Ford recalls more than 200,000 vehicles with software glitch due to crash risk
According to a recall notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the vehicle manufacturer is recalling 200,061 vehicles, including certain 2018-2022 Transit Connect; 2019-2020 MKZ, Edge, Continental, F-150, Nautilus, and Fusion; 2019-2023 Ranger and Mustang; 2020-2021 EcoSport, Expedition and Navigator; 2020-2022 Escape, F-250 SD and Corsair; 2020-2023 Aviator and Transit; 2020-2024 Explorer; 2021-2024 Bronco Sport; and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles.
The recall says a recently discovered software error could cause rearview cameras to display a blank image or even a frozen image on the display after putting the vehicle into reverse.
Ford noted that the blank image from a rearview camera could reduce a driver's view from behind the wheel.
If an image continues to be displayed after the vehicle shifts out of reverse, Ford added, the driver may become distracted.
Both scenarios increase the risk of crashes, Ford noted.

Ford, GM Notch Sales Surge as Detroit Braces for Slump
Shares in two of Detroit's Big Three automakers went into overdrive Tuesday as Ford and General Motors reported surging sales in the second quarter. New overall market data, however, suggests the windfall — felt by other automakers as well —was fueled largely by panic buyers trying to get ahead of tariffs. The concern now is that the second half of 2025 will be like driving a compact sedan down the Rubicon Trail. READ ALSO: OPEC+ Wants to Pump Its Way Back to the Top and Microsoft Cuts Another 9,000 Employees The auto industry and prospective US auto buyers are in a road race with economics, in a sense. The Trump administration slapped a 25% tariff on imported cars and trucks in April, along with duties on foreign-made parts. With the looming threat of price hikes, Americans flocked to showrooms and purchased roughly 173,000 extra vehicles in March and April, according to JD Power analysts. On Tuesday, automakers reported sterling sales numbers thanks to the combination of panic buying and incentives to clear out inventory amid the customer frenzy, most notably Ford offering employee discount pricing through July 6. (Saddling that Mustang will become pricier next week). Ford said that its second-quarter sales rocketed 14% from a year earlier to 612,095 vehicles, or 'about 10 times the estimated 1.4% industry increase,' the company boasted. Sales of the company's F-Series, Ranger, and Maverick pickups climbed 15% to 288,564. Ford shares jumped 4.6% and have climbed over 14% this year. GM said its second-quarter sales rose 7% to 746,588 vehicles, sending its shares up 5.7% on Tuesday. GM said it sold a record number of crossovers so far this year, including its Chevrolet Trax, Traverse, and Equinox; GMC Acadia and Terrain; and Buick Envista and Encore GX. But there's already data that suggests the once burning-hot sales trend is, like the Canadian territory that lends the GMC Yukon its name, on the cool side: JD Power estimates the annualized pace of auto sales dropped to 15 million in June from 17.6 million in April, the slowest in 12 months. The firm's analysts wrote that the 173,000 extra vehicles sold in March and April amount to a 'pull-ahead effect' that 'has now become a payback effect, deflating June sales below the actual level of vehicle demand.' Sales may grow even more sluggish if carmakers conclude that they need to raise prices to pass on tariff costs to consumers. Cox Automotive estimates importing a car will cost $5,700 more under tariffs and assembling one in the US will cost $1,000 more, with consumers looking at 4% to 8% price hikes. JD Power, however, says buyers still may have time, predicting that even if some price hikes may arrive this month and in August, 'it will likely be at year's end before manufacturers' new pricing and incentive strategies fully materialize.' Ford and GM's South Korean rivals also reported strong sales Tuesday: Hyundai said 10% US sales growth led to its best first-half ever, with Kia's 8% sales growth helping it reach the same landmark. Humming Along: GM sold over 4,500 electric Hummer SUVs in a banner second quarter for electric vehicle sales that bucked a trend of slumping EV sales in the broader industry. The company, which became America's second-largest EV seller after Tesla last year, sold a total of 46,280 electric vehicles in Q2, representing a 111% year-over-year increase. Ford's sales of all-electric vehicles, meanwhile, fell 31% YoY in the quarter, though sales of hybrid vehicles rose 23%. The Chevy Equinox EV, which sold over 17,000 units, is the breakout star of GM's electrified run. This post first appeared on The Daily Upside. The Nissan Z Is Crushing the Toyota Supra With Triple Sales
The Nissan Z got off to a slow start, partly due to production delays and supply chain disruptions caused by the microchip shortage. Dealer markups didn't help either. But that's all in the past. In 2025, the rear-wheel-drive coupe is performing better than ever. Demand more than doubled in the first quarter, surging 108% to 1,635 units. For the first half of the year, deliveries jumped 160.1% to 3,789 cars. Meanwhile, the Toyota Supra is having a much tougher year. The BMW-engineered sports car racked up just 1,231 sales in the first six months of 2025. The number represents a 17.7% drop compared to the January–June 2024 period. Yes, the Z is outselling the Supra by a 3-to-1 margin. Looking ahead, Nissan won't have to worry about the Supra much longer. Photo by: Toyota Toyota is pulling the plug after the 2026 model year, with a Final Edition limited to 1,300 units. However, a sixth-generation model is already in the works , so the gap between generations is likely to be shorter than before. Enthusiasts in the U.S. certainly won't have to wait another two decades like they did between the Mk4 and Mk5. While the Z and Supra continue to lock horns, the Ford Mustang remains far ahead. Despite a 14.2% decline through June, the pony car still tallied 23,551 sales, more than four times the combined total of the Z and Supra. We haven't forgotten about Nissan's other performance car, the GT-R. Only 37 units were sold in the first half of the year, down 75.5%. That's hardly surprising, as U.S. production ended last October after the final Skyline Edition and Takumi Edition models. Japan closed its order books in late February, signaling the end of the R35. A new GT-R is planned, but it won't arrive anytime soon. If the radical Hyper Force concept is any indication, it could be fully electric. Another New Recall Does Little Damage to Ford Stock (NYSE:F)
If the news of recalls at legacy automaker Ford (F) is starting to get a bit tiresome, then you are seeing perhaps the biggest problem in its full bloom. Another recall landed at Ford, though this one might be an easy fix. The news meant little to shareholders, who gave Ford a hefty 3.5% boost in Wednesday afternoon's trading. A software defect in the camera can cause it to fail, which increases the risk of a vehicle crash, and potentially, injury from there. Anyone who has used a rear-view camera recently, and knows what it is like to drive without one—particularly in a crowded parking lot—knows what kind of utility such a camera can offer. Ford noted that the camera could malfunction in one of two ways: the camera could display a blank image outright, or the last image might remain on the display even after backing up is complete. The fix for such a problem should be simple, however. Dealerships will update the camera's software with the appropriate fix, once available. Those whose vehicles are impacted will receive notice in a practice that Ford has had a lot of opportunity to perfect these days. Switching Lanes Meanwhile, BlueCruise—Ford's Level 2 hands-free driving system —is getting an update as well, and delivering some noteworthy new features. The new system can actually perform automated lane changes, which allows it to pass slower-moving vehicles and also get out of the way of faster-moving vehicles coming up from behind. There are some revisions to the user interface set to come in as well, which will offer up reasons why BlueCruise made the moves it did. For instance, it can notify a driver why hands-free driving was shut down. There is, unfortunately, bad news that goes along with this. The new version of BlueCruise, version 1.5, features upgraded Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) hardware. Thus, users of older BlueCruise systems will not be able to get the update as their hardware will prove incompatible. Is Ford Stock a Good Buy Right Now?
