Delhi fuel ban: We are still flying over 40-year-old aircraft, why restrictions on personal vehicles, asks ex-IAF pilot
Ex-IAF pilot Sanjeev Kapoor raised concerns over the selective crackdown on personal vehicles while older modes of transport continue to operate unchecked.
"We are still flying aircraft that are over 40 years old and many of our trains, buses, boats, ferries, and commercial planes in daily use are more than three decades old," he wrote. 'So why are restrictions being imposed only on personal vehicles?'
Kapoor also voiced concerns about the possible unintended effects of the ban. 'With fuel no longer available at gas stations, this will only create a parallel ecosystem, which is neither sustainable nor desirable. That's my take,' he added.
Amid public outrage, the Delhi government has 'put on hold' its controversial order barring fuel for 'end of life' vehicles -- referring to petrol cars older than 15 years and diesel vehicles over 10 years old.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa told reporters that implementing such a fuel ban is challenging due to 'technological challenges and complex systems.' He added that authorities are working on a plan to seize poorly-maintained vehicles, rather than penalise owners who properly maintain their cars and motorcycles.
"We are trying to ensure that the vehicles are not banned according to their age but rather on the basis of the pollution caused by them," Sirsa said."

Earlier on Friday, several houses were damaged and vehicles were washed away due to the cloudbursts and heavy rainfall in the state over the last 24 hours. A local whose house has been damaged following a cloudburst said, "Everything got washed away after a cloudburst. We are staying at our relatives' house." At least 37 people have died and Rs 400 crore worth of property was damaged as torrential rains disrupted life across Himachal Pradesh, according to the state Disaster Management Authority. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for the state until July 7. According to the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority and the Revenue Department, the state has suffered damages amounting to more than Rs 400 crore due to incessant monsoon rains. Search, rescue, and relief operations are underway, particularly in the worst-hit Mandi district, where several roads remain blocked and essential services are disrupted. "We have recorded over Rs 400 crore in losses so far, as entered in our system. But the actual damage is likely to be much higher," said DC Rana, Special Secretary of the State Disaster Management Authority and the Revenue Department, while speaking to the media on Wednesday. "Our primary focus at the moment is on search, rescue, and restoration. Detailed damage assessment will take time," he added. The worst-affected area remains Thunag subdivision of Mandi, where major restoration efforts are in progress.

Is it right to play sports with Pak post-Pahalgam attack, asks Aaditya Thackeray; slams govt over security
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Friday questioned the appropriateness of India playing cricket and hockey matches against Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup tournaments, amid the hostilities between the two countries in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack . Talking to reporters on the premises of the Vidhan Bhavan, the state legislature complex here, he said several questions concerning national security were still unanswered. "Is it right to play matches with Pakistan when the country is sponsoring terror against us? Should the Indian team play Asia Cup cricket and hockey tournaments against Pakistan? We want a clear answer from the BJP and the Union government," Thackeray said. The BJP-led government appears to be testing the waters with the Asia Cup hockey scheduled to start in the last week of August. India is the host country and matches will be played in Bihar. It is setting the stage for a potential cricket match in the UAE during the Asia Cup, the Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA said. Read more: Pakistan's hockey team to be allowed to compete at Asia Cup in India: Report Live Events "If the BCCI allows the Indian cricket team to play against Pakistan, will the BJP label it as anti-national as it does with others?" he asked. The Asia Cup T20 is expected to be held in September, while the Asia Cup Hockey tournament is scheduled to begin on August 27 in Bihar. Thackeray also expressed dissatisfaction over the Centre's response to the Pahalgam terror attack and the handling of national security. "Firstly, the police released a sketch of the accused only to be termed as fake by the NIA later. After Operation Sindoor, government delegations were sent to several countries as if nothing had happened. Is this how national security is protected?" the former Maharashtra minister said. "There are still several unanswered questions. We will not accept silence as a response," he said. Thackeray further raised concerns about the country's diplomatic outreach. "Despite India's repeated objections, Pakistan continues to receive financial assistance from institutions like the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. It has now even assumed the presidency of the UN Security Council. What has the External Affairs Ministry achieved with its outreach?" he questioned. Turning to cricketing ties, Thackeray took a veiled dig at International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah, stating, "Even if the BCCI decides to oppose playing against Pakistan, will the ICC under the leadership of Jay Shah actually listen?"

FaceGym, in the coming months, will introduce skincare brands in the Indian market. According to Reliance, this is part of its major plan to expand in the booming beauty and fitness sector. What Did Both The Companies Say? As per Reliance's statement, FaceGym will enter the Indian market with the help of Reliance Retail's brand Tira. Tira will look after the UK-based company's local operations and market development. Notably, FaceGym will bring its innovative concept to the Indian market. The Ambani-led company said that it will establish the brand and also expand its presence in the country in the next five years. To achieve this goal, the company is planning to mix single studio, curated areas in select Tira stores in major cities. What Reliance Retail Is Planning? Reliance Retail had recently stated that it is expanding its operations to a great extent, with plans to open more stores in order to expand its coverage area. The company has also witnessed a growth of 2.4 times in the number of orders from its Quick Commerce in the March quarter. While revealing its quarterly figures earlier this week, Reliance Retail Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Dinesh Taluja stated that this reported growth is significant for the company.
