Two Indonesian nationals with weed worth ₹21.55 cr arrested

MUMBAI: Two Indonesian nationals were arrested by the Oshiwara police on Thursday with 21.552 kg of hydroponic weed, valued at around ₹ 21.55 crore in the illicit market. (Shutterstock)
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a premises in Jogeshwari and seized the contraband. The accused arrested were identified as Budi Wiyono, 44, and Rakhmat Ardi Hidayat, 39.
Hydroponic weed, or hydro weed, is cannabis typically grown indoors using a hydroponic method in a fully controlled environment, said officials.
The police are trying to find where the accused had procured the weed from and where they planned to supply it.
Indian arriving from Bangkok held with weed
Customs officers apprehended an Indian national at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Friday after he arrived from Bangkok and recovered 5.119 kg of hydroponic weed from his checked-in baggage. They seized the contraband that carried an estimated illicit market value of ₹ 5.119 crore.
The narcotics were seized as per the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The passenger was immediately arrested.

The woman, identified by community members as Tanpreet Kaur, was walking back to her apartment in Winnipeg after finishing her evening shift late when she was ambushed by two strangers at the 1-99 block of Roslyn Road shortly after midnight on June 23. Winnipeg police said in a statement on Wednesday that bystanders in the area stopped the attack after which suspects quickly fled after stabbing and robbing the victim of her property. 'The victim was stabbed and robbed of her cell phone. During the assault, she was able to disarm the suspect and held onto the knife, while they continued to assault her. Bystanders intervened and called 911 and the suspects ran off,' the police said, adding the woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Rewari village shuns family of Indian Navy staffer arrested for alleged spying
The residents of Rewari's Punsika village in Haryana on Sunday (June 29, 2025) decided to socially boycott the family of Indian Navy staffer, Vishal Yadav, arrested by the intelligence wing of the Rajasthan Police four days ago on charges of spying for Pakistan. Sarpanch Satyalpal Yadav told media persons that a decision had been taken at a meeting to ostracise the family for 'bringing a bad name to the village'. The young men in the village had also been cautioned to not indulge in any such 'illegal and anti-national activities' in the future, he said. Mr. Vishal Yadav belonged to a well-off family, and was good at both studies and sports, Prem Prakash Yadav, a villager, told a news channel. Mr. Vishal Yadav's family had served the country as his grandfather was an ex-serviceman, and his father an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Haryana Police, he added. Although the family had shifted to Rewari five years ago, Mr. Vishal Yadav's arrest has caused embarrassment to the entire village, Mr. Prem Prakash Yadav said, adding, 'It still is difficult for us to believe it.' Sunil, another villager, said Mr. Vishal Yadav had not been in touch with the villagers after his family had shifted out. 'We felt bad to learn about his arrest. Himachal set to launch statewide anti-drug campaign, says CM Sukhu
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu on Sunday said the government is preparing to launch a large-scale statewide anti-drug campaign. 'Mapping is being conducted at the panchayat ward level to facilitate targeted intervention,' he said, adding the government is also forming a Special Task Force to clamp down on drug trafficking. Additionally, 500 new posts will be filled in the Police Department to strengthen enforcement efforts. 'Youth are the future of our nation, and protecting them from the menace of drugs is a collective responsibility,' said the Chief Minister, reiterating the government's policy of zero tolerance towards drug abuse. The Chief Minister was speaking after the facilitation ceremony of the 12th HP Police Half Marathon in Shimla. He honoured winners of the marathon, which featured participation in men, women, and senior citizens' (75 plus) categories. Expressing concern over the involvement of government employees in drug-related activities, the Chief Minister said strict action has been taken against 80 government employees. He said even police personnel have been found involved in drug trafficking activities, adding the government is considering to amend the police manual to ensure greater accountability within the force. The CM said the state is working on a two-pronged strategy -- strict enforcement and a sensitive approach towards victims. The government has implemented the PIT-NDPS Act, which was not enforced during the previous BJP government's five-year tenure. Under this Act, 40 detention orders have been approved, 36 of which were issued this year. The government has also demolished properties belonging to seven drug peddlers and is actively pursuing action against others, he added. Also, the state has passed the HP Anti-Drugs Act, which distinguishes between offenders and victims. He urged parents to maintain open communication with their children and educate them about the harmful effects of drugs.
