Boston hotel suspends security guard after bathroom confrontation involving same-sex couple
A luxury hotel in Boston announced Tuesday that it has suspended a security guard who was allegedly involved in a confrontation with a same-sex couple inside a women's bathroom on Saturday.
Ansley Baker and Liz Victor told Boston 25 News reporter Drew Karedes that they were booted out of the Liberty Hotel at 215 Charles Street after a security guard accused one of them of being a man.
Baker said a security guard knocked on her stall and demanded to see her ID to prove her gender.
'He accused me of being a man in the women's bathroom,' Baker told Karedes.
Baker and Victor were attending a Kentucky Derby party at the hotel on Saturday when they were ordered to leave the premises.
'Literally, left on the sidewalk, both of us crying and shaking,' Victor recalled. 'We even heard awful comments as we were walking out of the bathroom.'
In a statement in response to the incident, a spokesperson for Liberty Hotel said that the guard involved had been 'suspended from their position' and that "mandatory retraining for all staff" was in order following the conclusion of an investigation into the 'serious matter.'
'The general manager is reaching out to the individuals involved today,' the statement said. 'The hotel is conducting mandatory retraining for all staff on inclusive practices and guest interaction protocols, with a particular focus on creating a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ individuals."
The hotel also plans to donate to a local LGBTQ+ organization on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia on May 17.
'The Liberty Hotel is and always will be an ally of the LGBTQ+ community and a place where everyone is welcome and celebrated,' the statement continued. 'We will continue to educate and train our team to ensure that everyone feels safe and accepted within our four walls, and guests who do not show tolerance and acceptance towards others will be removed.'
The hotel initially alleged that the couple violated a policy that forbids two adults in one bathroom stall, a claim that Baker and Victor denied.
'Once the stall door opened, and I'm the only one in there, it escalated further,' explained Baker. 'I don't think that aligns with what they're saying.'
The couple told Boston 25 News that they planned to alert Boston Mayor Michelle Wu's office about their experience.

Danville man accused of impersonating dead South Carolina deputy
ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — One man has been charged after allegedly impersonating a South Carolina deputy in late June. Just after 4 a.m. on June 29, an Anderson County deputy pulled over a truck traveling on U.S. Highway 127, according to a criminal complaint. The deputy said that Wendell Dean, 66, of Danville, pulled out what appeared to be a sheriff's badge, said he worked in South Carolina, and was previously a corrections officer in Jefferson County. Dean was supposedly seen with a Dillon County Sheriff's Office shirt hanging in his truck during the stop, the complaint noted. After making contact with both agencies, both denied recognizing Dean. Officials in DCSO said they were investigating whether the badge and shirt were misplaced or if they were stolen from the late deputy's home. The arresting officer also said it was found that Dean had a warrant out of Jefferson County. He was charged with impersonating a peace officer and booked into the Franklin County Regional Jail. Texas neighbors, United Cajun Navy deliver truckload of flood relief supplies to Liberty Hill
LIBERTY HILL, Texas (KXAN) — Outside Operation Liberty Hill, the doors to a semi trailer flew open to the sound of cheers from dozens of volunteers. The haul was three-pallets tall, and carried from Kemah, Texas by members of the United Cajun Navy, a nonprofit relief group well-versed in flood recovery. The haul was collected by members of the Kemah Police Department on the Texas Gulf Coast, roughly four hours from Williamson County, and trucked in by the United Cajun Navy, a nonprofit disaster relief organization founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Flash flooding claimed more than 100 lives in Central Texas. Here's what we know about the victims Operation Liberty Hill will distribute the supplies to anyone in need of everyday essentials, or other services like housing, and counseling assistance. Executive Director Susan Baker said it was heartwarming to see neighbors near and far come together to help flood victims. 'That's the most important part of today is letting people know this is a place they can come from help. There is hope,' Baker said. Detective Alonso Soza said his department started collecting donations Monday morning, but by that afternoon needed a second container to hold the overwhelming number of donations. Baker said Operation Liberty Hill is open to any and all flood victims that need supplies. The organization is also collecting donations for flood recovery through it's website. Anti-Israel slogan spray-painted on MIT building, vandalism under investigation, school says
Campus police at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are working with local and federal law enforcement to identify the vandals who defaced a school building with an anti-Israel slogan, the school said Tuesday. Vandals spray-painted the words 'Death to the IOF,' known as a slur for the Israel Defense Forces, onto glass doors of the Stata Center, a large academic complex at the elite school, sometime over the weekend. The graffiti was tagged with the letters DAMPL, which stands for the Direct Action Movement for Palestinian Liberation. 'The MIT Police Department is working with local and federal officials to identify the individual or individuals responsible for the graffiti on campus this weekend so that they can be held accountable for these outrageous acts of vandalism, targeting and threats of violence,' an MIT spokesperson said Tuesday. 'While we do not publicly discuss the specifics of internal safety plans, I can confirm we are taking steps beyond the investigation to further increase security on campus,' the spokesperson said. MIT Israel Alliance, a Jewish advocacy group on campus, denounced the vandalism. 'The MIT Israel Alliance is disturbed—but not surprised—by the recent vandalism of the Stata Center,' the group said in a statement. 'This incident is the latest in an Escalating string of attempts to harass and intimidate MIT faculty with research ties to Israel,' the group said. 'The spray-painted slogan 'Death to the IOF' (a slur for the IDF) goes beyond political speech; we take it as a direct threat to all IDF veterans at MIT, who make up the majority of Israeli students, postdocs, staff, and faculty." 'We have received no guidance from the MIT administration despite reaching out,' the group said. 'We hope to hear promptly how the university will address these threats and ensure the safety of all community members on campus.' The vandalism comes about two weeks after a federal lawsuit was filed accusing MIT and its leaders of cultivating an environment 'rife with anti-Semitism and fear.' The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law filed the lawsuit on June 25 in the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts. The 71-page complaint alleges that anti-Semitism soared on MIT's campus after Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and taking 250 hostages. 'After October 7, the campus became a hotbed of anti-Semitic hate and lawlessness, where student groups celebrated the murderous rampage of October 7, demonstrators shouted for violence against Jews worldwide, students occupied buildings and interrupted classes with hateful anti-Semitic chants,' the complaint states.
