Do You Qualify for Another Stimulus Check?
The topic of stimulus checks continues to spark discussions among taxpayers even in 2025. Many are curious about potential new payments under proposals from government officials or wondering about unclaimed payments from previous stimulus rounds issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Below is a detailed breakdown of stimulus check amounts, eligibility criteria, and updates on their status.
Understanding the First, Second, and Third Stimulus Checks
First Stimulus Check
The first stimulus payment, issued in March and April 2020, provided up to $1,200 for individuals and $2,400 for married couples. In addition, families received $500 for each qualifying child under the age of 17.
Second Stimulus Check
The second round of payments, issued by January 15, 2021, included up to $600 per individual, $1,200 for married couples, and $600 for each qualifying child under 17.
Third Stimulus Check
The third stimulus check, issued between March and December 2021, increased the payment to $1,400 per eligible individual. Married couples filing jointly also received $1,400 for each qualifying dependent.
Claiming Unclaimed Stimulus Payments
The opportunity to claim the first and second stimulus payments has now passed. Taxpayers who were eligible for the third stimulus payment, however, had until April 15, 2025, to file their 2021 tax return and claim the $1,400 Recovery Rebate Credit. This deadline marked the three-year period for claiming tax refunds or stimulus payments.
If you believe you missed out on any stimulus payments, working directly with the IRS or consulting a reputable tax professional is the best course of action. Remember, any unclaimed stimulus payments after the deadlines automatically become the property of the U.S. Treasury. No appeals or extensions are offered.
Speculation Surrounding a Fourth Stimulus Check
Recently, rumors about a fourth stimulus check worth $2,000 have surfaced on social media and certain unverified websites. However, there is no official confirmation from Congress or the IRS about these claims. Taxpayers should approach such information with caution, as it may be misinformation or even an attempt to defraud.
Trump's DOGE Dividend Plan
In February, former President Donald Trump discussed a possible $5,000 stimulus payment to taxpayers, referred to as a 'DOGE dividend,' during a summit in Miami. This proposal involved utilizing 20% of the savings identified by Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). However, Trump has yet to provide further details or outline specific plans for implementing this idea.
Beware of Stimulus Check Scams
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has issued warnings about scams related to stimulus checks. Some scammers pretend to be the IRS and send fake text messages, claiming eligibility for payments like the $1,400 tax rebate. Always verify the authenticity of such communications directly with the IRS to avoid falling victim to fraud.
Tracking Your Tax Refund
Taxpayers eager to know the status of their federal refunds can rely on several tools and methods offered by the IRS. Below are steps to ensure you stay informed and avoid unnecessary delays.
Expected Timeline for Receiving Tax Refunds

How to Check Your Refund Status
Online Option: "Where's My Refund" Tool
The IRS provides an online tool called "Where's My Refund" that allows taxpayers to track the status of their refunds. This tool is updated daily, and you can begin using it 24 hours after electronically filing your return.
Visit the "Where's My Refund" page on the official IRS website.
Enter your Social Security number, filing status, and the exact refund amount stated on your return.
The tool will display one of three statuses: Refund Received (processing), Refund Approved (preparing to issue refund), or Refund Sent (on its way).
Once approved, refunds processed via direct deposit may reach your bank account within just days.

Mohammed bin Rashid launches plan for achieving ‘UAE 2031 Vision'

This model further strengthens the country's global standing in terms of government efficiency and excellence, supports comprehensive and sustainable development across diverse sectors, and accelerates the achievement of targets to advance national visions and strategies. His Highness said: 'We have launched the new strategic planning cycle for the Federal Government for 2031. This plan prioritises artificial intelligence in government planning, process simplification, resource optimisation, and enhanced financial efficiency. 'While in the past government success was measured by regulatory strength and comprehensive procedures, today it hinges on regulatory agility, streamlined processes, and intelligent resource management, a significantly more complex undertaking. Tools and priorities change, but the unwavering commitment to serve the people of the UAE remains constant,' His Highness added. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed directed teams across ministries and federal government entities to begin developing government strategies based on more innovative and flexible foundations, incorporating artificial intelligence and future technology solutions to accelerate the achievement of goals outlined under the 'We the UAE 2031' Vision.' His Highness issued the directives while launching the new strategic planning cycle titled 'Towards Achieving We the UAE 2031 Vision' in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council; Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs; and Huda Al Hashimi, Head of Strategy and Government Innovation for the UAE Government. The new strategic planning cycle marks a pivotal phase in developing strategic planning methodologies within the federal government, aligning plans for governmental work with the We the UAE 2031 Vision through a more intelligent, agile, and responsive approach to change. The new cycle involves 38 federal entities and brings together key public officials, including directors of strategy, future planning, and finance. It adopts the concept of proactive strategic planning as a core component, and is built on key principles including integrating strategic planning with artificial intelligence, simplifying procedures and optimising resource utilisation, activating national initiatives through federal entities' plans, and adopting smart planning to achieve financial efficiency. In this context, the Prime Minister's Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs organised a strategic workshop attended by directors of strategy from ministries and federal government entities. The aim was to introduce salient features of the new cycle, which has been shortened from five years to three years to seamlessly keep pace with rapid global changes and ensure the highest levels of flexibility and capability to accommodate regular plan updates – enhancing government readiness and proactiveness in facing challenges. The workshop discussed the strategic importance of the new planning model as a pioneering step toward building a smarter, more agile, and proactive planning cycle that reinforces the UAE's leadership as a global model for the government of the future. It also supports the ability of government entities to contribute to the realisation of the nation's future vision. The workshop reviewed the concept of strategic intelligence underpinning the new cycle and its importance as a core component of the government planning system. It highlighted its role in enabling more effective decision-making through the adoption of advanced analytics, accurate data, and future forecasting tools – allowing decision-makers to understand change and develop proactive plans with integrated performance indicators linked to future challenges and opportunities. The workshop also emphasised the enhancement of performance efficiency and accelerating execution through the updated planning cycle model, which calls for simplifying procedures and reducing administrative requirements, enabling entities to focus on implementing strategic projects rather than daily operational tasks. Participants explored the main features of the new cycle, including innovation, integration among entities, and future readiness, by promoting collective thinking and close cooperation between strategy and finance directors to ensure policy and project alignment with national vision objectives. The workshop also reviewed the efforts of federal entities to translate the objectives of the We the UAE 2031 Vision into actionable national initiatives and strategies that contribute to building a prosperous and sustainable future. It highlighted several major strategies launched in recent months, most notably the National Cybersecurity Strategy and the National Investment Strategy. Participants discussed the importance of adoption of new models based on proactive planning and big data analysis to enable entities to anticipate changes and respond to challenges with speed and efficiency. Huda Al Hashimi, Head of Strategy and Government Innovation for the UAE Government, outlined key efforts by federal entities to translate the goals of the We the UAE 2031 Vision into tangible national initiatives and strategies that contribute to building a prosperous and sustainable future. On the occasion, she also recalled various national strategies introduced during the previous planning cycle that had actively boosted future planning, bringing along significant national benefits.

Musk should stay out of politics, US says Treasury Secretary Bessent

A day after Elon Musk escalated his feud with Donald Trump and announced the formation of a new US political party, the president's Treasury secretary said Musk should stick to running his companies. And investment firm Azoria Partners, which had planned to launch a fund tied to Musk's automaker Tesla, said it was delaying the venture because the party's creation posed "a conflict with his full-time responsibilities as CEO". Musk said on Saturday he was establishing the 'America Party' in response to Trump's tax-cut and spending bill, which Musk claimed would bankrupt the country. Speaking on CNN on Sunday, Treasury chief Scott Bessent said the boards of directors at Musk's companies – Tesla and rocket firm SpaceX – likely would prefer him to stay out of politics. "I imagine that those boards of directors did not like this announcement yesterday and will be encouraging him to focus on his business activities, not his political activities," Bessent said. Musk, who served as a top adviser to the White House on trimming the size of government during the first few months of Trump's presidency, said his new party would in next year's midterm elections look to unseat Republicans in Congress who backed the 'big, beautiful bill'. Musk spent millions of dollars underwriting Trump's re-election effort and for a time, regularly showed up at the president's side in the Oval Office and elsewhere. Their disagreement over the spending bill led to a falling out that Musk briefly tried unsuccessfully to repair. The bill, which cuts taxes and ramps up spending on defense and border security, passed last week on party-line votes in both chambers. Critics argue it will damage the economy by significantly adding to the federal budget deficit. Trump has said Musk is unhappy because the bill, which Trump signed into law on Friday, takes away green-energy credits for Tesla's electric vehicles. The president has threatened to pull billions of dollars Tesla and SpaceX receive in government contracts and subsidies in response to Musk's criticism. Bessent suggested Musk holds little sway with voters who, he said, liked his Department of Government Efficiency more than him. 'The principles of DOGE were very popular,' Bessent said. 'I think if you looked at the polling, Elon was not.' Investor rebuke Musk's announcement immediately brought a rebuke from Azoria Partners, which said on Saturday it will postpone the listing of its Azoria Tesla Convexity exchange-traded fund. Azoria was set to launch the Tesla ETF this week. Azoria CEO James Fishback posted on X several critical comments about the new party and reiterated his support for Trump. "I encourage the Board to meet immediately and ask Elon to clarify his political ambitions and evaluate whether they are compatible with his full-time obligations to Tesla as CEO," Fishback said. On Sunday, Fishback added on X, "Elon left us with no other choice." The White House did not respond to a request for comment on Musk's announcement, but Stephen Miran, the chairman of Trump's Council of Economic Advisers, defended the bill on ABC's 'This Week'. 'The one, big, beautiful bill is going to create growth on turbo charge,' Miran said.

US 'close to several trade deals before Trump tariff deadline'

The US is close to closing several trade deals ahead of a July 9 deadline when higher tariffs begin, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Sunday. Mr Bessent said a number of announcements were likely to be made in the coming days. 'We're going to be very busy over the next 72 hours,' Mr Bessent told CNN's State of the Union. US President Donald Trump would be sending about 100 letters to encourage trading partners to 'move things along' or face heightened tariffs on August 1, he added. Mr Bessent said the Trump administration was focused on 18 important trading partners that account for 95 per cent of the US trade deficit, but noted there had been 'a lot of foot-dragging' among countries in getting closure on a trade deal. On April 2, which Mr Trump called ' Liberation Day ', the US announced a series of 'reciprocal' tariffs on trading partners. Some announced levies were as high as 50 per cent, with a blanket 10 per cent tariff on all countries. The news sent financial markets into a tailspin and Mr Trump soon after issued a 90-day pause to allow for negotiations. 'I think we're going to see a lot of deals very quickly,' Mr Bessent said, denying that August 1 was a new deadline. 'We are saying this is when it's happening. If you want to speed things up, have at it. If you want to go back to the old rate, that's your choice.' Speaking in Maryland on Friday, Mr Trump said that he would notify 10 to 12 nations a day by letter over the course of the next five days, detailing their new tariffs. 'They'll range in value from maybe 60 per cent or 70 per cent tariffs to 10 per cent and 20 per cent tariffs, but they're going to be starting to go out sometime tomorrow,' Mr Trump said. 'We've done the final form, and it's basically going to explain what the countries are going to be paying in tariffs.' Mr Trump last week lauded a trade deal with Vietnam, which had been threatened with a 46 per cent tariff, and he has said the US is close to a deal with India. Since taking office, Mr Trump has set off a global trade war that has upended financial markets and sent policymakers scrambling to guard their economies, including through deals with Washington and other countries.
