The View Remembers Malcolm-Jamal Warner originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On Tuesday's episode of The View, the co-hosts paid tribute to actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Warner best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on the hit 80s and 90s NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, died in an accidental drowning in Costa Rica over the weekend while on vacation with his family. He was 54. Whoopi Goldberg said about Warner's passing: He was really a great kid. I knew him well, I mean, it just…You know, the person who [broke the news to her] sent me a note that said, this is why what you did on Friday matters, and that is something that I will impart to you all. Because our lives move so quickly and we can disappear at any second, do not let much time pass before you say to your loved ones, hey, I'm thinking of you or hey, how you doing? Make sure you contact somebody today and reach out. Co-host revealed she knew The Resident star due to previously dating his friend, stated how down to earth he was. According to Hostin: I knew him also – I dated his friend – and he was always so nice to me. He didn't behave the way I thought movie stars or television stars would behave. He was very welcoming to this kind of outsider. Hostin went on to explain how important Warner was in pop culture especially in the Black community and how he and the show represented a positive representation of the Black family. Hostin stated: I think [Warner's death] was so shocking because of the place that he had in pop culture for African Americans. I remember growing up and watching this family as a kid from the South Bronx projects, watching a Black doctor and Black lawyer married to each other living in a beautiful Brooklyn townhouse. And for me, it became something that was a possibility. That depiction, I think, was an overdue corrective against these harmful stereotypes of the Black community that existed for so very long, and he was just such a crucial part of it, especially I think for young Black men. Sweeney revealed to that despite no longer residing in LA and moving to Arizona, things weren't bad for her; that was all due to how she was brought up. Sweeney stated: I was really lucky. I'm from LA, so it wasn't a big fish-out of-water story, and my parents are super grounded and normal and real and tough and strict. I was never left out on my own to figure that out. I was always really guided by my brothers and my parents, who were all very loving. How does Sweeney prevent her marriage of 25 years to Dave Sanov from falling victim to the Hollywood curse? Communication. Sweeney stated: Communication is key. I know that's maybe too cheesy to say, but just staying in contact, talking all the time, checking in on the little things. I used to say that gestures, loving gestures are so important, but it's not romantic. Like, 'Oh, bring me flowers every week.' It's little things like, he charges my phone for me when I can't find it. I make him cappuccino in the morning just to be nice. And then not only doing those things for your partner, but recognizing … and acknowledging them and allowing that to be the sweet care and gesture that it is. Beyond The Gates Recap: Nicole Rips Ted to Shreds originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates recap: Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Vernon is distraught as he tells Anita he was trying to spare Martin. Anita thinks he did as he's not in prison. She says he has spent the past two years with his family and earning praise for his work in the community. Had he gone to the authorities, Martin likely would have been behind bars. Vernon still thinks it was the worst decision of his life. Anita says they have to move forward. Just then, Martin walks in and says he wants to speak again to his mother. Hotel – Ted's Room: Ted is thrilled to see Nicole at his door. She says she knows everything about the last two years. Ted genuinely seems to not understand and is even more confused when she mentions Martin's press conference. He's been in surgery all day and isn't in the loop. Nicole says she knows he has kept the truth from both her and their son all this time. Nicole can't believe he kept yet another bombshell secret. She says her mother filled her in on everything earlier. Ted can't believe she knows the truth and is responding in this way as he did what he did for her. He knows what it's like to make a horrible mistake and want to make it go away. Nicole notes he even hid the truth from Martin. Ted can't imagine why he would tell Martin and also notes none of this situation is about her. Nicole can't believe the people she loves don't trust her enough to tell her the truth. She wonders if Ted was under orders from 'the Dupree High Command.' Ted says they were all trying to protect Martin. Nicole can't imagine her son needed protecting from his mother. She can't believe Ted would be so cruel as to keep him from confiding in his mother all this time. Nicole says the very slim possibility they would ever get back together is gone for good. They continue to argue until Nicole says she is ready to take next steps and makes her exit. Jacob and Naomi's Place: Jacob is beyond confused about Smitty going from being his partner in an investigation to giving him the silent treatment and trying to kill the Malone story. He thinks he is covering for Martin, but Naomi can't imagine her cousin doing anything worthy of covering up. She asks what's changed and Jacob tells her about the body in the park and Martin calling off his presser. When he went back to Smitty, he completely shut down and claimed spousal privilege. Naomi, once again, says Martin is clean. Jacob reminds her that he is talking about her family… Naomi thinks Smitty was right by claiming spousal privilege. Jacob is still beside himself when Naomi flips the script and wonders if he's thinking about whether or not his father is complicit. Jacob doesn't want to think about it but Naomi notes it's a real possibility. She tells her husband to slow his roll and remember which family he's still a part of. Dani's Digs: Andre and Dani are basking in the afterglow of their latest romp. He asks what prompted the call and she discusses her conversation with Bill. They snark back and forth about Bill and Ashley when Dani says Andre is free to do whatever and whomever he chooses. Andre wants to talk about their future but Dani wants to stay focused on the present. Just then, Vernon calls and summons Dani to the mansion. Bill's Law Office: Chelsea walks into Bill's office and can't believe he put them in this position. Bill is confused until he realizes she's talking about the copyright issue with her purse design. Bill admits he's been overwhelmed and promises to get on top of it. Chelsea wonders what's up as her father never lets things fall through the cracks. Garland Memorial Hospital: Derek walks in and right past Ashley to chat with Shanice. He admits she was right about her exercise suggestions, as Ashley side eyes the duo. Ashley calls someone and says she needs backup. Derek tells Shanice how much she makes him smile. She wonders if they're time together is simply to make each other smile. Shanice wonders if the heat between them is a real thing or is Derek just trying to push Ashley's buttons. Derek wonders if it's ok if it's both which makes Shanice giggle. Shanice plays with Ashley by laughing about nothing. Derek is tickled by Shanice and thinks they are at the beginning of a very fun connection. Just then, Andre arrives and Ashley makes a big, loud deal about it. He wonders if she is feverish as Ashley called him to come over. She whispers and tells him to just follow her lead. Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Dani is horrified after learning about what happened tow years prior. Martin admits it was all horrifying. Vernon says Dani and Nicole never faced anything so terrible and hoped they never would. Martin wonders if he made assumptions about those white men the way they did about them. Dani rises and goes to Martin to says she loves him and thanks him for protecting her father. With that, they embrace. They all discuss the entire situation as Martin worries his mother will never forgive him. Dani says every decision he made allowed their safe return home. In addition, she notes he would have told his children to do the same thing he did two years prior. The mention of his children reminds him of Kenneth's recent tour through Fairmont Crest. He realizes he could lose his family for good. Just then, Nicole storms in. Everyone leaves the room so Martin and his mama can be alone. Nicole wants her baby boy to get some sleep as she knows he's exhausted. They exchange I love yous and embrace. Hotel – Ted's Room: Bill arrives to see Ted with a drink already in his hands. Ted pours his own as they talk about their tragic days. They take a seat and Bill notes Nicole doesn't know the whole truth about dead Kenneth. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Derek decides he's the adult and approaches Ashley for a conversation. He mentions what it feels like to keep living your life whilst trying to move along. Ashley quickly admits Andre isn't her way of moving on, just a wait to feel supportive. That being said, she is stunned by his new connection with Shanice. Bill tells Ted to chill because the immediate threat to all of them is dead and gone. Ted isn't so sure it's ok to celebrate a death. Martin texts Smitty and tells him about his day and how he loves him beyond measure. Nicole has retreated back to Dani's place and she serves her sissy a drink. Nicole wishes they could go back to being teenagers and Dani is all kinds of game. She misses the time when she and her sissy were simply and unshakeable duo.
