
Notorious Gangster Detained Under MPDA in Nagpur
Nagpur: Commissioner of police Ravinder Singal issued a restraining order under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act, 1981, against Harsh alias Pinda Anandpawar, a 21-year-old notorious gangster from Maratha Chowk, Naik Talav.
Known for a string of serious crimes, including murder, robbery with deadly weapons, criminal conspiracy, and extortion, Harsh has been terrorising the Pachpaoli and Sadar areas.
Despite prior preventive actions under CrPC Sections 107 and 110 in 2022, his criminal activities escalated, disrupting public order. Following a proposal from the senior police inspector of Pachpaoli, and the Crime Branch's MPDA department, the commissioner ordered his detention. Harsh is currently lodged in Nagpur Central Jail, awaiting transfer to Dhule District Jail.

Haryana: RTI activist, YouTuber held for extortion in Gurugram
An RTI activist and a YouTuber were arrested on Friday for allegedly blackmailing and extorting money from the chairman of a private school by misusing the Right to Information (RTI) Act, police said on Saturday. An FIR has been registered against the accused at Sector 37 police station based on a complaint filed by Pradeep Kaushik, chairman of GAV International School. (HT File) The accused have been identified as Sukhbir Tanwar, a self-proclaimed RTI activist, and MK Maurya, a YouTuber. Both were produced before a city court and have been sent to judicial custody. An FIR has been registered against them at Sector 37 police station based on a complaint filed by Pradeep Kaushik, chairman of GAV International School. According to Kaushik's complaint, Tanwar filed an RTI against his school in the education department in October 2022 and allegedly began using the information to blackmail him. Kaushik claimed that Tanwar filed a court case to pressure him and later demanded ₹ 10 lakh for withdrawing it. Kaushik stated that he paid ₹ 2.5 lakh to Tanwar at the court premises on December 5, 2024, to safeguard the school's reputation. Although Tanwar withdrew the case on April 8, the alleged blackmailing continued. Kaushik said new RTIs were filed in other departments, including the income tax department, on April 15. In his complaint, Kaushik said Tanwar demanded ₹ 5 lakh more, this time contacting him through YouTuber Maurya. On May 8, Kaushik met the duo at his school in Sector 37 and handed over ₹ 25,000 as part of the demanded sum. The meeting was captured on CCTV, which was later submitted to the police as evidence. Following the complaint, police arrested both accused and confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway. 'The accused were sent to jail after being produced in court. Further probe is ongoing,' said a senior police officer.

Punjab: Jalandhar drug peddler's house demolished

The structure was razed by the authorities as part of the state government's ongoing drive to demolish encroachments under 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' (anti-drug war). Cops were deployed at the site to assist municipal officials during the drive. MCworkers at work in Basti Gujan area of Jalandhar on Saturday. Commissioner of police Dhanpreet Kaur said the MC had received information about an illegal construction by 'notorious drug smuggler Vishal'. She said the accused is a habitual offender with four cases registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Two Indonesian nationals with weed worth ₹21.55 cr arrested

(Shutterstock) Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a premises in Jogeshwari and seized the contraband. The accused arrested were identified as Budi Wiyono, 44, and Rakhmat Ardi Hidayat, 39. Hydroponic weed, or hydro weed, is cannabis typically grown indoors using a hydroponic method in a fully controlled environment, said officials. The police are trying to find where the accused had procured the weed from and where they planned to supply it. Indian arriving from Bangkok held with weed Customs officers apprehended an Indian national at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Friday after he arrived from Bangkok and recovered 5.119 kg of hydroponic weed from his checked-in baggage. They seized the contraband that carried an estimated illicit market value of ₹ 5.119 crore. The narcotics were seized as per the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The passenger was immediately arrested.
