August Games Release Dates 2025 – What's New on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, and PC
2025 has been a good year for game releases so far, with a brand-new console in the Switch 2, some big hitters like Monster Hunter Wilds, and plenty of smaller indie releases that have gotten big attention.
Last month was a fairly quiet month overall for new game releases – Donkey Kong Bananza excepted – but it still had some pretty great games, and August is looking to be in a pretty similar position. There are some brand-new games in beloved series, new entries in sports series, a remaster of an Xbox classic, and a long-awaited Metal Gear Solid remaster — or maybe it's a remake, it's a little unclear.

We've put together this list of the most anticipated games releasing in August 2025, including their release date, release platforms, and trailers where available.
Mafia: The Old Country – August 8
Release platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
The Mafia series hasn't seen a release in almost a decade, after the pretty good but still relatively mixed Mafia 3 released in 2016, but The Old Country is doing things a little bit different. A prequel to the entire series, Mafia: The Old Country sees you playing as Enzo Favara who joins the Torrisi crime family in 1900s Sicily. It's said to be a little closer to the roots of the series, but it will still feature open-world elements, making it feel a little more modern than some of its early predecessors.
Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition – August 14
Release platform: PC
August is going to be a fairly big month for remakes and remasters, and it's all kicking off with a remaster of the first 40K: Dawn of War game. It's not a total overhaul like other entries on this list — instead, it's focused on bringing the game up to modern standards, improving lighting and textures, and putting all the additional content in one package. The development team behind Dawn of War says that it's planning to keep the game open for easy modding and additional community content, so it's almost certainly going to be the best way to play.
Madden NFL 26 – August 14
Release platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC
Madden NFL 26 is the latest and, presumably, greatest game in the long-running Madden NFL series, but it's still a Madden game, so you probably know exactly what you're getting here. The key thing worth mentioning is that, for the first time in a very long time, the newest Madden game is going to be on a Nintendo platform, with the game set to be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 alongside all other platforms.
Drag X Drive – August 14
Release platform: Nintendo Switch 2
Maybe Madden isn't for you, but you still want to get in on the ball sports action — Nintendo has a game for you, and it's called Drag x Drive. This unique game is a 3v3 wheelchair basketball game where you use each Joy-Con 2 as a mouse, dragging it along as if you were controlling the independent wheels of a wheelchair. It looks pretty interesting conceptually, but we've yet to see much of the game in its entirety, so it's a bit of an unknown entity.
Sword of the Sea – August 19
Release platforms: PS5, PC
Abzu and The Pathless developer Giant Squid has its newest game releasing this month: Sword of the Sea. This curious game has you surfing atop a sword through a beautifully crafted, atmospheric world on a quest to restore a lost ocean to the world. It's essentially a hoverboard exploration game, and you can do sick tricks like flips, spins, and grabs as you surf through the world. It's definitely worth checking out.
Gears of War: Reloaded – August 26
Release platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
The first Gears of War is getting an extensive remaster treatment with Gears of War: Reloaded, which includes both the base game and all previously released DLC in one gorgeous package. There's massively improved visuals, much better performance, a reworked control scheme that brings it up to modern standards, and a whole lot more. It's also the first Gears of War game to come to a PlayStation console, which feels a little bit blasphemous, but it's good to see more games being available to more players.
Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar – August 27
Release platforms: Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC
Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar is a ground-up remake of the original DS game of the same(ish) name, which is something that's going to be very exciting for a lot of players who grew up with the game. It's a gorgeous little farming game with a heavy focus on both growing crops but also selling and buying at the eponymous grand bazaar, all the while getting to know the villagers... and maybe even striking up a relationship with one. If you're a fan of life sim games, the Story of Seasons series is the originator and among the best, so make sure you grab this one.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – August 28
Release platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of the most adored games in the classic series, and this remaster/remake looks to be one of the best ways to play it to date. It's completely overhauled the game's visuals and controls, with modern Unreal Engine 5 at the core of it, and has improved soundscapes, new game modes, and so much more. It even has a clever system for showing damage, as Snake's clothes and body will now take visual damage upon getting hurt.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance – August 29
Release platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC
It's been almost 30 years since the release of a new 2D Shinobi game, and now the series is set to make a combat with Art of Vengeance. It's being developed by Lizardcube, the Parisian developer behind the excellent Streets of Rage 4 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, so you know it's going to be fantastic.
Lost Soul Aside – August 29
Release platforms: PS5, PC
Lost Soul Aside has been in development for almost a decade — so long, in fact, that it may end up flying under the radar. It shouldn't though, because it looks fantastic, with fast-paced action RPG gameplay set in an absolutely gorgeous fantasy world. The game was developed by Chinese studio Ultizero Games as part of Sony's China Hero Project, which helps fund and release games made by Chinese developers, and everything we've seen of it so far looks incredible. Don't sleep on this one.

I've tried many PC gaming headsets and I'm not a fan, but I still recommend this one to gamers
I'll be honest: I'm not a fan of gaming headsets. I've tried many over the years, including some from some of the most popular brands out there, and there was always something wrong with them. Be it poor audio, a terrible microphone, or a lack of reliability, they always failed me in one way or another. However, over two years ago, I was gifted the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 for my birthday. I can now confidently say that this is the only headset I've ever recommended to gamers, even after having tried around a dozen in the past few years. At first, I was skeptical As a PC builder, my focus was always on getting the best gaming PC I could possibly get my hands on. Peripherals, including mice, were always an afterthought. But with headsets, it's kind of a whole different story, Recommended Videos I never underestimated the impact of having a good headset in a gaming scenario. I play online, so I've been through my fair share of people with terrible microphones. Whether it was background noise that made them sound as if they were piloting an airplane through a hurricane, or microphone quality so bad that you could barely hear them, over two decades of online gaming taught me that you must have a decent mic if you'll be speaking to people. I learned pretty early on that those mics are usually not found in gaming headsets. Yup, I'm one of those elitists who always try to tell you to get a standalone microphone — sorry in advance. By the time I received the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7, I was already fed up with the whole idea of a gaming headset. I've dealt with several that were all some kind of awful, and my solution was to get a separate pair of Audio-Technica headphones combined with the Antlion ModMic Wireless. I wasn't all that eager to try another failed attempt at a satisfactory gaming headset when my makeshift combo worked so well. (For reference, the ModMic is essentially a microphone attachment that you can attach to any pair of headphones, but it sounds way better than most headsets I've ever tried.) Still, the SteelSeries headphones were a surprise gift, and I wasn't about to just throw them in a cupboard and forget about them. I decided to give them an honest try. It wasn't love at first sight. I liked the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 more each day A couple of years ago, I shared a rant here on Digital Trends, proclaiming that I was done with gaming headsets. I spoke about my Arctis Nova 7, but I wasn't very generous. 'I can't say that I hate it,' I admitted, if somewhat reluctantly. I then went on to complain about the fact that they turned themselves off constantly. That'd be enough to annoy just about anyone, so I can't fault 2023 Monica for being frustrated with it. I can, however, fault past me for not realizing that they only turned themselves off due to a setting and not some kind of hardware failure. Oops. Once I discovered the battery-saving setting (that for some reason turned off the headset even mid-sentence, which shouldn't happen, really), I allowed myself to appreciate these relatively affordable gaming headphones. First of all, the microphone. I run a guild in World of Warcraft, which means I do a whole lot of chatting over Discord. One of my guild members is particularly picky when it comes to microphones, and he's complained about the quality of mine pretty much whenever I wasn't using my ModMic setup. He hated my Razer headset, and he had no kind words for my HyperX, either. The first time I tried the Arctis Nova 7, my incredibly picky friend said, 'Wow, you finally have a proper headset.' I've heard recordings of my own voice more often than I care to admit, and I have to say that the Arctis Nova 7 really delivers on the microphone quality. There are better standalone mics out there, but from all the gaming headsets I've tried, this is by far the best. As time went on, I started to appreciate the Arctis Nova 7 for more than just microphone quality. This is one comfy pair of cans, which I often wear for several hours and don't have any ear pain — especially important for us glasses wearers. The sound quality is solid in games and alright for music, but honestly, I do take these off and put on my Bose QuietComfort for that. For a gaming headset, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 has everything I could really want. It sounds good, the microphone is pretty great, it's comfortable, and it's wireless with a decent battery life. I wouldn't mind if it was hot-swappable, but I can deal with the charging. Still not a fan, but kind of a convert Do I love gaming headsets now, then, since I grew to love the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7? No, but I realize their value. Gaming headsets are easy, much easier than diving deep into audiophile-grade products and sinking hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars into this hobby. Keep that money for your PC instead. The only problem is that there are still loads of less-than-great gaming headsets out there, which is why I always make sure to tell my friends about this particular headset. It's shockingly solid at just $182, and from my experience, it's not a lot worse than the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro. If anything, I like the microphone on this one better than on the Nova Pro, and again, I am a picky beast. If you're a gamer who just wants something that does the job and doesn't make your Discord buddies burst into tears every time you speak, this is it — and then some. I've spent two years with the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7, and I now know that I'd buy it myself if something happened to my current pair. Check it out — it's worth the price.

Kamala Harris' New Book Gets Brutal Reception
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The announcement by Kamala Harris, former vice president, that she is publishing a book about her failed 2024 presidential campaign, titled 107 Days, with reference to the period she spent vying with Donald Trump, has been panned by conservative critics. Newsweek contacted Harris for comment on Friday via email outside of regular office hours. Why It Matters Harris became the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee in August after Joe Biden dropped out of the race amid concern within his party over the then-president's age and cognitive state. However, Harris went on to lose the 2024 presidential election, picking up 226 Electoral College votes against 312 for Trump. On Wednesday, Harris announced she won't run to be governor of California in 2026, sparking speculation she could be considering a second White House bid in 2028. What To Know Harris announced she has written on a book about the 2024 presidential campaign, to be published by Simon & Schuster and titled 107 Days, on Thursday in a post on her X account. The former vice president said: "Since leaving office, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on those days and with candor and reflection, I've written a behind-the-scenes account of that journey." What the world saw on the campaign trail was only part of the story. My new book is a behind-the-scenes look at my experience leading the shortest presidential campaign in modern history. 107 Days is out on September 23. I can't wait for you to read it: — Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) July 31, 2025 The news received a mixed reaction online, with conservatives in particular highly critical, though some commentators did say they were looking forward to reading it. During an appearance on CNN's The Source With Kaitlan Collins, the network's senior reporter Edward-Isaac Dovere said: "And there's going to be a book tour and one of the things that I talk to people who have been dealing with it with her is that she really struggles with what she is going to say about Joe Biden." In an X post response to Harris, White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson said: "Writing a memoir about being a loser is a choice." Writing for The New York Post, columnist Kirsten Fleming said Harris's book would be a "diary of defeat," adding: "Anything written on her ill-fated attempt to win the White House should be a grim autopsy on a spectacularly bad campaign with a historically terrible candidate." The cover for Kamala Harris' upcoming book '107 Days' (left) and Harris speaking at the State of the People POWER Tour opening ceremony on June 6, 2025 in Los Angeles, California (right). The cover for Kamala Harris' upcoming book '107 Days' (left) and Harris speaking at the State of the People POWER Tour opening ceremony on June 6, 2025 in Los Angeles, California (right). Mario Tama/Simon & Schuster/Getty Stephen Miller, the current U.S. Homeland Security adviser, wrote on X: "What is Kamala Harris' book even going to be about? All the interviews she refused to do? Why she chose Governor Jazz Hands over the Jewish guy? 4 chapters on her endorsement from Dick Cheney?" Harris picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate over Josh Shapiro, the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania. On popular Fox News show The Five, presenter Lisa Kennedy said: "I argue the only book that's worth reading is if she's actually honest about the enemies she will claim tanked her chances." Former Democratic Congressman Harold Ford Jr. agreed: "If she's able to get a lot of book sales hurray and good for her, but I hope to your point she honestly confronts some of the things we all saw happening in that campaign, and if it does nothing more, it will give the next nominee on the Democratic side some lessons about what he or she should do and mainly what they should not do." However, conservative commentator Jesse Watters was more positive, suggesting the book could push Harris toward a 2028 White House run. He said: "In October/September the book publishes … and then she does the book tour and the tour reconnects her with the American people, the crowds, the donors and kind of launches her toward the next year's midterms and then she'll campaign for people and she'll raise money for them and she hopes the Democrats win the midterms and that kind of sets her up." On his popular The Breakfast Club podcast, Charlamagne tha God, real name Lenard McKelvey, said: "I don't know if she should run again, but I'd definitely like to see her write a book, I definitely would like to see her start a podcast and just build a real connection with people." What People Are Saying Simon & Schuster Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Karp said: "107 DAYS captures the drama of running for president better than just about anything I've read. It's one of the best works of political nonfiction Simon & Schuster has ever published. It's an eyewitness contribution to history and an extraordinary story." Senior Vice President and Publisher of 37 Ink Dawn Davis said: "There is so much to be gleaned from these pages—to read the book is to be a fly on the wall as critical decisions were made and key team members tapped, all in such a dramatic moment in our history, all in just 107 days." Speaking to CNN's Kaitlan Collins about Harris in 2024, David Axelrod, formerly Barack Obama's chief campaign strategist, said: "It's clear that you read her statement, that she is setting herself up to run." Appearing on MSNBC Susan Page, the Washington D.C. bureau chief for USA Today, said: "Democrats historically have not been interested in nominating again someone who ran, got the nomination and failed." What Happens Next Simon & Schuster said that Harris's book is scheduled for publication on September 23, 2025.
