Maharashtra Punjabi Sahitya Academy faces eviction, seeks staff and new office space

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra State Punjabi Sahitya Academy, run under the Minorities Development Department, urgently needs some staff and office space. Currently operating out of a room at Old Customs House, the Academy faces eviction as the culture department has asked it to look for alternative space on rent.
'The Punjabi Academy was established in 2018 and was reconstituted around six months ago with an 11-member team to help the Academy implement schemes. But there is no staff, and recently the culture department asked the Academy to vacate the current office at the Old Customs House and shift to another rented space,' said a source.
The Academy's Executive Chairman, Bal Malkit Singh, said: 'We have requested the minority department for staff and an alternative office, and our requests are being considered positively and they will be met soon.'

According to PPU's dean of students' welfare (DSW) Rajeev Ranjan, the university has invited online applications for PG regular courses from July 13 to 28. The first merit list will be published on Aug 1, while admission process will be completed by Aug 7 and verification of the documents will be held on July 8. The second merit list will be announced on Aug 11 while admission process will be completed by Aug 14 and validation of documents will be completed on August 15. The third and final merit list will be published on Aug 18 and admission process will be completed by Aug 21 while documents will be verified and checked on Aug 22, he said. Classes for the newly admitted PG students are set to commence from Aug 22. The application fee has been fixed at Rs 800 for each candidate belonging to the general, BC-I and BC-II categories, while candidates from SC/ST categories will need to pay Rs 600 each, the DSW said. For the self-financed PG programmes, including MBA, MCA, MSc in biotechnology, MSc in environmental science and other professional courses, the online application window will remain open from Aug 13 to 29. CM asks officials to expedite work on Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur bridge

Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday inspected the site of Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur bridge over the Ganga river and reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction work. He instructed officials concerned to complete the work at the earliest. During the inspection, road construction department secretary Sandeep Kumar R Pudakalkatti informed the CM through the site plan that approximately 60% of the construction work on the greenfield bridge, which is 5.5 km-long, has been completed. Earlier, accompanied by the senior officials, Nitish reached the bridge's construction site, travelling from Karjan (on the Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama four-lane bypass) in Athmalgola block through Kalyanpur to the banks of the Ganga river. The CM inquired in details from the officials regarding the progress and the current status of the bridge construction. Nitish asked the officials to expedite the construction work of the bridge and complete it soon. "This bridge will be crucial in facilitating connectivity between north and south Bihar, easing the movement of the general public.
