Lebanese President Credits Morocco's Key Role in Historic Taif Agreement

Morocco World5 days ago
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has hailed Morocco's historic diplomatic efforts in securing the Taif Agreement.
Aoun, who is on a visit to Algeria, commended Morocco's crucial role in ending Lebanon's devastating civil war in the late 1990s.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Algiers, Aoun recognized Morocco's significant contributions to Lebanese unity and stability.
The Taif Agreement paved the way for ending one of the Middle East's most destructive conflicts.
Speaking of Algeria's 'supportive positions' toward the Lebanese stability, Aoun didn't miss the chance to recognize other Arab countries' role and efforts 'aimed at getting Lebanon out of its crises and ending its complex wars between internal and external forces.'
The Lebanese president specifically acknowledged Algeria's participation alongside Saudi Arabia and Morocco in the Higher Arab Committee that led to the Taif agreement's approval in the Saudi city of Taif.
Morocco's diplomatic leadership
The Lebanese president pointed out how the Taif Agreement transformed into Lebanon's political constitution, establishing the foundation for national peace, Lebanese Arab identity, and complete sovereignty.
Morocco played a crucial role in the diplomatic process under the leadership of the late King Hassan II, who worked tirelessly through Arab summits to help the Lebanese people overcome their crisis.
Strategic partnership
Aoun stressed that Arab nations should unite around shared Arab interests to achieve prosperity for people across the region and the wider world.
He stressed that remembering the Taif Agreement milestone reinforces the conviction that Arab solidarity remains essential for his country's strength, unity, sovereignty, and independence.
Aoun's statements echo King Mohammed VI's call for Arab unity
The statements of the Lebanese president echoed calls from King Mohammed VI for a united Arab action to overcome both internal and external hurdles that hamper their development.
In his Throne Day speech, King Mohammed VI reiterated calls for a reconciliation with Morocco's neighboring country of Algeria. 'I wish to reiterate my resolve to remain open to our regional environment, especially our immediate neighbors and the relationship with our brothers and sisters in Algeria,' the King said.
'My position, as the King of Morocco, is as clear as it is consistent: the Algerian people are our brothers and sisters; they share deep-rooted human and historical ties with the Moroccan people. The bonds of language, religion, geography, and a common destiny unite us.'
Morocco's role in the Taif Agreement stands as a testament to the country's commitment to Arab unity and regional stability, demonstrating how diplomatic leadership can help resolve complex conflicts and build lasting peace.

Mufti of Al-Quds : Aid from King Mohammed VI is a tangible act of solidarity with Gaza

On the directive of King Mohammed VI, president of the Al-Quds Committee, Morocco has dispatched urgent humanitarian and medical aid to the Palestinian people, with a focus on Gaza's residents. This tangible support aims to alleviate the hardships faced by those living «under difficult conditions and blockade», according to the Mufti of Al-Quds and Palestine, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein. In a statement to MAP, the Mufti highlighted that this generous gesture exemplifies Morocco's active solidarity with the Palestinian people during these challenging times. Sheikh Muhammad Hussein further remarked that this initiative underscores Morocco's steadfast commitment to bolstering the resilience of the Palestinians. It also reinforces the kingdom's stance as a champion of just causes in the Arab world, with the Palestinian issue at the forefront, he added. The sovereign had instructed the dispatch of urgent humanitarian and medical aid to the brotherly Palestinian people, especially those in the Gaza Strip. The aid, totaling nearly 180 tons, includes essential foodstuffs, milk, and products specifically for children, along with medicines and surgical equipment for the most vulnerable populations.

Mauritania : Was the Anbaa.info blockade driven by Algerian pressure ?

Since Friday, August 1st, Mauritanian internet users have been unable to access the news site Known for its incisive criticism of Algeria, this media outlet has previously faced sanctions from authorities in Nouakchott. «We have reached out to the relevant authorities in Mauritania to understand the reasons behind this blockage, but so far, we have not received any official response from either the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority or the bodies overseeing media and digital space, such as the High Authority for Press and Audiovisual (HAPA)», said Cheikh Ahmed Lamine, editor-in-chief of told Yabiladi. When questioned about who might benefit from this censorship, the journalist was cautious: «We leave it to public opinion to draw conclusions. However, it is legitimate to question the parties that have consistently targeted the site for its independent editorial stance, especially on sensitive issues involving certain neighboring countries», he emphasized. To recall, in March 2024, the HAPA had reprimanded Anbaa for «harming Algeria», rendering the site inaccessible to Mauritanian internet users for 60 days. The decision was justified by claims of disseminating «false information» about Algeria. In January 2023, the Algerian embassy in Nouakchott had accused segments of the local press of being at the «service of an enemy state», a veiled reference to Morocco. «These sites are recruited through visas, leisure trips, advertising, corruption, and payments intended for mercenaries of the pen, who lack both credibility and influence over public opinion», the diplomatic mission stated. Back in September 2021, the former Algerian ambassador had urged the HAPA to take action against certain Mauritanian media outlets deemed «hostile» to Algiers' positions, particularly regarding the Western Sahara issue.

Algerian Regime's Online Trolls Caught Faking US Statement to Undermine Morocco-US Ties

Rabat – Algerian regime mouthpieces are again resorting to social media to fuel their Morocco-bashing campaigns. Unsurprisingly, this time Algeria's regime online trolls revived their fraud and disinformation machine, especially after US President Donald Trump's recent strong-worded statement reaffirming support for Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara. The Algerian regime's fraud machine went so far as to fabricate official statements from the US State Department and the White House. In the past few days, Algeria's regime mouthpieces on social media fabricated a statement from the US State Department, inventing a fake name to claim that the message received by King Mohammed VI from Trump was allegedly false. Algeria's online trolls, however, failed to forge the document, leaving behind glaring typos and inconsistencies that no State Department release would contain. Looking closer at the forged document, the fake release reveals serious errors, with a forged signature as well as blatant linguistic errors like 'Amrica' instead of America.' The errors took minimal fact-checking, which was swiftly carried out by Moroccan social media, which caught Algeria's mouthpieces red-handed. The recent situation marks a pattern of disinformation tactics that the Algerian regime uses in an attempt to undermine Morocco's interests, especially as Rabat continues to gain momentum in the Sahara dossier. Over 115 countries are on a growing list that explicitly support Morocco's Autonomy Plan as a serious and credible political solution, or the only or most political framework able to end the dispute over Western Sahara. This momentum leaves Algeria's regime lobbying attempts and advocacy for separatism and Polisario's 'self-determination' narrative isolated within the international community. This is not the first time that Algeria's regime fabricated a release from the US State Department. In July, the Algerian presidency, Algeria's regime mouthpiece press, as well as the state media, fabricated a letter from Trump. Algeria's affiliated media claimed the US president had praised a 'lasting' partnership and expressed hope for flourishing ties between the two countries. However, some critics exposed the regime's attempt, noting that Trump has indeed sent a letter to Tebboune. Unlike the claims reported by Algeria's regime, the letter sought to inform Tebboune about the 30% tariffs on Algeria. The Algerian latest disinformation attempts come as the regime continues to turn a deaf ear to a direct opportunity to end tensions with Morocco. In his speech on Throne Day on Tuesday, King Mohammed VI reiterated Rabat's readiness to open a bridge of dialogue and discussion, stressing the importance of good neighborly relations to address regional challenges. Yet, as on many occasions, Algeria's regime responded with silence. However, many regional and international officials emphasized the significance of the King's appeal.
