Bollywood's debate over actor salaries is heating up yet again. Veteran filmmaker Rajiv Rai, famed for the Kajol-starrer Gupt, has put the spotlight on producers, arguing they're fueling the trensd of unsustainably high star fees. On Bollywood Hungama, Rai didn't mince words. He said, 'I would blame the producers because they are willing to pay. An actor can even quote Rs 1,000 crore. It's basic demand and supply. Since there's more money in the market now, everyone's chasing glamour over substance." He criticised the reliance on star power over storytelling, saying producers often ignore the script in favor of glam appeal. 'They think audiences will show up just because a certain actor is in the film. But glamour doesn't sell alone. They don't even bother to look closely at the script." To underline his point, Rajiv Rai painted this vivid picture. 'There might be lakhs of fans gathered outside a star's home, but these same people won't buy tickets to see their film. They're not loyal. They won't open their wallet unless the content connects." Rai says a smart fee model would link an actor's pay to box office returns: 'Here's how I calculate an actor's fee: whatever I pay them, they must recover for me on Day 1. If I want to be generous, I'll give them three days. If I've paid Rs 100 crore to an actor, then the film must make that back within three days of release. That's when they truly deserve the money." He added a cheeky example saying that Ahaan Panday deserves Rs 100 crore for his film simply if he is able to bring in that money. 'So, when someone comes to me and asks for Rs 10 crore, I simply say: I'll give you my first day's collection." This argument comes as Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's Saiyaara dominates the box office. The film pulled in Rs 21.5 crore on Day 1, then rose to Rs 26 crore and Rs 35.75 crore over the next two days—grossing Rs 83 crore in India over its opening weekend. It crossed Rs 100 crore worldwide in just three days and has reached Rs 250 crore domestically in 10 days. With this, Saiyaara has officially crossed Rs 250 crore net in India and over Rs 300 crore worldwide—making it one of the biggest sleeper hits of 2025. The film is now eyeing the Rs 275 crore mark domestically by the end of its second week. Ahaan Panday is the nephew of Chunky Pandey and his father is Chikki Panday. Mazel Vyas Mazel Vyas , who was seen in the Gujarati film Vahali recently, is in a happy space professionally. The actress from Vadodara, known for TV shows like Saath Nibhana Saathiya, Bollywood films like A Thursday, Ginny Weds Sunny and Wazir, and web series like Dahaad, made her D-Town debut in 2023 with Hello. Mazel, who was in Ahmedabad recently, shares, 'I am happy to see the growing scale of Gujarati cinema. We had shot Hello at one location during the pandemic, where there were limited people around. But since then, I have seen a massive difference in the scale of our films, the production, locations, and genres we are exploring. With makers putting in more efforts, audiences are watching more Gujarati films now.' 'I owe everything to TV, but want to explore other mediums' While Mazel is grateful to television for giving her fame, she isn't keen to explore the medium for now. She shares, 'Even now, many people call me Meera (her character in Saath Nibhana Saathiya). I am grateful to have played a character that people remember even today. I owe everything I have today to television, as it exposed me to this industry and made me reach the audience. However, I used to work 30 days a month, playing the same character. 'Artistes need to go beyond what has already been done' Mazel, who was recently seen in an OTT show co-starring Suniel Shetty and Jackie Shroff , feels, 'Artistes should explore subjects beyond what has already been done. When a project or a particular genre works well on any medium, makers keep offering similar content, thinking it will have a loyal audience. But for how long can we continue watching or doing the same kind of stuff?' She adds, 'It's not just about makers, it's true for actors also. Once, after playing a character on a show, I got five similar offers. I rejected those because I don't want to be typecast. It is important for all artistes to take risks and explore things that haven't been done.' Talking about the love she gets from Gujarat, Mazel says, "It feels special to have got recognition at the national as well as international level (she has done international projects like In Bloom). However, the love I get from Gujarat, especially in Ahmedabad and Vadodara, can't be compared with anything. Fans here are like family and doing Gujarati films feels like my gift for them." Sharing her thoughts on importance of social media, she says, "Times have changed, and social media has become an important part of our lives. During audition calls, I have been told that I need to have a certain number of followers to be cast in an ad. While it is the need of the hour, I prefer being myself on social media instead of going all out there."

'I dont think acting is for me': Kayoze Irani on his return to big screens, direction, Sarzameen experience
New Delhi [India], July 29 (ANI): Kayoze Irani, who is popularly known for his role of Kaizad Sudo Sodabottleopenerwala in the superhit film 'Student of the Year', admitted that "acting" is not made for him. After a brief stint as an actor in the Bollywood industry, Kayoze switched to filmmaking with the anthology series 'Ajeeb Daastaans' on Netflix in 2021. He directed the segment titled 'Ankahi', which starred Shefali Shah in the lead role. After gaining experience in filmmaking by serving as an assistant director in Kartik Aaryan's 'Dhamaka', Kayoze decided to put his directorial skills to the test with the recently released movie 'Sarzameen'. It stars Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan in the lead roles. It is jointly produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Adar Poonawalla under the banner of Dharma Productions. While Kayoze is quite busy with his directorial projects, many fans wonder about his return to acting after his show-stealing debut performance in 'Student of the Year'. While talking to ANI, Kayoze admitted that he has no plans of returning to acting, disappointing his fans who were long waiting for his return. Kayoze said that he is more "comfortable" behind the camera and acting is not made for him. "I don't think you can see me acting again, because I enjoy filmmaking and it's what I have always wanted to do. I am comfortable behind the camera, and that is my intention. He called it a "humbling experience", saying that he never felt like a debutant among the two veterans. "As a debut director, the two of them (Prithviraj and Kajol) never let me feel that I am a debut director because they are both veterans. So when they were with me on set, they would always give me that respect. They would always take my opinion. Always listen and make me feel like I am part of them. I could stand with them and talk to them. So it is a genuinely humbling experience," said Kayoze Irani. Kayoze's latest directorial, 'Sarzameen', is currently streaming on Disney Hotstar. (ANI)
