Proposal to install garbage incinerator in north Chennai should not be implemented: Anbumani Ramadoss
PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday said that proposed garbage incinerator plant (waste-to-energy) in Madhavaram zone should not be implemented as it would affect millions of people living in the area. Speaking at Madhavaram on day 4 of his padayatra to reclaim the rights of people, Dr. Anbumani said that the Rs. 1248 crore worth project which hopes to produce electricity by burning waste, including plastic, would be a disaster for people living in Tiruvottiyur, Mathur, Vyasarpadi, Madhavaram, Kodungaiyur, Royapuram, Kasimedu, and Manali. 'Within its 10-KM radius lies, Anna Nagar, Perambur, Puzhal, Sengundram, Villivakkam, Parrys, Kolathur, Egmore, Ayanavaram, Chepauk, Purasaiwalkam and Chetpet - these areas will also be affected by pollution from the waste to energy plant. This plant would release 28 times more dioxins, three times more nitrous oxide, 14 times more mercury, 6 times more sulphur dioxide and two and a half times more CO2 when compared to Thermal Power station,' he said. Dr. Anbumani added, 'The plan is anti-people. Even developed nations such as United States and other European countries have stopped operating these plants.'

Anbumani: Chennai's 2nd airport can be in Thiruporur instead of Parandur
Chennai: PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday said that the second airport for Chennai can be established in Thiruporur instead of Parandur. At a public meeting, during his third day of 'Urimai Meetpu Payanam', in Kanchipuram assembly segment, Anbumani said an airport at Thiruporur will not affect the people unlike Parandur where farmers have to be relocated. "There are 10,000 acres of salt pans near Thiruporur. If the airport is established in Thiruporur, none will be affected," Anbumani said. He said the PMK believed that Chennai needs development and a second airport. But the facility should not be established at the cost of farmers and farmlands, he said. Anbumani invites DMK to debate on caste survey
Chennai: PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday invited chief minister M K Stalin , his cabinet colleagues, or anyone from DMK to a debate on caste survey. Anbumani continued his second-day campaign as part of his 100-day rally titled 'Urimai Meetka, Thalaimurai Kaaka' (to regain lost rights and to protect our generation) from Chengalpet constituency. After walking through the streets and distributing pamphlets to the public, he spoke at a public meeting where he criticised Stalin for not undertaking a caste survey in the state. "Collection of Statistics Act, 2008, empowers even a panchayat president to conduct a survey and collect data, but Stalin says he has no authority. Whom is he trying to fool? Our neighbour Telangana conducted a caste survey based on this act, and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi appreciated its CM Revanth Reddy," Anbumani said at the rally. He added, "In Karnataka, they conduct caste surveys twice a decade. Why are you afraid of conducting a caste survey? I invite you (Stalin), your colleagues, or anyone from DMK to debate with me on whether a state govt has power to conduct a caste survey." On Saturday, however, police reversed their stand. "The letter we sent yesterday (Friday) was an internal communication for our department and has nothing to do with denying permission for the rally. We have not stopped Anbumani's rally anywhere, and it will continue. We are just monitoring the law and order situation," said an officer at the DGP office, seeking anonymity.
