Brighton sign Belgium defender De Cuyper
De Cuyper, 24, helped Brugge win the Belgian Pro League in 2023-24, and the Belgian Cup last season. He made his Belgium debut in June 2024, and has earned 10 international caps, scoring three goals.
"He has a great reputation for creativity and has shown his ability across different positions, although we primarily see him challenging for a left-back spot with us," Brighton coach Fabian Huerzeler said in a statement.

Soccer-Bonmati's health remains priority, Tome says ahead of Belgium game
FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - UEFA Women's Euro 2025 - Group B - Spain v Portugal - Stadion Wankdorf, Bern, Switzerland - July 3, 2025 Spain's Aitana Bonmati REUTERS/Denis Balibouse/File Photo (Reuters) -Spain's twice Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati is keen to start against Belgium on Monday at the Women's Euros, but manager Montse Tome is leaning on the side of caution a week after the midfielder was released from hospital after viral meningitis. The 27-year-old played the final nine minutes in the world champions' 5-0 thrashing of Portugal on Thursday, and was itching to play a bigger role. "I'm ready for 90 minutes and more," the Barcelona player said in an interview with RTVE. "You know my mentality and my ambition; if I'm healthy, I'm never going to complain." Bonmati was frustrated at spending most of the Portugal game on the bench, Tome said, stressing that her health was the main consideration. "She has a very high mental capacity. She's super focused in the tournament," Tome told reporters on Sunday. "It's a pity she was sick at the beginning. We were afraid at the beginning, when we knew what she had, but she recovered very quickly. "The other day, talking to the medical services, she played what she could play, because priority was her health. "That's the line we will follow. Aitana is available (on Monday), and we will decide what the game, the team needs and what's most suitable with all the information we have. "But the positive thing is that she's fine, and she recovered." Spain goalkeeper Cata Coll will also be available against Belgium, Tome said, after being ill with what Spanish media reported was tonsillitis. "We'll decide if she'll be playing or not. I think the Belgium coach (Elisabet Gunnarsdottir) is wondering if she's playing or not, but we're not giving any additional information," Tome said. "But the positive thing is that she is improving, and that what she has is not serious." Spain, who have never won the Women's Euros but are favourites in Switzerland, top Group B, while Belgium are third having lost their opener 1-0 to Italy. Arsenal sign Spain midfielder Zubimendi
LONDON: Arsenal today announced the signing of midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad after they reportedly triggered his £51 million (RM293 million) release clause. Euro 2024 winner Zubimendi had previously been a target for Liverpool and was also linked with Real Madrid. "This is a huge moment in my career," said the defensive midfielder, who is understood to have put pen to paper on a five-year deal. "It's the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are. "I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me. They have shown their potential recently and the best is yet to come." The BBC reported the deal is worth almost £60 million, with Arsenal opting to pay more than the release clause in order to spread the cost of the fee. Zubimendi, 26, made 236 appearances in all competitions for Sociedad after graduating from the club's academy and has played 19 times for Spain. He will reinforce manager Mikel Arteta's midfield options after Thomas Partey's contract expired and Jorginho left the club. Zubimendi's arrival paves the way for Arsenal's record-signing Declan Rice to play a more attacking midfield role alongside captain Martin Odegaard. "Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team," said Arteta. "He will fit in really well and he has all the attributes to be a key player for us." Zubimendi is Arsenal's second signing of the summer transfer window after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga joined from Chelsea as they seek to improve on three consecutive second-placed Premier League finishes. The Gunners are also expected to complete the signing of midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford. Attention will now turn to the forward line as Arsenal try to see off Liverpool and Manchester City and claim a first league title since 2003/04. Arteta's men had to cope without a natural striker for much of last season due to long-term injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Soccer-Arsenal sign Spain midfielder Zubimendi from Real Sociedad
Soccer Football - Nations League - Final - Portugal v Spain - Allianz Arena, Munich, Germany - June 8, 2025 Spain's Martin Zubimendi celebrates scoring their first goal REUTERS/Annegret Hilse (Reuters) -Arsenal have signed defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad on a long-term contract, the Premier League club said on Sunday as the club reinforced a key position weakened by departures last month. Financial details were not disclosed but British media reports said the 26-year-old had a 60 million euros ($70.67 million) release clause at Sociedad where he had a contract until 2027. Zubimendi is Arsenal's second recruit in the close-season after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen a squad that can get over the line in the title race after finishing runners-up in the last three Premier League seasons. "This is a huge moment in my career. It's the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are," Zubimendi said in a statement. "I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me. They have shown their potential recently and the best is yet to come." Zubimendi's arrival is a welcome reinforcement for Arsenal in midfield after Jorginho and Thomas Partey left at the end of their contracts last month. Renowned for his mobility, his deep-lying playmaking skills as well as his defensive nous, Zubimendi will give Arsenal's midfield a measure of steel while also controlling the tempo in the role of a number six. His arrival would potentially allow Declan Rice, Arsenal's player of the season, to play in an advanced role alongside skipper Martin Odegaard. With Spain, Zubimendi won the European Championship in 2024, coming on for the injured Rodri in the final to help secure the trophy, while he also scored in the Nations League final earlier this month when they lost to Portugal on penalties. Getting Zubimendi on board early would also give Arteta time to work with him in pre-season ahead of a tough opening spell in the Premier League next season. Arsenal play Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United in their first six games of the campaign.
