Bengaluru woman police officer arrested for taking Rs 1.25 lakh bribe to file false report in assault case
Savithri Bai, a sub-Inspector posted with the Govindapura station of Bengaluru city, reportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1.25 lakh to file a B report in a case where the complainant, Mohammed Younus, was accused of assault or criminal force against a woman with the intent of outraging her modesty.
A B report indicates that the police have found the allegations to be false or lacking sufficient evidence.
After Younus lodged a complaint, the Lokayukta police set a trap and caught Bai while she was accepting the bribe.
According to the police, Younus was in love with a woman for four years, and was in a live-in relationship with her. They decided to get married; however, the woman found out that Younus was having an affair with another woman.
When she confronted Younus, he reportedly assaulted her. The woman filed a complaint against Younus at the K G Halli Police Station, and the case is in the trial stage in court.
On May 5, Younus called the woman to HBR Layout to talk about the issue, and demanded that she withdraw the police complaint she had filed against him. When the woman refused to do so, he allegedly assaulted her. She managed to reach the hospital with the help of locals.
After she recovered, the woman filed another case against him at the Govindapura Police Station. The police took him into custody, and questioned him.
Meantime, Bai reportedly offered Younus that she would file a B report in the court if he paid her a bribe of Rs 1.25 lakh. However, Younus filed a complaint before the Lokayukta police against Bai.

The Oberoi Grand in Kolkata began a major restoration and upgrade project in August 2024, announcing an 18-month closure to carry out extensive conservation work. Once the first phase is complete, the hotel is set to reopen with 50 redesigned rooms and suites, fully operational restaurants, banquet halls, and improved service areas, along with a modernised mechanical, electrical, and plumbing setup. A second phase, expected to last an additional 12 months, will bring the total to 200 renovated rooms and suites. The banqueting facilities, however, will continue to remain in service during the renovation. First leased in 1938, this historic Kolkata property has long been admired for its grand colonial architecture. Work-from-home scam busted; 4 arrested for duping Delhi man of over Rs 17 lakh
New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) Delhi Police has arrested four men for duping a man of more than Rs 17 lakh in a pan-India work-from-home scam, where victims were offered to earn money by reviewing websites, an official said on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Ankur Mishra (22), Kratarth (21), Vishwash Sharma (32) and Ketan Mishra (18), lured unsuspecting victims through social media by offering lucrative online job opportunities and later pushed them into a web of cryptocurrency-linked financial traps under the guise of high-reward tasks. 'The victim lodged a complaint on May 27, stating that he was contacted with an offer to earn money by reviewing websites. 'Initially, the complainant received Rs 50 per review, but was soon persuaded to participate in prepaid cryptocurrency transactions under the promise of higher returns," DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel said. Over time, the fraudsters kept demanding more deposits on various pretexts, cheating him of Rs 17.49 lakh, Goel said, adding that police registered a case under the relevant sections of BNS. During investigation, police found that Rs 5 lakh had been routed from the complainant's account to a private bank account registered in the name of Ankur Mishra. CCTV camera footage confirmed his identity, along with two co-accused found withdrawing funds via cheque. 'Technical analysis later revealed that the fraud ring was operating across multiple cities, including Lucknow and Agra in Uttar Pradesh, and Bhopal and Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh. Raids were conducted in these locations, leading to the arrest of the four accused," the DCP said. The gang used a multi-layered system to launder money, transferring funds through several bank accounts before converting it into cryptocurrency – specifically USDT (Tether) – to evade detection by banks and law enforcement agencies, the officer said. Further probe is underway to identify the other members of the syndicate and trace the laundered funds.
