Caitlin Clark usurped as MVP betting favorite after injury
The 2025 WNBA season is underway with many different storylines already taking charge. One of the biggest of the season so far is Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark going down with a quad injury.

The reigning Rookie of the Year winner and global sensation began the season as the betting favorite over A'ja Wilson and Napheesa Collier to win MVP this season. Now, after Clark's injury, FanDuel has a new betting favorite.
Minnesota Lynx star, Collier, is now ahead of both Clark and Wilson to win the award. Collier is undoubtedly a Top 5 player in the W. She led the Lynx to the WNBA Championship last season, and even though they lost to the New York Liberty, she established herself as a superstar in this league.
Collier's odds to win MVP sit at a strong -210. The sportsbooks are expecting her to hold on and continue her hot start throughout the season. Collier is averaging 29.5 points, 7.3 rebounds. 2.5 assists, 1.8 steals, and shoots 56.2% from the field. She is also shooting 53.8% from beyond the arc and 93.5% from the free throw line. More importantly, the Lynx are 4-0 and look very strong this season. Collier recently scored 33 points and grabbed 11 boards in the 76-70 win over the Connecticut Sun.
Clark's MVP odds dropped to +340, and Wilson rounds out the top three at +650. Wilson, who is a three-time MVP, is expected not to defend her award. Wilson is still playing at a very high level, but the Las Vegas Aces are 2-2, and Wilson is averaging just 20.8 points per game. She adds 10.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 steals.

Clark will aim to pick up where she left off when she returns from her quad injury. On the season, the point guard is averaging 19 points, 6.0 rebounds, 9.3 assists, and shoots 40.3% from the field.

After winning the NBA championship, they have the rare opportunity to bring back basically the same roster — minus some changes at the bottom of the depth chart. As the Thunder continue to enjoy their summer, they're only a few months away from defending their top spot. Let's project what OKC's starting lineup could look like when it receives its ring on Opening Night: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander This is easy. Gilgeous-Alexander is the Thunder's franchise player. He had one of the greatest individual seasons ever. He brought home the MVP, Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP trophies. He also won the scoring title. The 27-year-old is one of the best players in the league. OKC's title window starts and stops with him. Lu Dort One of the longest-tenured Thunder players, Dort is fresh off a career season. He was named to his first All-Defensive Team. He's one of the league's best one-on-one defenders. The undrafted player has also developed into a legitimate outside shooter. He's been a fixture in the starting lineup for years now. Jalen Williams Another easy choice. Williams ascended into one of the NBA's best players last season. He had a career year as a first-time All-Star, All-NBA and All-Defense Team member. The 24-year-old is a walking efficient 20-plus points and an underrated defender. His trajectory should continue to rise after he stepped up as OKC's second-best player in the playoffs. Chet Holmgren Another easy choice. Injuries have limited Holmgren to playing only about half of his available games in his first three seasons. That said, he's easily the Thunder's best defender when he's on the floor. The 23-year-old has shown promise as a scorer over the years. But what he brings as a rim protector is worthy enough of the contract extension he signed this past summer. Isaiah Hartenstein As was said at the top — don't fix what's not broken. The Thunder have four permanent starters with a fifth spot up for grabs. Sometimes it's Hartenstein, other times it's somebody like Cason Wallace. But the Thunder stuck with the double-big lineup throughout the playoffs, sans a few NBA Finals games. It was the starting lineup that won them both of their Game 7s. It should be the same starting lineup to open next season.

Caitlin Clark has been sidelined with a right groin injury since the final minute of the Indiana Fever's 85-77 July 15 win over Connecticut from TD Garden in Boston. Unfortunately, Fever fans won't be seeing Clark on Sunday afternoon against the Chicago Sky (7-17). The Indy Star's Brian Haenchen reported on Saturday evening that Clark had officially been ruled out against Chicago. Including the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final, it's now the 14th game that Clark will have missed due to injury this season. On Thursday, the Indiana Fever released a statement on Clark's injury status and her progression. "Caitlin Clark underwent further medical evaluations earlier this week, which confirmed that no additional injuries or damage were discovered. "Clark will continue working with the medical team on her recovery and rehabilitation, with the priority on her long-term health and well-being. There is no timetable available for her return," the Fever's statement read. Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game on 36.7% field goal shooting and 27.9% 3-point accuracy. Fans may not get to see Chicago star forward Angel Reese either. Reese (back) is listed as questionable in the availability report released Saturday night. Chicago (7-17) ruled out Ariel Atkins (leg), Moriah Jefferson (leg) and Courtney Vandersloot (knee) for Sunday game's game with Hailey Van Lith (ankle) and Michaela Onyenwere (knee) also listed questionable.
