On today's Beyond The Gates recap:
Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Vernon is distraught as he tells Anita he was trying to spare Martin. Anita thinks he did as he's not in prison. She says he has spent the past two years with his family and earning praise for his work in the community. Had he gone to the authorities, Martin likely would have been behind bars. Vernon still thinks it was the worst decision of his life. Anita says they have to move forward. Just then, Martin walks in and says he wants to speak again to his mother.
Hotel – Ted's Room: Ted is thrilled to see Nicole at his door. She says she knows everything about the last two years. Ted genuinely seems to not understand and is even more confused when she mentions Martin's press conference. He's been in surgery all day and isn't in the loop. Nicole says she knows he has kept the truth from both her and their son all this time.
Nicole can't believe he kept yet another bombshell secret. She says her mother filled her in on everything earlier. Ted can't believe she knows the truth and is responding in this way as he did what he did for her. He knows what it's like to make a horrible mistake and want to make it go away. Nicole notes he even hid the truth from Martin. Ted can't imagine why he would tell Martin and also notes none of this situation is about her. Nicole can't believe the people she loves don't trust her enough to tell her the truth. She wonders if Ted was under orders from 'the Dupree High Command.' Ted says they were all trying to protect Martin. Nicole can't imagine her son needed protecting from his mother. She can't believe Ted would be so cruel as to keep him from confiding in his mother all this time. Nicole says the very slim possibility they would ever get back together is gone for good. They continue to argue until Nicole says she is ready to take next steps and makes her exit.
Jacob and Naomi's Place: Jacob is beyond confused about Smitty going from being his partner in an investigation to giving him the silent treatment and trying to kill the Malone story. He thinks he is covering for Martin, but Naomi can't imagine her cousin doing anything worthy of covering up. She asks what's changed and Jacob tells her about the body in the park and Martin calling off his presser. When he went back to Smitty, he completely shut down and claimed spousal privilege. Naomi, once again, says Martin is clean. Jacob reminds her that he is talking about her family…
Naomi thinks Smitty was right by claiming spousal privilege. Jacob is still beside himself when Naomi flips the script and wonders if he's thinking about whether or not his father is complicit. Jacob doesn't want to think about it but Naomi notes it's a real possibility. She tells her husband to slow his roll and remember which family he's still a part of.
Dani's Digs: Andre and Dani are basking in the afterglow of their latest romp. He asks what prompted the call and she discusses her conversation with Bill. They snark back and forth about Bill and Ashley when Dani says Andre is free to do whatever and whomever he chooses. Andre wants to talk about their future but Dani wants to stay focused on the present. Just then, Vernon calls and summons Dani to the mansion.
Bill's Law Office: Chelsea walks into Bill's office and can't believe he put them in this position. Bill is confused until he realizes she's talking about the copyright issue with her purse design. Bill admits he's been overwhelmed and promises to get on top of it. Chelsea wonders what's up as her father never lets things fall through the cracks.
Garland Memorial Hospital: Derek walks in and right past Ashley to chat with Shanice. He admits she was right about her exercise suggestions, as Ashley side eyes the duo.
Ashley calls someone and says she needs backup. Derek tells Shanice how much she makes him smile. She wonders if they're time together is simply to make each other smile. Shanice wonders if the heat between them is a real thing or is Derek just trying to push Ashley's buttons. Derek wonders if it's ok if it's both which makes Shanice giggle.
Shanice plays with Ashley by laughing about nothing. Derek is tickled by Shanice and thinks they are at the beginning of a very fun connection. Just then, Andre arrives and Ashley makes a big, loud deal about it. He wonders if she is feverish as Ashley called him to come over. She whispers and tells him to just follow her lead.
Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Dani is horrified after learning about what happened tow years prior. Martin admits it was all horrifying. Vernon says Dani and Nicole never faced anything so terrible and hoped they never would. Martin wonders if he made assumptions about those white men the way they did about them. Dani rises and goes to Martin to says she loves him and thanks him for protecting her father. With that, they embrace.
They all discuss the entire situation as Martin worries his mother will never forgive him. Dani says every decision he made allowed their safe return home. In addition, she notes he would have told his children to do the same thing he did two years prior. The mention of his children reminds him of Kenneth's recent tour through Fairmont Crest. He realizes he could lose his family for good. Just then, Nicole storms in. Everyone leaves the room so Martin and his mama can be alone.
Nicole wants her baby boy to get some sleep as she knows he's exhausted. They exchange I love yous and embrace.
Hotel – Ted's Room: Bill arrives to see Ted with a drink already in his hands. Ted pours his own as they talk about their tragic days. They take a seat and Bill notes Nicole doesn't know the whole truth about dead Kenneth.
Previous Beyond The Gates Recap:
Endings
Derek decides he's the adult and approaches Ashley for a conversation. He mentions what it feels like to keep living your life whilst trying to move along. Ashley quickly admits Andre isn't her way of moving on, just a wait to feel supportive. That being said, she is stunned by his new connection with Shanice.
Bill tells Ted to chill because the immediate threat to all of them is dead and gone. Ted isn't so sure it's ok to celebrate a death.
Martin texts Smitty and tells him about his day and how he loves him beyond measure.
Nicole has retreated back to Dani's place and she serves her sissy a drink. Nicole wishes they could go back to being teenagers and Dani is all kinds of game. She misses the time when she and her sissy were simply and unshakeable duo. Dani begs her sister to stop pushing her family away as they can help her heal. With that, they embrace.

Ozzy Osbourne taught kids to rebel by subverting Christianity

In Ozzy Osbourne's hands, Satan gave a middle finger to hypocrisy and fearmongering. The now-deceased rock star lifted up a mirror to a society obsessed with sin, and he laughed. Ozzy Osbourne is dead, and some Christians may believe that the devil ushered him straight to the gates of hell. Few pop culture icons were as important, or as controversial, as Osbourne. The British-born rocker became the avatar of American culture wars more than a half-century ago by attempting to showcase the hypocrisy of modern religion. Osbourne launched his career in the late 1960s. Sensitive to cultural currents, he recognized what was happening not just in music, but also in religion and politics. He used it to build on the image of rock as subversive and countercultural. Ozzy Osbourne saw society's fears and leaned into them From the start, Osbourne understood how to bring attention to his art. Calling his band Black Sabbath sent a clear message. He aimed to subvert, not honor, Christianity. He integrated crosses, demonic imagery and symbols of the devil such as bats into his performances to highlight what he saw as the absurdity of organized religion. Ozzy Osbourne tribute: Coldplay gives Ozzy Osbourne an emotional tribute at Nashville concert Osbourne sang lyrics in his first album about a 'figure in black' that directed him, and in another song, he took on the persona of Satan himself: 'My name is Lucifer, please take my hand.' In Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" album, released at the height of the Vietnam War, he sang 'War Pigs,' a song in which Satan laughed and spread his wings as political and military elites led the Western world to the doorstep of the apocalypse. Such allusions to the demonic continued in album after album. Osbourne's career developed parallel to a new understanding of Satan. In the post-World War II era, the devil assumed a more prominent role in American life. Anton LaVey's founding of the Church of Satan in 1966 celebrated Satan as a symbol of rebellion, individualism and secular liberation. In other words, Satan was the opposite of everything anxious Cold War parents wanted to instill in their kids. Artists drew on this revamped Satan in their work. Films like "The Exorcist" (1973) and "The Omen" (1976) brought Satan − and fears of Satan's ability to inhabit human bodies − into the imaginations of millions of people. Osbourne made those themes central to his music. Christian conservatives fretted that Dungeons & Dragons, Ouija boards and horror films were gateways to demonic influence. High-profile cases like the McMartin preschool trial and the publication of memoirs about escaping satanic ritual abuse fueled widespread panic. Law enforcement agencies conducted seminars on occult crime, therapists uncovered repressed memories of ritual abuse and talk shows amplified claims of underground satanic cults. The panic revealed deep anxieties about child safety, cultural change and the perceived decline of Christian values in American society. Perhaps, parents and religious leaders wondered, was Osbourne driving kids into satanism? Perhaps his music was brainwashing the nation's youth? Conservative Christians − including evangelicals, Catholics and Latter-day Saints − believe in a cosmic battle between angels and demons that directly influences human affairs. They believe that unseen spiritual battles determine real-world outcomes, particularly in culture, politics and morality. Many of them also believed they had to protect children from music like Osbourne's. This framework encouraged social conservatives to interpret issues like abortion, LGBTQ+ rights and the de-Christianizing of culture as evidence of demonic influence, necessitating counteraction through prayer, activism and political engagement. Osbourne and the genre of hard rock that he helped to promote contributed to their fears. In their minds, Osbourne was encouraging youth to rebel. And he was. Life on a 'Crazy Train': A timeline of Ozzy Osbourne's odyssey Osbourne saw the devil as a symbol of rebellion Osbourne's fans understood what the rock star was doing. They loved it. The more angry Osbourne could make their parents, and the more he could rile up moral crusaders, the better. And he agreed. Playing with the devil became a hallmark of his long career. From witch hunts in Salem to conspiracy theories driving QAnon, Americans have used Satan to facilitate a politics of fear. They have used him to justify persecution, fuel moral panics, shape political and cultural battles, and assess global crises and war. But there has always been another side to Satan, the one Osbourne captured. His devil wasn't the horned villain of Christian nightmares but a trickster, a rebel, a symbol of freedom from sanctimony. In Osbourne's hands, Satan gave a theatrical middle finger to hypocrisy and lifted up a mirror to a society obsessed with sin, and he laughed. His life reminds us that sometimes, dancing with the devil is really just refusing to march in lockstep with the saints. Teen Cuts Contact with Adoptive Parents After They Missed Graduation to Buy $350 ‘Rare' Labubu for Biological Daughter

The Teen wrote on Reddit that she only got a $150 gift for her big day An 18-year-old girl is wondering if she made the right decision in cutting off her adoptive parents after they missed almost all of her graduation to buy their biological daughter a "super rare" Labubu doll. Taking to Reddit's popular "Am I the A-----" subreddit, the teen said that she felt "justified" but wanted a second opinion. She explained that her parents had fertility struggles when they adopted her as a baby. Eight years later, they welcomed their "miracle" baby — whom she referred to as Princess, now 10. "Princess was spoiled and clearly the favorite. She never got in trouble, was always right, got WHATEVER she wanted and acted HOWEVER she wanted," she explained. While she didn't say she was mistreated, she wrote that she felt "jealous" of the extra attention and gifts given to her younger sister. The recent graduate said that she mostly stays out of the house to cut contact with Princess. "Now I have a car and a boyfriend (since sophomore year). I stay with him a lot and his family loves me so I'm barely home, maybe 24 hours at most weekly. My parents didn't care and this was my normal so I stopped caring too," she wrote. The situation took a turn for the worse on the day of her graduation, which the teen said was "one of the few things I asked my parents to come to." Her excitement about the day was dulled when Princess found a way to "ruin" it. "See her current obsession are these doll plush keychains called Labubus, she collects them and that specific day, she found this super rare one for sale in our city," she wrote. "Now instead of contacting the seller and buying it the next day, my parents went to go get it." She continued, saying that they showed up so late for graduation that the students were already tossing their caps. Making it worse, she shared that the Labubu cost $350, and her graduation gift from her parents was $150. "I was hurt. After graduation, I ignored them and went home with my boyfriend. I've basically moved in with him at this point since anytime I went back 'home' it was to get my things to go back. My parents called, texted, apologized, even came over and begged me to forgive them, worst part of it all, they think it's the money and sent me another hundred dollars. I refused to talk to them," she wrote. The situation is getting more "serious," she said, sharing that her parents were "threatening to report me as missing/ a runaway and contact my future college if I don't go back home." Many Redditors rushed to assure the user that her actions were entirely justified. "Sibling favoritism is so crazy to me and i think it's so unfair to the one being treated poorly. The fact that they only thought it was about the money speaks high volumes about their character. it doesn't help their case either that they adopted you and can't show you the same love they have for their 'real' offspring," one person replied. They continued, adding, "i wouldn't forgive them nor would i go back to their house for a good while. until they can understand what they are doing is completely unacceptable." is now available in the Apple App Store! "Been there, yo. people don't realize how much the 'little things' build up over time. you don't have to accept the bare minimum just 'cause it's coming from family. you deserve effort, too," another Redditor noted. Calling them "hurtful and dismissive," another person wrote that the girl's parents "prioritized a toy over your graduation." Others spoke to the legality of the situation, with many pointing out that she was legally an adult. Since she was 18, her parents had no control over what she also provided some advice and words of warning: "I would call your future college and explain that you are estranged from your parents. Tell them your parents are threatening to call the college and make a scene. Update all your contact info. Ask that a note be put on your profile that you do not authorize them to make any changes or obtain any information." "Honestly missing an important event like graduation for some stupid and expensive keychain, is just the straw that broke the camels back," another user commiserated. "I understand the princess being a miracle baby, but I have a feeling that in the next five to ten years your parents are really going to regret not disciplining her more."
