Rohit, now focused solely on One-Day Internationals, next cricketing assignment is scheduled for August, when India tours Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series starting on August 17.
A year ago it was under Rohit Sharma's captaincy that India ended their 13 year long wait to win an ICC Trophy.
'Barbados will forever be in my veins. This is the proudest moment of my cricketing career. To lift that trophy, to be crowned ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Champions—it was surreal.
I played in the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup and we won under MS Dhoni's captaincy. And now, to win it again with Rahul Dravid as head coach—it meant everything to this group.
'We've seen heartbreak. We've come so close. That's why this one was so special. We worked and planned relentlessly—every day. And when we finally won, all the emotions came pouring out. The younger players, especially those playing their first World Cup, realised how hard it is to win one.
Nothing can be taken for granted. It was magical,' said Rohit to JioHotstar.
Nick Knight EXCLUSIVE: On Shubman Gill and absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma in England
What was going through his mind before taking the field for the final, which also became his last game for India in T20Is after the championship glory was achieved? Rohit admitted that he didn't sleep well in the night before the final and nervous energy led to him waking up much earlier than expected.
'Thirteen years is a long time. Most people don't even have a 13-year career.
So, to wait that long to win a World Cup… the last one I won was in 2007. For me, it couldn't have gotten any bigger than this. I didn't sleep the whole night. I was only thinking about the World Cup. I was nervous. I couldn't feel my legs. Did I feel nerves? Of course.
'I just don't show it—but inside, it was a lot. We were supposed to leave around 8:30 or 9 in the morning. But I woke up at 7. From my room, I could see the ground and just kept watching it. I remember thinking—'In two hours, I'll be there. And in four hours, the result will be out. Either the Cup will be here or it won't."

Former India skipper MS Dhoni's application to trademark 'Captain Cool' gets accepted
New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): Former India skipper MS Dhoni's application to trademark the phrase 'Captain Cool', which has been associated with him due to the calm demeanour that he maintains on the field, has been officially accepted and published by the Trademark Registry of India, according to ESPNcricinfo. The trademark will granted if any third party does not object within 120 days of the acceptance of the trademark, which was on June 16 this year. The trademark has been filed under the categories related to sports training, coaching, and the provision of sports training facilities and services. According to ESPNcricinfo, Dhoni had applied in June 2023 but was informed by the registry that Prabha Skill Sports (OPC) Private Limited had already registered the trademark 'Captain Cool'. In reply, Dhoni filed a rectification petition for the cited mark, alleging that the company was attempting to exploit his brand and the term's popularity. 'This is a case of bad faith registration on the part of the company, aimed at deceiving the public and unlawfully enriching themselves by trading on the name of a well-known individual,' Dhoni stated in his application. The 43-year-old's application was accepted after at least four hearings. Dhoni was last seen in action while leading the Chennai Super Kings in the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He took over the captaincy midway through the tournament after designated skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Chennai finished at the bottom of the table for the first time in 16 seasons, which summed up their disappointing season. During his international stint, from lifting India's first T20 World Cup in 2007 with a young, untested squad to guiding the Men in Blue to a historic 2011 ODI World Cup win at home and adding the Champions Trophy in 2013, Dhoni remains the only captain in cricket history to win all three ICC white-ball trophies. His leadership calmed the chaos, turning pressure into opportunity and dreams into triumphs. Beyond captaincy, Dhoni redefined the role of a finisher in ODIs. His unbeaten 183* against Sri Lanka in 2005 remains the highest score by a wicketkeeper in the format. With over 10,000 ODI runs at an astonishing average of 50.57, his legacy with the bat is as impactful as it is enduring. Behind the stumps, Dhoni was a phenomenon. His lightning-fast stumpings and razor-sharp anticipation revolutionised wicketkeeping in limited-overs cricket. Overall, he boasts 17,266 international runs, 829 dismissals and 538 matches across formats for India. (ANI)

Vladimir Tarasenko traded to the Minnesota Wild as the Detroit Red Wings plan for the future
Vladimir Tarasenko traded to the Minnesota Wild as the Detroit Red Wings plan for the future (Image Via Twitter) The trade of Vladimir Tarasenko from the Detroit Red Wings to the Minnesota Wild indicates some astute planning on the part of the pursuing clubs. The contract was exchanged for future considerations; this guarantees that Detroit will retain flexibility in the long term, while Minnesota adds to its ranks a seasoned player of winning experience. As NHL teams continue to retool rosters for the upcoming year, the movement of Tarasenko could stabilize the Wild with an invaluable playoff presence without a serious commitment on finances. Vladimir Tarasenko strengthens Minnesota Wild's depth ahead of 2025 NHL season After a season with the Red Wings, spending the full time period skating with the team for 80 games while racking up 33 points, 11 goals, and 22 assists, Mr. Tarasenko lands in Minnesota. Not in his prime anymore, his two-way play and clutch skills still count for a lot. On ice with Minnesota's second or third line, Mr. Tarasenko would provide some much-needed structure alongside scoring opportunities. After being a first-round pick by the Blues in 2010, Tarasenko has enjoyed a very long and productive career, which has now spanned over 800 games. He has accumulated some 660 points during regular seasons and has made his contribution count by adding 73 points in 121 playoff contests. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Plastic Surgeon Reveals The 1 Thing Every Woman Should Be Using Instead Of Moisturiser New Skin Discovery Undo Some of the significant highlights of his career include Stanley Cup triumphs with the Blues in 2019 and with the Florida Panthers in 2024. What makes Tarasenko particularly valuable to the Wild is the flexibility he enjoys: he can operate well in disparate systems and coaching styles. Since Tarasenko has played for five different franchises, including New York, Ottawa, and Florida, he has proven his ability to quickly integrate and produce offensively in changing surroundings. That kind of flexibility would be exactly what this Minnesota roster needs if it is to cement its identity. Currently, Tarasenko is entering the final year of a two-year $9.5 million deal he signed in July 2024 with Detroit. The contract has a very manageable cap hit of $4.75 million for the coming season. Set to turn unrestricted free agent next summer, he has a chance now to re-establish his value with the Wild and gain himself another deal, either in Minnesota or elsewhere. His leadership, scoring instinct, and playoff maturity could become important during the critical stretches of the 2025 season. The trade allows Detroit some flexibility moving forward and complements their overall roster transition. With young Tarasenko joining, both teams hope that the move works out for them in opposite yet blindfolded ways. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Global players' union: Weather issues cloud Club World Cup
Players are contacting the international players' union to voice growing concern over matches played when maximum temperature allowances are exceeded during the Club World Cup, FIFPRO said Monday. HT Image The global players' union argued intense heat should have resulted in the postponement of matches between Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid and between Chelsea-Esperance because gametime temperatures rose above the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) of 28 degrees. FIFA's guidelines mark 32 degrees as the recommended limit. Dr. Vincent Gouttebarge, the medical director for the union, said the factor is readily prevalent in midday games during the summertime, and is a concern again this week and into the 2026 World Cup. "Obviously we have a threshold where the game should be postponed and rescheduled," Gouttebarge said. "The answer is quite straightforward, of course. The threshold? It is a WBGT of 28 degrees. According to our position, these games should have been postponed to a better place in the day and, if not available (to be played later), then rescheduled." PSG midfield Vitinha scored the second goal of the club's win in Pasadena, when temperatures at the Rose Bowl hit a sweltering 90 degrees (over 32 degrees Celsius). "We felt really good, even in these kinds of conditions. It is really hot," Vitinha said post-match. "It is hard to play in these conditions, but it was even more difficult for Atletico, who didn't have the ball." Thunderstorms and heavy rain have also impacted matches. Humidity and temperature combined for a "feels like" temperature over 100 last week in Nashville before an extended delay between Auckland City and Boca Juniors. Sprinklers on the field ran during one break in play to cool players on the pitch. Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca said weather delays in Charlotte on Saturday, when the match with Benfica was paused for almost two hours, were a "joke." "It's already seven, eight, nine games that they suspended. It's a joke, to be honest. It's not football. It's not for us. You cannot be inside," he said Saturday. "I can understand that for security reasons, you are to suspend the game. But if you suspend seven, eight games, that means it is probably not the right place to do this competition. "Guys, please, don't misunderstand me. I said it's a fantastic competition. It's a Club World Cup. It's top. We are happy to be in the last eight. We are happy to win all these kind of things. But something happens, six, seven games suspended, probably the one that they decide, they need a reason, because it's not normal to suspend a game. In a World Cup, how many games are suspended? Zero, probably. In Europe, how many games? Zero." --Field Level Media
