the dynamic leadership of PM Modi,' said Sonowal. To give Indian shipbuilders a competitive edge in public procurement, the government has extended the Right of First Refusal (ROFR) for tenders floated by public sector units. As per the Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order 2017, vessels valued under Rs 200 crore must be procured from Indian yards, thereby reinforcing the goal of self-reliance in maritime assets. On the ship repair front, Cochin Shipyard Limited has inaugurated a Rs 970 crore International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) in Kochi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on Saturday, August 2, and is all set to give his parliamentary constituency a massive development boost by launching multiple projects worth around ₹2,200 crore. PM Modi will also release the 20th instalment of PM-Kisan during his Varanasi visit.(DPR PMO) From roads to riverfronts, schools to smart electricity, temples to tourist hubs, the projects span key sectors and aim to achieve holistic urban transformation, cultural rejuvenation, improved connectivity, and enhanced quality of life in Varanasi. "For my family members in Kashi, tomorrow, August 2, is a very special day. Around 11 in the morning, I will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several projects related to education, health, sports, tourism, and connectivity. On this occasion, I will also have the privilege of releasing the 20th instalment of PM-Kisan," PM Modi wrote on X. Road and connectivity PM Modi will inaugurate the widening and strengthening of key roads such as the Varanasi-Bhadohi road and Chhitauni-Shool Tankeshwar road. A new railway overbridge at Hardattpur will ease congestion on the busy Mohan Sarai-Adalpura stretch. He will also lay the foundation for multiple urban and rural road projects — including corridors at Lahartara-Kotwa, Dalmandi, Gangapur, and Babatpur — and new railway overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard. New Delhi: In a significant push towards development in his parliamentary constituency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a wide range of development projects worth approximately Rs 2,200 crore. During his visit, PM Modi will address a public gathering at around 11 a.m. and will release the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. Under this instalment, more than Rs 20,500 crore will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across the country, reaffirming the government's continued support for India's agricultural community. As part of the efforts to strengthen connectivity, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the widening and strengthening of key roads, including the Varanasi–Bhadohi road and the Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar road. He will also inaugurate a railway overbridge at Hardattpur, which is expected to alleviate congestion on the heavily used Mohan Sarai–Adalpura route. In addition, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for several new infrastructure projects including road upgrades in Dalmandi, Lahartara–Kotwa, Gangapur, and Babatpur.
