Fatehabad: 2 held for rape as minor girl dies by consuming poison

The girl's mother said that her daughter complained of stomach ache and vomiting on June 18 and when asked her, she said that a man staying in the neighbourhood was raping her for the last several months.
'My daughter told me that the accused man's aunt was also involved in the crime. The duo threatened her with dire consequences if the incident was shared with anyone. The accused man's aide was also involved. On June 18, my daughter consumed poisonous substance, following which she was rushed to Civil Hospital, Tohana from where she was referred to Maharaja Agrasen Medical College. She died on Sunday evening,' she complained.
The girl's uncle alleged that the woman invited his niece to her home in September last year and offered her a spiked drink.
'Then, the woman's nephew and others raped her. The woman's nephew, a labourer has been raping the minor girl for the last several months and threatening her with death, if she revealed the ordeal to anyone. She died because she couldn't face the social trauma,' he added.
He alleged that the police had failed to act in this case in the last four days.
Fatehabad superintendent of police (SP) Siddhant Jain said that two persons have been arrested in connection with the minor girl's rape case.
'We have started an investigation into the case and we will arrest others, if their involvement is found. The accused were booked under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and rape charges,' the SP added.

Man arrested for raping minor for over 2 years
Kendrapada: A 22-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a minor girl for over two years and forcing her to undergo abortion in Jajpur district, police officials said. The arrest comes after the 17-year-old girl filed an FIR on Saturday, accusing the man of sexually exploiting her under the false promise of marriage. According to the complaint, the accused even forced her to terminate her pregnancy. "Based on the girl's complaint, we launched an investigation and apprehended the accused," investigation officer Prakash Kumar Sahoo said. The accused has been charged under multiple sections of BNS, including Section 69 (sexual intercourse under false promise of marriage), Section 70(2) (rape of a minor) and Section 89 (causing non-consensual miscarriage). Additional charges have been filed under Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, Sahoo added. The accused was produced before the Jajpur court which rejected his bail application and remanded him to judicial custody.

Book on POCSO Act released in Madurai
Madras High Court Judge Justice L. Victoria Gowri on Sunday released a book raising awareness about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Tamil and Braille. The book was written by Advocate K. Samidurai. The event was organised by Indian Association of lawyers and Thuimai Vizhigal Arakattalai. Justice Victoria Gowri said there was a need to create awareness about the provisions of the POCSO Act. The provisions of another Act that also needed awareness was the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, she said. Ignorance of law was no excuse, she said, adding that more such books need to be published to create an awareness among the public. People with social interest and social responsibility should unite and work towards bringing a change in society, she said. She appreciated the efforts taken by the author Advocate Samidurai and said the question and answer format in the book made it easier for people to understand. Senior Consultant Psychiatrist C. Ramasubramanian said the book was an important one and should be kept in schools to create awareness about the Act. The language used was simple and will help the readers, he said, adding that the Act was a tool to help the children and their families. Madurai Government Law College Principal P. Kumaran urged the people to read the book. He said self discipline was important and advised the students not to get influenced by the contents on social media. Advocate Samidurai thanked the dignitaries and provided free copies of the book to government schools in Madurai. He said the book will be distributed to other educational institutions.

Eight caught for series of house break-ins, temple thefts
Rajkot: The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Amreli arrested eight members of a gang involved in a series of house break-ins, temple thefts, and loot cases. The police have recovered stolen property worth Rs 3.16 lakh, including cash, silver ornaments, vehicles, and burglary arrested accused, all natives of Alirajpur in Madhya Pradeshm have confessed to committing 11 offences, including loot, house break-ins, and temple thefts. Amreli LCB PI V M Koladra told TOI that the gang was active in property-related crimes across Amreli district. All eight were working as farm labourers in Babra and Savarkundla talukas of the district. Among the arrested, the mastermind has been identified as Mutiyarsing alias Mukesh Indarsing Dawar. For the past three years, he had been working in various parts of Amreli as a labourer, while simultaneously planning thefts. He, along with his brother and accomplices, would conduct reconnaissance during the day and night using motorcycles, targeting locked homes and temples. The gang would deploy two to three members as lookouts during thefts. Using iron rods and pincers, they would break into homes and temples by damaging grills and locks. If confronted during a theft, the accused were prepared to assault them. Police say the gang has been involved in such crimes since 2023. One of the accused, Chimman alias Rakesh Bangdiya, has a past record involving kidnapping and charges under Pocso. An offence was registered against him at Morbi Taluka police station in 2021. During interrogation, the accused admitted to committing six thefts in 2025 across Babra, Vadia, and Amreli Rural police station jurisdictions.
