2 friends die after car crashes into tree in Melaka
MELAKA: Two friends were killed when the car they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a tree on the road divider along Jalan Persisiran Pantai Klebang here early this morning.
Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the incident occurred at around 6.45 am and the victims were identified as the driver of the Proton Wira, Muhammad Nur Zamani Mohd Nazery, 28, and his passenger, Muhammad Haziq, 25.
'Initial investigations found that the car, driven by Muhammad Nur Zamani, was travelling from Melaka town towards Bukit Rambai via Jalan Persisiran Pantai Klebang. Upon reaching the scene, the vehicle is believed to have skidded, struck a road cone, spun out of control, and crashed into a tree on the road divider,' he said in a statement today.
'As a result of the accident, both victims sustained severe injuries to the head, body, and arms, and were pronounced dead at the scene.
He added that the bodies have been sent to Melaka Hospital for post-mortem, while the vehicle has been taken to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (PUSPAKOM) for further assessment.
Meanwhile, Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Operations Commander, Senior Fire Officer I Mohd Zahery Mohd Zailani, said they received an emergency call at 6.51 am and arrived at the scene nine minutes later.
'Upon arrival, we found the driver trapped inside the vehicle, while his friend had been thrown out of the car,' he said.
He added that the situation was brought under control by 7.18 am, with eight personnel involved in the rescue operation.

Man dies in collision with parked cars
KOTA TINGGI: A man died when the Proton Saga he was driving crashed into two other vehicles, which were parked on Jalan Teratai, Felda Bukit Aping Barat, last night. The 46-year-old victim, Sazali Mohd Razak, was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe body injuries. Cops nab illegal moneylender for seizing ATM cards of victims
MELAKA: What began as a desperate attempt by dozens of private sector workers here to make ends meet turned into a nightmare when an illegal money lender allegedly seized control of their salaries, withholding their hard-earned wages since March last year. Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said police arrested two suspects on Saturday (June 28), believed to be behind the scheme that saw 62 employees forced to survive on piecemeal handouts after deductions for loans and interest. "The two suspects, aged 56 and 26, admitted they were working for an agent and were paid RM2,500 monthly," he told The Star on Saturday (June 28). ACP Christopher Patit said the 26-year-old suspect had two previous convictions for drug offences and was found to be operating an unlicensed money lending operation from premises at Taman Merdeka Permai in Batu Berendam. "The licence they claimed to be operating under was registered to a gold and jewellery outlet at a different address in Taman Peringgit Jaya," he said. He added that the police raid on the Taman Merdeka Permai premises was carried out following intelligence gathered by his team. ACP Christopher Patit noted that among the items seized during the operation were 64 automated teller machine (ATM) cards, lease agreements, RM6,200 in cash, 13 mobile phones, and a list containing the names of borrowers. "The victims are wage earners in private companies, aged between 30 and 50 years," he said. ACP Christopher Patit said the suspects confessed to holding on to the victims' ATM cards in order to collect loan repayments, only returning the remainder of the salaries once the amounts owed had been deducted. He said the suspects are currently under remand as investigations continue under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951 and Section 424A of the Penal Code, which pertains to the fraudulent retention of proceeds from the disposal of property. "We are also tracking down the main suspect who employed the two," he added.

12-year-old girl dies in tragic PLUS expressway crash near Jasin
JASIN: A 12-year-old girl lost her life in a devastating accident on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) near Jasin this morning. The victim, identified as Iris Sofea Mohamed Siddiq Khan, was ejected from her family's vehicle after a tyre burst, leading to a fatal collision. According to Jasin police chief Supt Mohamad Rusli Mat, the incident occurred around 8 am at KM 189.1 of the southbound PLUS expressway. The Toyota Vellfire, driven by Iris Sofea's father, Mohamed Siddiq Khan, 36, suffered a front right tyre blowout, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle then crashed into the road divider. The impact flung Iris Sofea into the opposite lane, where she was struck by an oncoming Honda City. She sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene. Her body was taken to Jasin Hospital for a post-mortem. Seven other family members, including her mother, grandparents, and four siblings aged between four and 11, suffered various injuries. They were transported to Jasin Hospital and Melaka Hospital for treatment. Both drivers—the 36-year-old father and the 30-year-old woman driving the Honda City—escaped unharmed. Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
