This Iconic Bahamas Resort Is Hosting Wellness Weekends Throughout the Summer—Here's How You Can Join
Nora Tobin—integrated health coach and founder of Nora's Naturals, a sustainable nutrition line—has created three weekend-long retreats throughout the summer in partnership with the luxury resort. The retreats are built around Tobin's four signature pillars: Restore, Perform, Nourish, and Glow, which she's designed to integrate personal wellbeing into each trip without sacrificing indulgence.
Taking into consideration that guests are, of course, on vacation, the extent of their participation is entirely up to them. They can throw themselves into an immersive three-day retreat (which still includes plenty of beach and dining time), or they can cherry-pick activities in an a la carte format.
The weekends will be filled with small group classes, individual sessions, and seminars. 'My goal with our upcoming retreat series is to provide approachable tools to gently transform wellbeing and accelerate performance in a playful environment," Tobin said. Switzerland's largest city, straddling the Limmat River and facing the pristine shores of Lake Zurich, has long been best known for its financial clout and Swiss efficiency. But these days its cultural scene is also booming, with everything from 'blackout' dining concepts to fashion co-ops set beneath railway arches. Here's how best to take in the city in just 14 hours. 7am: Swim at sunrise at Seebad Utoquai The combination of the lake's glassy water and this swimming club has made such an impression on locals that it's kept them rising at dawn for more than 130 years. The Seebad's two-floor wooden bathhouse debuted in 1890 with curtained changing rooms, ladders directly into the lake and diving boards, and it's been eulogised ever since by bathers and those who'd rather soak up the sun on the timber terraces. Alternatively, Frauenbad at Stadthausquai is an art nouveau cabana exclusively for women's swimming (both April to October only). In the lidos along the Limmat River, bathers don swimwear produced from upcycled plastic found in the city's waterways. 8am: Breakfast at the Odeon A home for the city's gay community long before the first Swiss laws legalising same-sex relationships were passed in 1942, Cafe Odeon is a Viennese-style coffee house par excellence. Expect to see eggs served in a wide variety of styles, including, as this is Zurich, in the form of truffle omelettes with a side of Champagne. 10am: Go to a gallery Zurich is home to around 50 museums and around double the number of art galleries. Certainly the most generous with the big names is the Kunsthaus. Plenty of highlights on display come from the likes of Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso, while Switzerland is represented by Alberto Giacometti and the world's largest collection of Dada, the absurd counterculture art movement born nearby at cafe-gallery Cabaret Voltaire on Spiegelgasse. 12pm: Explore under the bridges The railway arches of the city's Industriequartier once housed hundreds of stonemasons and mechanics. These days, they survive as Im Viadukt, a future-focused co-op of fashion shops, restaurants, venues and a food market replete with bars and takeaway counters. This is where to go for a classic Swiss lunch, whether you're looking for Alpine picnic supplies (typically cheese, pickles and breads) or some bratwurst. 3pm: Get a chocolate fix There's an extraordinary array of chocolate ateliers in Zurich, but among the best are Läderach, Max Chocolatier and truffle-specialist Sprüngli on Bahnhofstrasse. These days, macarons are the speciality, while ruffled chocolate nests and bite-sized batons come topped with gold-leaf. 5pm: Time for a sky-high cocktail It's worth seeing the city and all of its church spires from the rooftops. One of the best viewpoints is at 1838, an exquisite destination bar atop the Mandarin Oriental Savoy that snuggles up to the Fraumünster and overlooks Paradeplatz, a square that's perenially popular with locals. On a clear day, the entire lake and the Alps to the south can also be seen on the horizon. An Aperol spritz or Eichhof lager will help temper any giddiness. 7pm: Eat in the dark Switzerland helped pioneer many life-changers — wristwatches, the world wide web, instant coffee. It's also the home of the first restaurant in the dark. The blackout dining concept was created in 1999 by a non-profit foundation and born to create jobs for the city's visually impaired people. The focus isn't just the surprise three- or four-course menu (it could be spätzle, lake fish, Swiss beef), but on fostering conversations. 10pm: Go bar-hopping If anywhere has an edge in Zurich, it's Langstrasse, a long street of late-night bars and clubs in the heart of the red-light district. Resistant to change, it's the city at its most unbuttoned, with Bar 63 and Ole Ole the most popular venues. For something classier, albeit with negronis on tap, try Bar Sacchi in trendy Lochergut. Getting there & around British Airways, EasyJet, Edelweiss Air and Swiss fly to Zurich from UK airports including Edinburgh, Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Manchester and Stansted. The fastest train route from London St Pancras International to Zurich takes 6hr55m, involving a change of stations in flight time: 1h45m. A 24-hour travelcard for use in central Zurich costs CHF9.20 (£8.30). Trams and buses run from 6am to 1am. When to go Zurich is worth visiting year-round. Summertime brings with it a major rise in tourism and temperatures. With parts of the country already experiencing record-breaking heat, the way we approach travel planning is important and ever-changing, and comfy summer travel clothing is a real need. So, I'm never one to shy away from religiously checking my weather app before a trip to pack the best cooling clothing and accessory options to beat the heat. After tackling 100-degree Fahrenheit temperatures in Arizona while visiting the Grand Canyon for the first time, I realized that I would need to take serious inventory of my travel wardrobe ahead of my annual summer retreat to Europe in August, including the sun-drenched shores of Hvar, Croatia, Sicily's famed San Domenico Palace, a Four Seasons Hotel from The White Lotus , the family-owned, two-Michelin-starred Rossellinis restaurant on the Amalfi Coast, and more. It's a lofty trip that requires a lot of packing consideration for the heat. My very intentional checklist to navigate this multi-city itinerary includes fabrics that drape off the body, hats with built-in mesh for ventilation, and a few of my favorite breathable and airy staples. No matter your final destination's temperature, here are some great options to stay prepared, from lightweight short sets to moisture-wicking T-shirts and everything in between. There's nothing quite as convenient as a ready-made outfit—one that already matches and does not require ironing. This linen short set makes casual days on the beach a breeze, with shorts that feature an elastic waistband, an adjustable drawstring, and deep pockets. The button-down shirt can be paired with a cute tank or T-shirt, and it's long enough to tuck in if you'd like. Whether you're aiming to get a run in or just in search of a pair of comfortable travel shorts, this high-waisted option from The Gym People fits the bill. A slit on the outer layer of the shorts provides a great range of movement while walking, and you can also store your cards in a handy hidden waistband pocket. Made with a moisture-wicking fabric, you won't have to worry about any lasting sweat stains. Pack this super chic linen set for your next pool or dinner party. A lightweight tank is a hot weather clothing must-have, and the easy fit option is naturally wrinkle-resistant and made with partially recycled stretch woven fabric. One of the worst feelings in hot weather is the slipping and sliding of sweaty feet in sandals. These no-slip, open-toe slippers from Menore are super lightweight and breathable, with a thick sole that provides shock absorption and great cushioning for long walking days. These shoes have helped prevent that dull achiness after very active travel days, and they come in a number of vibrant colors I love, including rose and yellow. For another more dressed-up shoe option, I rely on these comfortable Donald Pliner mules on Amazon. The ventilated macrame fabric provides great airflow, and the small heel makes walking long distances more manageable. A relaxed, breathable fit gives this hooded tank all the perks of a workout top for heading to the gym or walking excursions while you travel. The popular pick on Amazon comes in a variety of colors and functional pockets. I like to pair it with my favorite lounge pants from Vuori on layovers, or these Sandy River Shorts from Columbia that feature 100-percent nylon fabric that has UPF 30 protection against the sun's rays. They come in a variety of colors and are currently on sale on Amazon. $180 $125 at I fell in love with Left on Friday's swimwear as soon as I saw its range of styles for all body shapes and sizes. The Sunday Suit provides all the considerations that many one-piece suits often miss: stretchy, quick-drying Lycra, thin, buttery-soft material that doesn't trap heat on hot days, and a range of colors that just scream, " Summer is here. Get into it! ' They have a large range of bikinis, too, with full or cheeky coverage bottoms to choose from. For extra sun protection, check out their SunDays fabric line that protects from UV rays and comes in a range of styles that include a long-sleeved mock neck top. I love versatile clothing, especially swimsuit cover-ups that can double or triple duty. This pick from Dokotoo checks all of the boxes by functioning as both a swimsuit cover-up and a day dress. The material is lightweight with short sleeves and slits on each side that provide a great cooling effect when walking. You won't have a hard time finding your color of choice for your beach or pool day, too, as there are over 20 hues and prints to choose from. For beach days, I also adore this long sarong from Hunza G, with super soft fabric and UPF 50+ fabric. No matter the cover-up, my go-to sunglasses to shield from the sun are any of the eclectic designs from designer Poppy Lissiman. I'm currently obsessing over these rose-colored crimped frames with CAT1 UV-protected lenses. Sun hats come in clutch in any hot weather environment. If yours isn't ventilated, however, it can create more body heat. This unisex hat from Columbia is the answer to all your hat hiccups, with a moisture-wicking headband and UV-blocking sun protection fabric. The sun-shielding hat has an adjustable chin strap and mesh ventilation for those days when your hair and head need to breathe. And speaking of hair, hot weather always makes flyaways come out to play. I like to slick mine down with Giovanni's Styling Gel, available on Amazon. I adore this flowy, lightweight dress from Columbia, particularly for its Omni-Freeze material that has accelerated wicking for hot temperatures and UPF 50 fibers that guard against UVA/UVB rays. A stylish gathered design at the shoulders makes it an easy pick to transition from active days to casual nights, and the comfort stretch polyester doesn't require an iron. The dress comes in a number of colors, including a vibrant coral color called 'juicy' and a more neutral option called 'safari' that can match just about anything. An oversized shirt dress allows for great airflow and ultimate comfort. The striped print of this dress reminds me of the best beach summer days, exploring the nearby town while cooling off from the sun and sand.
