Perlis council officer released on MACC bail in RM70k graft case
The 37-year-old woman remains under investigation for allegedly accepting bribes alongside a retired enforcement assistant from the same council.
Perlis MACC director Mohd Nor Adha Ab Gani confirmed the release but stressed that investigations are ongoing.
The case involves approximately RM70,000, with bribes reportedly ranging from RM300 to RM9,000.
The retired officer, aged 61, was released earlier on July 17.
'The retired officer, who was remanded with the woman on July 15, was released on July 17,' Mohd Nor Adha told Bernama via WhatsApp.
The suspects allegedly solicited bribes from applicants seeking house renovation permit approvals between 2022 and 2024.
Payments were reportedly made via bank transfers to the male suspect's account, which was later shared with the female suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama

JKT To Provide SOPs For Community Service Enforcement
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Local Government Department (JKT) will issue standard operating procedures (SOPs) to local authorities (PBTs) to ensure uniform implementation of court-ordered community service sentences for individuals convicted of littering in public areas. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the SOPs will be introduced following the passing of the Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat today, to ensure effective implementation of the law while upholding social justice for all offenders. Nga added that capacity building is important for PBT officers, especially when dealing with young offenders. 'They must fully understand not only the provisions under the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171) but also the Child Act 2001 (Act 611), which has been taken into account in the ministry's implementation plan to ensure effective legal enforcement,' he said when winding up the debate on the Bill. The Bill was passed by a majority voice vote after being debated by eight Members of Parliament from both the government and opposition blocs. The amendment introduces a new Subsection 104A(1), which empowers the courts to order individuals convicted of breaching by-laws under Act 171 to perform up to 12 hours of community service, in addition to any fines imposed. Subsection 104A(3) provides that authorised PBT officers shall determine the time and place for carrying out the community service once a court order is issued. Meanwhile, Subsection 104A(8) states that if the offender is under the age of 18, provisions under Act 611 regarding community service orders will apply. Nga further said the ministry has outlined several strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the law, including increasing the number of authorised PBT officers for enforcement and monitoring purposes.

MCMC probing offensive post on royal institution
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating an individual suspected of posting extremely offensive comments on Facebook that touched on the royal institution regarding the appointment of the Chief Justice. Azam pays first courtesy visit to newly appointed IGP
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Mohd Ismail at the Federal Police headquarters today. In a social media post on the Royal Malaysia Police official Facebook page, it was confirmed that this afternoon's visit marked Azam's first official call on Mohd Khalid following his appointment as the country's 15th IGP on June 23. "The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between both enforcement agencies. "Among the key areas discussed were the implementation of the Joint Action Task Force, operational information sharing, and coordinated investigations," the post read. It added that the discussion was aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts. "The visit reflects a continued commitment to inter-agency collaboration, particularly in combating corruption and ensuring justice is upheld," the post said. Mohd Khalid, who hails from Manong, Perak, was born on April 8, 1965. He holds a Master's Degree in Comparative Law from the International Islamic University Malaysia. His appointment as IGP was consented to by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with Clauses (4) and (5) of Article 140 of the Federal Constitution, upon the advice of the Prime Minister and the recommendation of the Police Force Commission.
