Scots mum furious as stranger approaches daughter on bus with sinister question
A Scots mum is hoping to raise awareness after claiming a man asked her teen daughter if she wanted a 'draw of his vape'.
The alleged incident happened at around 11.30am on Tuesday, June 10, while the 13-year-old was travelling home from school on the X28 bus service from Deans in Livingston.
Mum-of-three Stacey Waddell, 35, says she was worried there was spice in the vape - a nickname for a lab-made drug - synthetic cannabinoid, reports Edinburgh Live.
After the worrying interaction, the mum reported the incident to police and suitable advice was given to the family.
Stacey said: "This all happened on Tuesday. She was sent home from school because she wasn't feeling well.
"A male approached her who looked around 18 or 19-years-old. He said 'this sounds a bit strange but I have been asking a lot of people - do you want a draw of my vape?'
"She said no and he watched her get off the bus. When she got home she told me everything and I had to explain to her that I had heard so many stories of people using vapes laced with spice. I mean this incident could have been innocent but I am glad she told me and didn't take anything."
Stacey is hoping to warn other parents and also spread awareness around the dangers of vaping and drug misuse due to the fear of what's inside them.
She added: "A lot of people get the X28 and X27 to school and I just want to warn people about what could be happening to children.
"You just don't know what could be in these vapes. I have a dealt with a lot in the past.
"I am always on high alert because I have a 16-year-old so I have to be aware of the dangers of drugs. It's a scary world out there, especially for bringing teenagers up.
"Children might think what they are doing is innocent but they can't see what it's doing to their insides or what it could do to their mental health as well.
"My daughter is only 13 so it's worrying we are having these conversations. I never had this when I was younger - children aren't getting to be kids anymore."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 2.20pm on Tuesday, 10 June, 2025, we received a report of a man having approached a girl on a bus in the area of Knightsridge West Road, Livingston.
'Enquiries were carried out and no criminality was established. Suitable advice was given.'

Fife councillor found guilty of sex offences involving teenage girl
A Fife councillor has been found guilty of sexual offences against a teenage girl over a seven-month period in 2023. David Graham, who was suspended from the Labour party two years ago, was convicted on Wednesday following a trial at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court. According to the indictment the offences involved sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15. The offences took place between February 11 and August 21 2023, and were committed at a variety of locations in the Fife and Edinburgh areas. The 43-year-old was found guilty by a majority of one charge under the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009. He is due to be be sentenced on August 19. Commenting after Graham's conviction, Fife Council leader David Ross said the revelations at the trial had been 'truly shocking'. The Labour councillor went on: 'This is appalling behaviour by anyone, let alone an elected councillor – and the sentence will reflect the seriousness of this case. Our sympathies go out to the young person involved. 'It is impossible to express how badly David Graham has let down his colleagues and the people he was elected to represent. 'I expect him to be expelled from the Labour Party with immediate effect' Police Scotland Detective Inspector Graham Watson said: 'Graham is a manipulative individual who groomed and sexually abused his teenage victim. 'He was well-known and in a position of power when the offending took place. 'I would like to thank the female for her assistance in bringing him to justice. 'We remain committed to investigating all reports of sexual crime and would encourage anyone affected to report it. 'Every report is taken seriously and will be fully investigated, no matter how much time has passed, with support from our specially trained officers and partner agencies.'

More than 600 suspected sex predators arrested in 15 months
More than 600 suspected sexual predators have been arrested in the last 15 months, according to Police Scotland. The arrests took place across the country between April 2024 and July 2025. It comes after the Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation unit carried out 863 investigations, 'protecting' 815 children from being exploited online. According to estimates by the Childlight global child safety institute, around 150,000 children in Scotland are subjected to at least one form of online sexual abuse. Ahead of the new Online Safety Act, which comes into effect on Friday, July 25, requiring websites to take stronger measures to protect children online, Police Scotland is re-launching its online child sexual abuse prevention campaign. Get Help or Get Caught is in partnership with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation and proactively targets those at risk of offending. Detective superintendent Nicola McGovern said: 'Children are increasingly using games, apps, sites and streaming services and living more of their lives online. 'That means it's never been easier for strangers to connect with children and on some platforms, it can take just 30 seconds for a predatory adult to contact a child. 'Online child sexual abuse and exploitation through technology is an increasing problem in Scotland and officers from our National Child Abuse Investigation Unit work tirelessly to prevent children becoming victims and we will use all means at our disposal to search for and identify offenders. 'Any measures that protect children online should be welcomed and our deterrence campaign work with partners gives us the chance to prevent abuse before it happens, by diverting potential perpetrators from committing offences.' Stuart Allardyce, director Lucy Faithfull Foundation Scotland said: 'The reasons for viewing sexual images of children or engaging in online grooming are complex, and many people recognise that what they are doing is wrong. Often, they feel trapped in a cycle of compulsive behaviour. 'Seeking individualised, anonymous, and non-judgmental support is absolutely the right step to take. 'We work with hundreds of people who are worried about their sexual thoughts or behaviour online or who have been arrested for offences involving children. 'We can help you stop and move on from offending or potential criminal behaviour, helping to protect and keep children safe.'
