Pak student selected for IOAI
KARACHI: A Pakistani student namely Muhammad Ayan Abdullah has been selected to represent the country at the prestigious International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), due in Beijing, China from August 2 to 9, 2025.
Viper Technology, Pakistan's leading IT hardware manufacturer, has extended full support to enable his participation. In collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), Viper has proudly provided its flagship 'PLUTO AI PC'-a locally assembled, high-performance computer designed specifically for Al and machine learning workloads.
This initiative is part of Viper Technology's mission to empower Pakistani youth with cutting-edge tools and promote 'Made in Pakistan' innovation in global competitions. The PLUTO AI PC provided to Muhammad Ayan is part of Viper's newest Al PC line-built in Pakistan, built for performance, and now headed to Beijing.

High Commissioner of Kenya visits FCCI
FAISALABAD: Lt General Peter Mbogo Nijru (R), High Commissioner of Kenya has appreciated the 'Look Africa' policy of the Government of Pakistan urging upon the business community of Faisalabad to fully harvest its dividends by enhancing bilateral trade and making investment in Kenya. Addressing the business community in Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), he said that textile was the only globally recognized sector of Faisalabad but he has now come to know that pharmaceutical, chemicals, food processing, IT and other sectors are now also growing at a much faster pace. He said that Pakistani investors could invest in Kenya to produce different commodities in addition to its processing, packaging and exports to African and other countries. He mentioned the African Union and said that products manufactured in Kenya could be exported to different countries without any duty. 'Similarly Kenyan products have duty and quota free access to some European and American markets,' he said and added Pakistani investors could also explore this opportunity. He said that we must negotiate trade agreements between Pakistan and Kenya to give a quantum jump to our bilateral trade. He said that Kenya also offers huge opportunities for the promotion of tourism as it has scenic valleys like Gilgit and Baltistan. He also congratulated FCCI on its Golden Jubilee Year and hoped that it would make tremendous progress in the coming years. Earlier Rehan Naseem Bharara, President FCCI welcomed the Kenyan High Commissioner and said that our Ministry of Commerce was negotiating on an agreement to provide access to the Pakistani exporters to the eight different African countries including Kenya. He said that Pakistan was importing huge quantities of tea and coffee from Kenya and its investors must consider the cultivation and processing of these products in Pakistan. He also mentioned some tariff barriers and said that the Kenyan Government should revisit existing tariffs particularly on confectionary products. He also stressed the need to promote direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries and pointed out that some Pakistani banks are reluctant to accept LCs issued by the Kenyan banks. He said that this issue should be resolved on a top priority basis to streamline the banking channels. Naveed Akram Sheikh, Mirza Zahid Iqbal, Jawad Shafique, Mirza Muhammad Ashraf Mughal and Mian Muhammad Tayyab took part in the question answer session while Qaisar Shams Gucha, SVP offered vote of thanks. Rehan Naseem Bharara decorated Peter Mbogo Nijru with a special pin of FCCI Golden Jubilee. He also presented a FCCI shield to the Kenyan High Commissioner while they also exchanged gifts with each other. KATI opposes gas price hike decision
KARACHI: Junaid Naqi, President of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), has strongly opposed the federal government's decision to increase gas prices for the industrial sector, bulk consumers, and the power sector from July 1st, calling it 'disastrous' for Pakistan's already struggling economy. Naqi expressed deep concern over the move, stating that industries are already burdened with skyrocketing electricity, fuel, and raw material costs. 'Now, this increase in gas tariffs will deliver a serious blow to the economy,' he said. Gas, he added, is a critical raw material for several key sectors, particularly textiles, food processing, iron and steel, chemicals, and fertilizer, all of which will be directly impacted. He also criticized the government's simultaneous decision to raise fixed gas charges for domestic consumers by 50%, noting that the indirect financial burden would also eventually fall on industries. 'By shifting the weight of this increase onto the industrial sector, the government is once again treating businesses as scapegoats,' Naqi remarked. The KATI President warned that the hike in gas prices would not only raise production costs significantly but also render Pakistani exports uncompetitive in the global market. 'The government seems oblivious to the fact that a decline in exports directly affects foreign exchange reserves and slows down overall economic momentum,' he added. Naqi pointed out that independent power producers (IPPs), who rely on gas to generate electricity, would now produce even more expensive power, a cost that would ultimately be passed on to the public, small businesses, and the industrial sector alike. 'At a time when Pakistan desperately needs industry-friendly policies to stay afloat, such decisions are akin to stalling the wheels of economic activity,' he stressed. Referring to OGRA's approval of a 6.6% increase in gas tariffs for fiscal year 2025–26 to help gas companies recover a revenue target of Rs 890 billion, including Rs 354 billion for Karachi-based SSGC alone, Naqi said the industrial sector is being unfairly forced to shoulder the consequences of financial mismanagement by public gas utilities.
