Karan Johar opens up on mending ties with ‘big star' Kartik Aaryan after fallout: 'Family mein shikwe ho jaate hain'

Hindustan Times10-06-2025
In 2021, filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Kartik Aaryan reportedly had a fallout, which led to Kartik's exit from Dostana 2. However, the two buried the hatchet three years later by joining hands for the comedy film Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Karan revealed what led to the reconciliation. (Also Read: It's been a refreshing challenge: Karan Johar on making his debut on audio platform)
When asked how he and Kartik decided to work together again after parting ways, Karan replied, 'I think we internally discussed it, worked it out and let bygones be bygones. Kartik is an immensely hardworking actor and a very connective big star today who has a wide audience space. He has a great instinct on screenplay. He and I met, collaborated and decided to come together — it was all lovely.'
He added, 'I have had, he's had issues with each other, but it's a tiny industry, which I call a family. I believe that in a family, kabhi kabhi gile shikwe ho jaate hain (sometimes complaints and misunderstandings happen), but I think good people want to make good films, create good content and, as I said, we don't sweat the small stuff — we have a larger vision to look at.'
Earlier, Dharma Productions had announced Dostana 2 in 2019 with Kartik and Janhvi Kapoor. The filming of the project came to a standstill due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and later, the production house announced that the cast would be reconsidered — marking Kartik's exit. Soon after, reports of a fallout between Karan and Kartik surfaced. However, they have since reconciled.
Kartik will be seen in the romantic comedy Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, which also stars Ananya Panday. The actors are currently shooting for the film. Helmed by Sameer Vidwans, who earlier directed Kartik in SatyaPrem Ki Katha, the film is backed by Karan Johar and is scheduled to release in theatres on February 13, 2026. He also has another film titled Nagzilla, set to release in cinemas on August 14, 2026.

Exhibition in Thiruvananthapuram highlights conversations on social issues

The works of 13 artists are on display at an exhibition titled Karu, which addresses pressing social issues. Thumbi, the curator of the exhibition, shares that the unique title was originally intended for a magazine. 'We hoped to address more issues and ideas through the magazine. And then, we came across Sree Narayana Guru's Atmopadesha Satakam, and in it was the word Karu. We looked it up in a dictionary and found that it means nucleus, core, and also has other interesting meanings like black, hard, something valuable, a type of drum, etc. All of these meanings connect with the works in the show,' she states. Speaking about the artists participating in the exhibition, she says, 'The artists are people we met during our journey with the art collective Untitled Kitchen. Some of these works were specifically made for the magazine while others are contributions from their existing body of work. For example, Mrudula's poem Postmortem Report, which addressed the suicide of Sidharthan JS, a veterinary university student, allegedly due to ragging. It wasn't published, but after I discussed the idea behind the exhibition, she suggested this work.' One of the featured artists is Devu Nenmara, a labourer who started painting with materials given to her by her son, artist Unnikrishnan, during the COVID lockdown. 'When we included Devu Amma's work, the idea was to reflect on who gets to be called an artist and what qualifies as an artistic practice. Devu Amma painted what she saw growing up — the colours she is familiar with, her memories. Even at her age, she is documenting her world, and that act is what we love to consider as artistic practice. The by-product could be anything — even something an ordinary person may not find visually pleasing — but the act of returning to the work can be considered art,' Thumbi explains.

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum in Bengaluru turns 60, revamps gallery to Fun City

Bengaluru: As it marks its diamond jubilee, Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM) in the city remains a vital centre for science learning, with eight galleries and over 350 exhibits across 4,000 sqm in Cubbon Park. To commemorate 60 years, the museum is set to unveil a revamped version of its popular Fun Science Gallery, now rebranded as Fun City, this Sunday. The gallery will open to public at the museum building. New look for a long-standing gallery The Fun Science gallery, a fixture at VITM for years, has undergone a complete overhaul. The redesigned space features 40 exhibits, digital interfaces, and an updated layout, covering topics such as illusion art, fluid dynamics, pendulums, multi-colour shadows, classical mechanisms, and more. "The idea was to refresh the entire gallery. People want novelty. Fun City includes hands-on setups — from optical illusions and kinetic puzzles to experiments with sound, light and force — to make science more accessible. Science is not only for BSc or MSc students; anyone can enjoy it," Bhaskaran added. Space & attention are challenges Despite its popularity, the museum is constrained by limited space. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 3 & 4 BHK Starts ₹1.65 Cr in Kukatpally Honer Signatis Book Now Undo "We have eight galleries and 350 exhibits, but no room to add new crowd-pullers like the Chandrayaan-3 model," said Cyril Babu, curator, VITM. "On busy days, we see 5,000 to 10,000 visitors. The galleries are already full. We've raised the issue with the govt, but there's been no resolution yet." Cubbon Park's zoning restrictions and fire safety norms rule out vertical expansion as well. Another challenge is the diminishing attention span of visitors. "We provide detailed labels and videos, but most visitors skip them. Even 3-4 minute clips are often found to be too long," Bhaskaran said. Footfall recovers, but costs rise After a sharp dip during the pandemic, visitor numbers are slowly returning to pre-Covid levels. "We used to receive around 10 lakh visitors annually. That dropped to about 3 lakh during the pandemic. Last year, we climbed back to 9 lakh," Bhaskaran said. To manage rising operational costs, VITM will marginally increase ticket prices from Rs 95 to Rs 100 from Aug 1. "We're required to revise prices for maintenance. We have a small team of 80 handling administration and upkeep, despite heavy footfall," Bhaskaran added. Looking ahead Plans are already in place to renovate the electro-technical gallery next year. "The goal is to ignite curiosity. We want every visitor, especially children, to realise that science is not out of reach. Science is evolving constantly, and while we are doing our best to keep up, we need more space to grow," Babu said. She is gearing up for the release of Dhadak 2 with Siddhant Chaturvedi, and it was during the promotions that she spoke about her Bad Newz co-star Vicky Kaushal. What's Happening Triptii Dimri revealed the one thing she would love to learn from Vicky Kaushal as an actor. She told ETimes, "He's a very, very sweet and a very talented guy - and very humble. I think I'm very, very patient. I think that patience I want to learn from him." Furthermore, she added, "He can work for 24 hours without saying a word. He's just too good. And I think I asked him one day, How do you go on and on without any complaints?" "He's like, 'This is what I always wanted in life.' And that gave me an answer to so many things. That patience, I think, I would want," concluded the Animal actress.
