Garage worker crushed by falling car while taking his break
Liverpool Magistrates' Court this week heard how the man suffered multiple serious fractures in the incident at Car Spa & Tyres Ltd on Marvin Street, Kensington on November 23, 2022, the Liverpool Echo reported.
Mohammed Hamad, 56, from Toxteth, was working as a mechanic at the Marvin Street premises of Car Spa & Tyres Ltd at the time.

He was working on a vehicle which had been raised on a two-post lift but neither swivel arm on one of the lifting columns was locked into position.
As Mr Hamad took a break to pray, the car fell from the lift, crushing him beneath and causing multiple serious fractures.
He was taken to Aintree Hospital, where he was found to have a broken leg, three broken bones in his spine, five broken ribs and a broken pelvis.
Mr Hamad spent four months in hospital because of his injuries. He has been left highly dependent upon his wife, and others, to carry out even simple daily tasks. It is unlikely he will be able to work again.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that Car Spa & Tyres Ltd, had failed to put in place a safe system of work, or to sufficiently train their staff, in the proper, and safe operation of the lifting equipment.
The company was found guilty by the jury of breaching regulation 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. It was fined £40,000 and ordered to pay £20,000 in costs at a hearing at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on June 25.
After the hearing, HSE inspector David Bellis said: "This was a very serious incident, and it is fortunate nobody was killed as a result.
"If Mr Hamad had been suitably trained in the use of the two-post lift, the company had a suitable system of work in place and the swivel arms had been positioned correctly and locked into place this incident would have been avoided.
"The HSE take all accidents seriously, especially those that could have been easily prevented, and will not hesitate to prosecute, whenever it is appropriate'.
The prosecution was brought by HSE enforcement lawyer Karen Park and paralegal officer Gabrielle O'Sullivan. The ECHO has approached Car Spa & Tyres Ltd for comment.

Scottish airport fined £144,000 for failures that led to death of employee
The company that runs Glasgow Prestwick Airport has been fined more than £144,000 for failures that led to a member of airport staff falling to his death when a guardrail gave way. Joseph Dempsey, an experienced member of the airport's ground handling team, died in the incident on January 11 2023. The 59-year-old had been preparing to unload cargo from an aircraft using a pallet loader. He had positioned the loader alongside the aircraft and was repositioning a guardrail when it suddenly gave way and he fell to the tarmac some 10 feet (three metres) below. Mr Dempsey's colleagues immediately went to his assistance and paramedics attempted CPR and advanced life support. However, these efforts proved unsuccessful and Mr Dempsey was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that one of the guardrail posts had completely fractured, and that there were visible signs of significant corrosion, discolouration and flaking white paint around the area. At Ayr Sheriff Court on June 25, Glasgow Prestwick Airport Ltd pled guilty to a breach of health and safety legislation, having failed to ensure the pallet loader was maintained and in good repair. At the same court on Thursday, the company was fined £144,050, including a victim surcharge of £10,050. Debbie Carroll leads on health and safety investigations for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS). Speaking after the sentencing, she said: 'Joseph Dempsey lost his life in circumstances which could have been avoided if Prestwick Airport had in place a suitable and adequate maintenance and inspection programme to ensure the equipment he was using was in a good state of repair. 'This prosecution should remind duty holders that a failure to fulfil their obligations can have fatal consequences and they will be held accountable for this failure.' Metallurgical examination of the guardrail posts carried out during the investigation found differences in chemical composition, manufacturing, and wall thickness which indicated the posts were manufactured from two different tubing sections. The HSE found these welded sections were not a feature of the manufacture's original design, and appeared to have been modified while the loader was under the ownership of Prestwick Airport. The investigation also found the welds on both the guardrail posts contained defects which would allow moisture in, creating a corrosive environment and speeding up deterioration. It was also found that the maintenance programme in place at the time did not cover the parts of the guardrail where failure or deterioration could lead to health and safety risks. Graeme McMinn, HM principal inspector of health and safety, said: 'Employers have an absolute legal duty to ensure that equipment they use at work is maintained in an efficient state and in good repair and full working order. 'This incident is a tragic reminder of what can result when that does not happen.' Since the incident, Prestwick Airport has undertaken a review of all work at height, and checks of the guardrails on the platform loaders have been made part of the regular service and inspection schedule.

A police investigation into controversial Belfast rap trio Kneecap following their performance at this year's Glastonbury Festival has been dropped, with authorities citing a lack of evidence to pursue charges. Police taking no further action after investigation into Kneecap's Glastonbury show
Avon and Somerset Police will take no further action over Kneecap's performance at Glastonbury. The force announced on 30 June that officers had launched a criminal investigation following the performance, as well as investigating comments by punk-rap duo Bob Vylan, at the festival. It said they it was probing a possible public order incident and that a senior detective had been appointed to lead the investigation. However, on Friday, it was announced that the force would be taking no further action against Kneecap. In a statement, the force added that it was still investigating Boy Vylan's performance. It comes as Kneecap also posted a photograph on Instagram, which the band said was an email from the force, announcing that "no further action" would be taken following a "review of the evidence". In their post, the band said: "We played a historic set at Glastonbury. Whole area closed an hour before due to crowds. A celebration of love and solidarity. A sea of good people at the world's most famous festival. "Shortly afterwards we learn of an active police investigation. An investigation that followed after the Prime Minister himself said it 'was not appropriate' we played Glastonbury. "Walk off stage to the rapturous sounds of good people and into the creaking scheming sounds of the establishment. "This 'investigation' was reported across the world's media often with wildly misleading headlines. "Every single person who saw our set knew no law was broken, not even close... yet the police saw fit to publicly announce they were opening an investigation." The band added: "After the media damage is inflicted and seen by millions of eyes - you receive a private email to say there's no evidence and no action - that is seen by two people only.
