We're on to the weekend at Jack's Place. Nick Taylor and Ben Griffin opened the third round of action at the 2025 Memorial atop the leaderboard at 7 under, with a host of others all in the running.

Ben Griffin takes 5-stroke lead
While others are struggling with the conditions, Ben Griffin is cruising, as he's moved out to a 5-stroke lead. His first birdie of the day came on the sixth hole, and he followed with two more on 7 and 8 to improve to 10 under as he approaches the turn. Griffin opened the day tied with Nick Taylor at 7 under, but Taylor opened with consecutive bogies and has since shot par on five straight holes to remain alone in second at 5 under.
Taylor drops two strokes to start, Griffin alone in lead
Griffin did what he did for most of Friday's competition, shooting par on the opening hole to stay at 7 under, but his playing partner wasn't so lucky. Taylor's 24-foot putt for par on the first hole missed by two feet, dropping him to 6 under for the day and one stroke behind Griffin. He followed with another bogey on No. 2, meaning Griffin had a two-stroke lead early on.

Sepp Straka is having birdie fun at Memorial
On Saturday, Sepp Straka notched a half-dozen birdies in a round for the second day in a row en route to posting a 66. What was the difference between Friday and Saturday? The other holes.
In the second round, Straka added a bogey and three doubles, while on Saturday, he was bogey-free.

"I had trouble yesterday in the rain hitting my driver in the fairway, got in some tough positions and, yeah, it's easy to get out of position on this golf course," Straka said. "Any time you're on a tee, you can either make a double or you can make a birdie. It's one of those courses where there's a lot of volatility, and today I executed pretty well, judged my lies very well, and judged the wind very well, which I did not do the first two days."

As of 4:30 p.m., Straka is in fourth place, 3 under and in a five-way tie with Jordan Spieth and others.
Scoring is difficult at Memorial on Saturday
The course is playing difficult today at the Memorial as just four players as of 1:30 p.m. are under par for the round. The leaders have yet to go off, but it's still a sign that a low number will be able to make a big jump today, as the majority of players are giving strokes away. Only Sepp Straka is more than one under for the day thus far, as his two birdies in the first seven holes have pushed him into the top 20 at 1 over for the tournament.
Who's on the Memorial TV broadcast?
Vets Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman lead the CBS Sports crew on today's broadcast of the Memorial. See below for full TV details.
There's sunshine at Muirfield
Hideki Matsuyama is first off the tee at 10 a.m. and the 2014 Memorial winner from "The Land of the Rising Sun" is probably glad there is some sun today. Matsuyama, the only Memorial winner from Japan, goes off alone, which means no five-hour round for him.

Who is Bob Baptist and why is he a big deal at the Memorial?

Bob Baptist has been retired since 2015, but still says 'we' and 'us' when discussing sports writers and the media biz. A true newspaper man never forgets, and BB's blood still runs printer ink black.
Trivia question: Who has written more words than anyone about the Memorial Tournament? Answer: Baptist, whose career at The Columbus Dispatch lasted from 1976 until he typed his last sentence nearly four decades later. During that span, BB covered every Memorial, becoming something of a wet-weather expert along the way.

Can Scottie Scheffler earn another milkshake?
Scottie Scheffler shakes hands with tournament Jack Nicklaus after winning the 2024 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
At the 2024 Memorial Tournament, Scottie Scheffler finally was on the receiving end of the coveted winner's handshake from host Jack Nicklaus. It was a meaningful moment for Scheffler, who recalled coming up short at Muirfield Village Golf Club in 2021 and getting a cool consolation prize from the 18-time major winner affectionately called the Golden Bear.
'He shakes my hand and he says, 'Listen Scottie, you didn't make the putt today, but one day you're going to make the putt on this green to win this tournament.' And I said, 'Well thanks, Mr. Nicklaus, I really appreciate the support, thanks for a great week year, yada, yada, yada.' And a couple years later, he was right, I made the putt to win the tournament,' Scheffler recalled during his Wednesday pre-tournament press conference for the 2025 Memorial. 'It was just a really cool kind of full-circle moment.'

Scheffler enters the third round just three shots behind the leaders.

Miss Ghost and Tommy? What to know so far about 'Power: Origins' spinoff
The "Power Universe" continues to expand. "Power: Origins," the newest installment to the hit crime series on Starz, is officially in development, the premium cable network announced on July 22. The show will be the fourth spinoff of the television franchise, executive produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. It follows the flagship series "Power," created by Courtney Kemp, which concluded in 2020. It starred actor Omari Hardwick as James "Ghost" St. Patrick − a drug dealer turned businessman trying to navigate his criminal enterprise while building a legitimate reputation in New York City. Other extensions, "Power Book II: Ghost," "Power Book III: Raising Kanan" and "Power Book IV: Force" came soon after. "Force" is centered around Ghost's right-hand man Tommy Egan, played by Joseph Sikora, who took off to Chicago for a new start. More: 'Power Book III: Raising Kanan' star Patina Miller discusses season 4, her return as Raq How many episodes will 'Power: Origins' Season 1 have? "Power: Origins" will focus on the beginnings of Ghost and Tommy, or as showrunner Sascha Penn calls them, "the Power Universe's founding fathers." "Ghost and Tommy's backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I'm thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won't see coming," Penn, also a writer and executive producer, said in a press release. Starz ordered 18 episodes for the highly anticipated prequel. According to Starz, actor Mekai Curtis, who plays protagonist adolescent Kanan Stark on "Raising Kanan," will return to his role in the spinoff. According to The Hollywood Reporter, young Ghost and Tommy have not been cast yet. "A fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the 'Power' franchise, 'Power: Origins' will highlight the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game," Starz said. Which 'Power' spinoffs are headed to their final seasons? The third and final season of "Power Book IV: Force" is slated to air in the fall, Starz said. "Very grateful to the people over at Starz for keeping it going and listening to the fans, this army of fans around the world," Sikora previously told USA TODAY. The fourth season of "Power Book III: Raising Kanan" aired earlier in 2025. The conclusion to the show has already been shot and will end with Season 5. An air date has not been announced. "There is still an exceptionally intense and action-packed season left for the viewers to experience, and I assure you that the stakes for Kanan and the entire Thomas family have never been higher," Penn wrote in an Instagram post. Jordan Spieth Makes Personal Announcement Ahead of 2025 Open Championship
Jordan Spieth Makes Personal Announcement Ahead of 2025 Open Championship originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The fourth and final major of the PGA Tour season is set to unfold this coming week at Royal Portrush Golf Club in the United Kingdom, beginning with the first round on Thursday. One familiar name making his return is Jordan Spieth, who was forced to withdraw during the first round of the Travelers Championship three weeks ago due to injury. Spieth, the winner of the 146th Open Championship in 2017, will be back in action at a venue where he's previously seen success. Ahead of this week's tournament, Spieth received some exciting personal news that could provide a boost of motivation. On Sunday morning, he and his wife Annie Verret announced the birth of their third child. Earlier in the week, Spieth had appeared on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, where he shared that the couple was officially on "baby watch." Just days later, the family's newest addition has arrived. "We added a new member to the foursome - Sully Spieth! Everyone is doing great," Spieth posted on Instagram. Spieth noted that he is expected to arrive overseas later than usual for The Open, but should still have plenty of time to prepare for his return to the course following a bumpy 2025 campaign. Despite the struggles he's faced since his last Tour victory in 2022, Spieth continues to show flashes of the brilliance that made him a three-time major champion—he just hasn't been able to put it all together over the course of four rounds When it comes to The Open specifically, he's consistently performed well throughout his 11 appearances. Spieth has never missed the cut and, in addition to his 2017 victory, he's recorded a runner-up finish, a tie for eighth, and a tie for ninth. The last time The Open was held at Royal Portrush in 2019, he finished 20thThis story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 13, 2025, where it first appeared.
