Zoramthanga celebrates 81st b'day, guv VK Singh wishes good health
Mizoram
CM and president of
Mizo National Front
(MNF),
Zoramthanga
, on Sunday celebrated his 81st birthday. The veteran politician received warm wishes from governor Gen
VK Singh
, who took to Instagram to offer his congratulations.
"Congratulations and warmest wishes to Pu Zoramthanga on your special day. May you be blessed with excellent health, profound happiness, and many more years of continued wisdom and strength," Singh wrote.
Zoramthanga was born on July 13, 1944, in the small village of Samthang in Champhai district, bordering Myanmar. His political journey began in 1966, when he joined the erstwhile underground MNF.
He became a close confidante of MNF supremo Laldenga, rising to the position of second-in-command.
Following the historic Mizo Accord signed on June 30, 1986, Zoramthanga led a contingent of MNF insurgents from their headquarters in the then Arakan state of Burma (now Myanmar) to Mizoram to lay down their arms.
Zoramthanga was inducted as a minister during the six-month interim govt, where MNF shared power with Congress. Mizoram was elevated to a full-fledged state on Feb 20, 1987, and he continued as a minister, holding portfolios including finance and education.
After a decade in political wilderness, MNF allied with the Mizoram People's Conference (MPC), won the 1998 assembly elections, leading to Zoramthanga's first term as chief minister.

'Westarctica' Fake Embassy Busted Near Delhi, Has Cars With Diplomatic Plates
High-end cars with diplomatic number plates parked outside, diplomatic passports in a fake office, morphed pictures with state leaders and foreign currency -- officials of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) have busted a fake embassy in Ghaziabad. Yes, you read it right: a fake embassy. Police have arrested Harsvardhan Jain, who allegedly rented a luxurious double-storeyed building and ran it as the embassy of 'Westarctica', a micronation founded by a US Navy officer, but not recognised by any sovereign state. He is accused of running a job racket to lure people with work abroad and was also allegedly part of a money laundering network. Jain would allegedly introduce himself as Westarctica's 'Baron' and travel in high-end cars with diplomatic number plates. It is alleged that he would use morphed pictures with the President, the Prime Minister and other eminent people to curry favour in elite circles. In fact, a case was registered against Jain back in 2011 for illegally possessing a satellite phone. Officers of the STF have recovered four high-end cars with diplomatic number plates, 'diplomatic passports' of 12 micronations, documents with stamps of the External Affairs Ministry, stamps of 34 nations, Rs 44 lakh in cash, foreign currency and 18 diplomatic number plates. What Is Westarctica? Travis McHenry, an officer in the US Navy, founded 'Westarctica' in 2001 and later appointed himself its Grand Duke. Located in Antarctica, Westarctica has an area of 620,000 square miles and McHenry used a loophole in the Antarctic Treaty System to appoint himself the ruler While the treaty prohibits countries from laying claim to parts of Antarctica, it says nothing about private individuals. Westarctica claims it has 2,356 citizens -- none of them live there. Based in southern California, the Grand Duchy of Westarctica functions as a non-profit that spreads awareness about climate change and Antarctica. It has its own flag, currency and also issues titles that no government recognises. View this post on Instagram A post shared by @ Interestingly, days before the UP STF busted the fake embassy, the official Instagram handle of Westarctica had shared photos of its "Consulate-General in New Delhi". "Managed by Baron HV Jain, Westarctica's Consulate-General in New Delhi has been operational since 2017. In addition to representing Westarctica's interests in India, Baron Jain also distributes food to the local population 5 times per year, serving over 1,000 people in need," the caption read, sharing photos of the plush building in Ghaziabad and also a 'bhandara' reportedly organised by Jain.

Fidel Castro's grandson slammed for flaunting lavish lifestyle amid Cuba's economic crisis
At a time when Cuba is grappling with its worst economic crisis in decades, Fidel Castro's grandson, Sandro Castro, is drawing widespread criticism for showcasing his extravagant lifestyle on Instagram. According to El País, the 33-year-old, who has over 1.2 lakh followers, regularly posts clips of himself cruising in luxury cars through Havana, partying on yachts with bottles of Cristal beer, and hosting high-end gatherings at his private club, EFE Bar. In one recent video, Sandro appeared to mock the ongoing blackouts in Havana, where residents are often left without electricity for up to 20 hours a day. In another clip, he called Cristal beer 'medicine that must never be missing from his bar.' He also filmed himself urging US President Donald Trump to 'give opportunity and life to the migrant,' at a time when Cuba is witnessing one of its largest exoduses in modern history. Sandro Castro is the son of Alexis Castro Soto del Valle, one of Fidel Castro's five sons from his second marriage. Fidel Castro, who led the Cuban Revolution and ruled for nearly five decades, was known for promoting values of austerity, discipline, and sacrifice. His grandson's public displays of wealth stand in stark contrast to the ideals the former leader propagated. Born when Fidel Castro was 65, Sandro was raised in the elite gated community of Punto Cero in Havana, far removed from the economic hardships faced by most Cubans. According to the Daily Mail, Sandro also frequently shares videos from El Patrón, a countryside resort that charges around $100 a night—more than four months of the average Cuban salary, which is just $16.50 a month. Cuba is currently facing an unprecedented financial crisis, marked by severe shortages of food, fuel, and medicines. Inflation is soaring, and the island nation's import-heavy economy has suffered a 30% drop in foreign currency revenue in recent years, as per a Reuters report published in July. Amid this turmoil, videos of Sandro's lavish parties, where entry fees reportedly touch 1,000 Cuban Pesos and table reservations cost up to 15,000 CUP, have triggered anger and disbelief among citizens. This isn't the first time Sandro has sparked backlash. In 2021, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, he went viral for a video shot inside a luxury Mercedes-Benz. After facing online outrage, he later clarified that the car belonged to a friend and he was merely 'testing it out.'

‘Cutest application': Congress MP Imran Masood receives letter from children to clean local playground; goes viral
Imran Masood (PTI) Imran Masood, MP from Saharanpur, received a letter on Wednesday from a group of children asking the Congress leader to clean a local playground. The letter was posted by Qazi Hamza Masood, nephew of Imran Masood, on social media, who described the request as the 'cutest application.' The group of children belonged to Masoodabad Colony, a locality in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. They asked Masood to 'clean the only place' where they can play together. 'We, the children of (Masoodabad Colony), are writing this letter to request your kind attention. There is a plot in our locality which, we have come to know, belongs to you. We often play in this ground as we do not have any other open space nearby. It is the only place where we can play together. However, the ground has become dirty and unsafe because of wild plants, garbage, and overgrown bushes recently. We even saw two snakes, which has made us and our parents very worried. We love to play there but now it feels dangerous,' the letter read. 'One of the kids must have persuaded their elder sister to pen this down,' an Instagram user commented. 'So is the plot clean now show the pictures' another said. 'I am sure MP sahab will definitely work on these children's request asap,' commented another user. The post has garnered over 37,000 likes on Instagram.
