Government to crack down on unapproved biostimulants' sale
Tuesday pulled up officials and asked whether his ministry and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) are truly serving the interests of farmers or merely helping private companies.

His strong remarks came during a review meeting on the unregulated sale of biostimulants, where he said government will not allow the sale of such products without scientific approval, with strict action being taken against unauthorised manufacturers.
Biostimulants are applied to seeds, plants or soil by farmers to stimulate natural plant growth, though use of many such formulations (substances or microorganisms, such as beneficial bacteria, fungi, and plant extracts) is not backed by verified field trial data under the existing regulatory mechanism.
Government currently regulates biostimulants through the amended Fertiliser (Inorganic, Organic or Mixed) Control Order, 1985.
Questioning the efficacy, regulation, and oversight of biostimulants being sold to farmers in many states, Chouhan directed that such products must undergo scientific evaluation by ICAR to assess their utility and said only those products will be approved that pass all parameters of efficacy.
Asking officials to prepare a standard of procedure (SOP) for strict regulations, he said, "Permission will now be given only after scientific approval and the entire responsibility for this will lie on the officials. "
The minister's directives came in response to several complaints that he received during his ground visits to many states during a fortnight-long campaign - 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' - in May-June.
"After hearing the grievances of innocent farmers, I cannot sit idle. As the agriculture minister, it is my duty to act," he said.

He reiterated that the BJP will not accept any move to provide 10% reservations to Muslims from within the 42% quota for Backward Classes. 'We will convince the Centre so that full 42% quota is exclusively earmarked for BCs,' he noted. He said the corruption among the errant irrigation officials associated with the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) is shocking. Crores of rupees have been uncovered in ACB raids, he pointed out, saying the 'inflated estimates' of the project show how the previous BRS rulers indulged in 'massive corruption'. Revanth meets Railway Minister, seeks nod to Regional Ring Rail project for Hyderabad
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy urged Union IT and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav for early approvals for the proposed ₹ 8,000 crore Regional Ring Rail project and a dedicated railway line connecting Hyderabad Dry Port to Bandar Port. Accompanied by IT Minister Sridhar Babu and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, he met the Union Minister in New Delhi on Thursday and reiterated demand for Kazipet Railway Division and also new railway lines in the backward areas of State with total funding from the Railways. He said the Regional Ring Rail project, which will run parallel to Hyderabad's Regional Ring Road, would enhance rural-urban connectivity, reduce congestion in Hyderabad's main railway stations, and boost employment and economic development. The Chief Minister also appealed for a dedicated railway line connecting Hyderabad Dry Port to Bandar Port, given its potential to streamline exports of pharmaceuticals, electronics, and food processing products from Telangana. The specific projects proposed include: Vikarabad-Krishna (122 km) at an estimated cost of ₹ 2,677 crore, Kalwakurti-Macharla (100 km) at an estimated cost of ₹2,000 crore, Dornakal-Gadwala (296 km) at a cost of ₹ 6,512 crore and Dornakal-Miryalguda (97 km) at a cost of ₹2,184 crore. During the meeting, the Chief Minister sought immediate approvals for semiconductor manufacturing projects and urged the Union Minister to expedite approvals for the Advanced System in Package Technologies (ASIP) project and the Micro LED Display Fab Project Crystal Matrix. Other requests included the establishment of a high-tech electronics manufacturing park at Muchcherla, Rangareddy district, under the EMC 2.0 scheme, and a proposal for an electronics manufacturing park near the RRR to strengthen the electronics ecosystem. MPs Porika Balaram Nayak, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Kunduru Raghuveer Reddy, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, Suresh Shetkar were present along with senior officials.

Himachal seeks urgent Central aid as rain-triggered disasters cause Rs 883 crore loss, 109 deaths
CHANDIGARH: Amid torrential rains during the ongoing monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh, the state has witnessed large-scale devastation with 32 flash floods, 22 cloudbursts, and 18 landslides reported so far. The total loss has touched Rs 883.15 crore, and the death toll stands at 109. In response, the state government has sought a special relief package from the Union Government to support the rehabilitation of families who have lost their homes, agricultural land, and livelihoods. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while speaking to the media, said that the state government would soon announce a special relief package for the disaster-affected families after due consultation within the Cabinet. He said that the state has limited resources and cannot compensate for the damages without liberal assistance from the Union Government. 'Therefore, the State has sought a special relief package from the Union Government to support the rehabilitation of the families, who have lost their homes, agricultural land and livelihood. Monsoon has just begun and there is a long remaining span of the season. So we must remain vigilant throughout its course,' he said. He added that discussions were also held with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, who has assured to consider all the demands sympathetically made by the state. He said, 'We do not want any credit and the state government was ready to meet with anyone under his leadership for the welfare of disaster-hit people.' Sukhu stated that during his recent visit to New Delhi, he took up several key issues with Union Ministers, including a request to allow the allotment of five bighas of land under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) to rehabilitate the affected families suitably. He also urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit the disaster-affected areas to personally assess the situation. 'The Union Home Minister has assured him to visit the affected areas shortly,' he said.
