1.4 lakh applicants make it to polytechnic final merit list
The polytechnic stream, chosen by students after Class 10, has been gaining popularity in recent years, especially among high-performing students. This can be gauged by the fact that five students, who scored a perfect 100% in the 10th board exams, have applied for admission to diploma courses this year.
These five students are Ravan Harshada Hemant from Kolhapur, Sontakke Arnav Arvind from Latur, Lahane Manthan Shrikant from Latur, Sawant Chaitanya Krupesh from Sindhudurg, and Deshmukh Urvi Kuldeep from Latur.
Additionally, 9,686 students with over 90% marks, are part of the final merit list. With the final list released, students must now fill their college and course preferences between July 8 and July 10.
According to Dr. Vinod Mohitkar, director, DTE, the admission process will follow a new rule structure this year, with four Centralised Admission Process (CAP) rounds.
Candidates need to log in to their accounts to check their final merit number and make sure their personal details like name, gender, marks, and reservation category are correct. The DTE has clearly said that if anyone gets admission using false or wrong information, their admission will be cancelled.
'For the first CAP round, allocation will be based on the student's top preference. In the second round, allotment will be from the top three choices, and in the third round, from the top six. If a student is allotted any of the preferred colleges, they will be required to take admission. Hence, students must enter their preferences carefully,' said Dr. Mohitkar.
The DTE Maharashtra will conduct three rounds of counselling for admission to polytechnic courses. These admissions are for the first year of the three-year full-time diploma in Engineering and Technology programmes. The programmes are offered at government, government aided, university managed, and private colleges. Seats will be allotted to students through the CAP rounds.
The Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for polytechnic courses will follow a structured schedule, beginning with the preference-filling phase from July 8 to July 10. This will be followed by the announcement of the first round merit list on July 12, and admissions for this round will take place from July 13 to July 15.
Subsequently, vacant seats for the second round will be declared on July 16, and students can fill their preferences for the second round between July 17 and July 19. The second round merit list will be published on July 21, with admissions scheduled from July 22 to July 24.

If seats remain vacant, a second and third CLC round will follow on Aug 7 and Aug 12, respectively. Following the allotment, several students rushed to their assigned colleges to confirm admission. Of the total registrations, 31,372 students applied via JEE (Main) scores, and 8,792 through Class 12 marks. So far, 33,371 candidates have been verified, including 5,869 through e-verification. Over 1.2 lakh candidates from the Mumbai division are yet to get admission after three out of four rounds of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for First Year Junior College (FYJC). With only one merit list remaining now for the final CAP round that began on July 28, parents are anxious for their wards. In the Mumbai division, which covers Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts, 2,92,603 candidates had applied for FYJC admissions; of which 1,70,580 candidates have confirmed admissions on allotted seats, after three rounds of CAP. This leaves a total of 1,22,023 applicants without any admission yet. As the last merit list will be out on Friday, August 1, parents are struggling to reshuffle their college choices, hoping for a preferable seat allotment. 'Now we are second-guessing if we should have confirmed admission to a college allotted to us in the second round. But since that was low on our preference list of colleges, we decided to wait for a better option in the following rounds. But in vain,' said one of the parents, adding that the family hopes to have a better allotment in the fourth CAP round. Besides, there is also a section of candidates who have not been allotted any seat yet. According to the office of the Director of Education that oversees the online CAP for FYJC, some applicants are facing trouble as they have chosen all colleges where the cut-off is much higher than the student's marks. An officer said that it is unlikely that any student in FYJC remains without admission because the number of seats is far more than the number of applicants. 'But students and parents desire to take admission to popular city colleges without realising that their score is lower than the college's cut-off,' the officer added. There are 4,67,720 seats available for FYJC admissions in junior colleges in the Mumbai division. However, the total number of applicants is 2,92,603. The office of the Director of Education has urged candidates to confirm admissions if allotted a seat in the fourth list. 'There will be some more special rounds. But those will also include candidates who have cleared the repeaters exam of Secondary School certificate (SSC),' said an officer. A total of 13,000 candidates have passed the SSC repeaters examination, the results of which were declared by the Maharashtra State Board on Tuesday. They will now be eligible to apply for FYJC admissions.
