WATCH: Virat Kohli says tennis players face as much pressure as cricketers in 'India vs Pakistan' clash
Former India captain Virat Kohli is enjoying a quiet summed in England. After announcing his retirement from Test cricket in May this year, Kohli has been sitting on the sidelines while the Indian cricketers face off against England in a five-match Test series for the 'Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy'.
Kohli along with wife Anushka Sharma and children Vamika and Akaay are currently in London since the end of the IPL 2025 season. Kohli's RCB ended a 18-year wait to finally win the IPL title this year.
The RCB batter turned up at Wimbledon on Monday along with his Bollywood star wife Anushka Sharma to Novak Djokovic's Round of 16 match on the Centre Court against Australia's Alex de Minnaur. After the match Kohli spoke to Star Sports expert commentator and legendary Indian tennis player Vijay Amritraj.
During the chat, Kohli said that tennis players face as much pressure in every single game what cricketers go through in a India vs Pakistan contest.
'I think the experience (in pressure situations) can be similar. But the intimidation factor and the pressure that would replicate for us in a World Cup game, a World Cup match between India and Pakistan or a semifinal or a final of the World Cup, your legs are shivering because of sheer pressure,' Kohli said during the interview telecast on 'Star Sports'.
'But these players might be facing that from the quarterfinal onwards to the final, which I think is a lot of pressure to handle. I have a lot of respect for tennis players for playing with that composure and maintaining that level of fitness and mental toughness,' said Kohli, who retired from Test cricket after 123 games. Kohli recently from the red-ball format with 9230 runs from 123 matches with 30 hundreds. Kohli said cricketers go through their own challenges on field because of the ever-evolving nature of the sport.
'Different sports have different challenges. In cricket, one of the challenges is that you have to wait for a long period, you warm-up in the morning and then you come back and wait in the dressing room, as you don't know when you are going to bat,' he said.
'Sitting there, reading the game, the situation changes so drastically. Here (in tennis) probably you have set conditions, you know what you are walking into,' he added.
Cricket offers less chances of a 'comeback', says Virat Kohli
Former India skipper also feels that cricket offers less chances to stage a comeback into the match than tennis. 'One more challenge regarding my skills in cricket – batting – is that you have got only one chance. You don't have much chance to make a comeback, you make one mistake and you clap for the rest of the day. But these guys might be down two sets and a break, but still can come back and win,' he said. Virat Kohli backs Novak Djokovic to win Wimbledon 2025
Kohli is hoping that Serbian legend Novak Djokovic wins Wimbledon 2025 to complete a record 25th Grand Slam.
'I have been in touch with Novak (Djokovic) for a while now. We have exchanged a few messages and he has been gracious and kind to stay in touch.'
Kohli also said his dream final would be between Djokovic and Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz, the two-time defending champion. 'I want Carlos (Alcaraz) and Novak in the final and probably Novak win the title because that would be tremendous for him at this stage of his career, and the whole conversation of being the greatest of all time, maximum number of Grand Slams and he deserves it,' he added.

Jaiswal's Redemption Catch, Reddy's Send-Off To Crawley, Full Drama At Lord's: Watch
Yashasvi Jaiswal redeemed himself with a sharp catch at gully to dismiss Zak Crawley off Nitish Reddy's bowling, triggering a spirited celebration at Lord's. Yashasvi Jaiswal redeemed himself on Sunday in what was a jubilant moment for India in the ongoing third India vs England Test at the home of cricket– Lord's. Zak Crawley, whose time-wasting act on Saturday evening left the Indians fuming, was dismissed by all-rounder Nitish Reddy in the morning session of the fourth day, and it was Jaiswal who grabbed a sharp catch at gully. Though Jaiswal has been among runs coming to England, he has been getting highly criticized for his sloppy fieldwork since the first Test in Leeds. But the 23-year-old didn't make any mistakes on Sunday. Crawley looked to drive Reddy's fuller delivery swinging away but ended up nicking it towards gully where Jaiswal pouched it safely. The Indians erupted in joy. While others rushed to congratulate Jaiswal, Reddy was spotted giving an animated send-off to Crawley, whose struggle in the middle ended at 22 runs. An inspired bowling change! 😍 @NKReddy07 gets into the attack & makes an instant impact to get #ZakCrawley caught by @ybj_19! 👏🏻 #ENGvIND 👉 3rd TEST, DAY 4 | LIVE NOW on JioHotstar 👉 — Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) July 13, 2025 Zak Crawley's time-wasting act on day 3 Tensions galore at Lord's in the final over of Day 3 when Zak Crawley's time-wasting antics sparked visible frustration in the Indian camp. With just one over left before stumps, Crawley took an unusually long time to take strike, repeatedly adjusting his gear and backing away from the crease. The Indian captain, standing in the slips, was seen exchanging heated words with the England opener, clearly annoyed at the deliberate delay. The incident disrupted the flow of the game and appeared to be a tactical move by Crawley to deny India another over under fading light. The umpires intervened to calm things down, but the exchange reflected the rising intensity between the two sides. FIFA Club World Cup final match: US President Donald Trump to attend with First Lady Melania
US President Donald Trump on Sunday will attend the FIFA Club World Cup final, a match that will offer Trump a preview of the globe's premier soccer tournament that North America will host next year. Trump and first lady Melania Trump will travel from their golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, to East Rutherford 40 miles (64 kilometers) away to watch the final match of the US-hosted tournament between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea at MetLife Stadium. Trump's trip Sunday falls on the first anniversary of the assassination attempt he survived in Butler, Pennsylvania, while campaigning for president. The president did not have any public plans to mark the date beyond participating in a taped Fox News Channel interview with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump that aired Saturday night. His appearance at the MetLife stadium in New Jersey, where Paris Saint-Germain face Chelsea, is very much a trial run for the World Cup final, which will take place in the same stadium next year. Trump has made it clear he sees both tournaments, as well as the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, as showpieces for what he calls the "Golden Age of America" during his second term. The billionaire Republican's close friendship with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, a frequent visitor to the White House, is also a factor in his appearance, an AFP report said. Trump has kept the Club World Cup trophy next to his desk in the Oval Office since Infantino dropped by in March. But Trump's embrace of football, or soccer as he would say, is also personal. Sporting events have made up the bulk of Trump's trips in the US since taking office this year. In addition to his visit this weekend to the soccer tournament, he's attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the Daytona 500 in Florida, UFC fights in Miami and Newark, New Jersey, and the NCAA wrestling championships in Philadelphia. The president has said he plans to attend multiple matches of the World Cup tournament next year. The president's 19-year-old son Barron is a fan, as Infantino pointed out in a press conference at FIFA's new office in Trump Tower in New York on Saturday. Asked if Trump liked the game, Infantino replied: "Well I think he does. In his first term as president of the United States there was a soccer goal in the garden of the White House.
