In a message posted on Facebook today, Their Royal Highnesses prayed that the soul of the late Datin Hajah Salmiah Nyak Matt, 84, will be placed among the righteous and pious.
"May Allah SWT also grant strength to the bereaved family and continue to bless them with His mercy and love," read the message.
Yesterday, the media reported that Hamzah's mother-in-law died in a fire that broke out at a double-storey house in Kampung Sungai Rapat Tambahan, Ipoh, Perak, on Thursday.

Army sets up board of inquiry to probe death of commando during training
KUANTAN: The army has set up a board of inquiry to investigate the death of one of its commandos during the Seaghost diving exercise in the waters off Kuantan Port yesterday. The Army headquarters public relations cell said the board will conduct a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident. The statement confirmed the death of Corporal Mohd Haswansir Julnasir, 30, a member of the Special Forces Group (GGK), who was attached to the 22nd Regiment and participating in the Seaghost Series 1/2025 training exercise during the incident. "Haswansir was reported missing while conducting a diving exercise using a closed-circuit breathing apparatus (CCBA) at Dock Port about 12.15pm on July 3. "The army immediately launched a search and rescue operation before his remains were discovered by a navy patrol team around 10am yesterday, some 500m from the site of the incident. His CCBA diving suit and M4 carbine rifle were recovered with him," the statement read. The army said Haswansir's remains were sent to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here for a post-mortem before being flown to Tawau, Sabah, aboard a Royal Malaysian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft from the Kuantan air base at 7.30pm yesterday. "He was laid to rest at the Kampung Gusung Melanta Tesi burial ground on Pulau Bum Bum in Semporna at 2.30pm today," the statement added. The statement described Haswansir as an elite member of the Special Boat Squadron, highly trained in amphibious assault and maritime infiltration operations, which are skills required to maintain elite operational readiness. The army urged the public not to spread unverified information and to respect the privacy of the victim's family during this difficult time. Bridge connecting Pulau Tuba, Pulau Dayang Bunting in procurement stage
ALOR STAR: The planned bridge connecting Pulau Tuba with Pulau Dayang Bunting in Langkawi is currently at procurement stage and the letter of acceptance will be issued in mid 2026, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said. He said the federal project was vital for the people on the island and was approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan Rolling Plan 3 to replace and upgrade the existing one-lane bridge that was narrow and could only accommodate one four-wheel drive vehicle at a time. "The bridge spans across Selat Bagan Nyior making it a vital route and when completed will be the main infrastructure network that will provide mobility and access in any weather as well as help the inclusive socioeconomic development to boost the standard of living of locals. "The project involves the construction of a bridge that is 1.04km, including a 0.38km bridge and a 0.66km road with the Public Works Department specification of R1 (two lanes)," he said in a statement after visiting the project yesterday. Armed forces calls for greater ethnic diversity in military ranks
KUALA LUMPUR: The Armed Forces is calling for greater ethnic diversity within its ranks, as part of ongoing efforts to elevate the professionalism and inclusivity of the nation's defence sector. Armed Forces chief, General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, said that while the majority of newly commissioned officer cadets were Malay, the military remains firmly open to recruits from all backgrounds, describing the career as both demanding and highly respected. "Of the 509 officer cadets commissioned today, 466 are Malays, while 14 are Indians, eight Chinese, four Bugis, and the rest comprise various ethnicities, including Rungus, Suluk, Sikh, and Bumiputera from Sabah and Sarawak, totalling around 20. "I urge everyone, especially those from non-Malay communities, to consider the MAF as a viable career path—one that offers opportunities equal to other professional fields," he said. He made these remarks during a press conference following the 2025 MAF Royal Commissioning Parade for Officer Cadets at the Army Chief's Parade Ground in Kem Perdana Sungai Besi here today. He added that all officer cadets commissioned today not only received their commissions but also graduated with degrees in various fields that will contribute to the MAF's future development. A total of 509 officer cadets were commissioned at the ceremony, comprising those who completed training at the Armed Forces Training Academy (AFTA), the Army Training Academy (ATA), the Royal Malaysian Navy's KD Sultan Idris I (KDSI I), and the Royal Malaysian Air Force College – Officer Training School (RMAF – OTS). The ceremony also saw Second Lieutenant Muhamad Amir Akhtar Saiful Azmi named best overall cadet officer.
