The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on Tuesday approved proposals worth approximately Rs 67,000 crore to upgrade the operational capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces. The decisions cover key acquisitions and upgrades for the Army, Navy, and the Air Force, an official statement said. For the Army, the DAC approved the procurement of Thermal Imager-based Night Sights for drivers of BMP infantry vehicles. This move is aimed at enhancing the nighttime mobility of mechanised infantry units, improving their operational effectiveness during low-visibility conditions.advertisementThe Navy will get a boost with the procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft (CASC), which are designed for anti-submarine warfare.
These unmanned vessels will boost the Navy's ability to detect, identify, and neutralise underwater threats. Additionally, the Navy will receive updated BrahMos missile fire control systems and launchers, along with an upgrade to the existing BARAK-1 missile system, improving its point defence capabilities. In a significant move to enhance air surveillance and defence, the Air Force will procure advanced Mountain Radars. These radars are designed to improve monitoring and threat detection along India's mountainous borders. The DAC also cleared the upgradation of the SAKSHAM/SPYDER weapon systems, allowing them to be integrated with the Integrated Air Command and Control System, thereby strengthening the overall air defence network. All three services—Army, Navy, and Air Force—will benefit from the acquisition of Medium Altitude Long Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft. These drones are capable of carrying multiple weapons and payloads, and can operate over long distances for extended durations. Their deployment will significantly enhance surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat readiness around the clock. In addition to new acquisitions, the DAC also approved long-term maintenance and support measures for critical existing systems. This includes support for the Air Force's C-17 and C-130J transport aircraft fleets, as well as a comprehensive annual maintenance contract for the S-400 long-range air defence missile system. All the proposals fall under the 'Acceptance of Necessity' category, marking the first step in the procurement process. The approvals reflect India's continued push towards enhancing self-reliance in defence and strengthening the capabilities of its armed forces across all domains.- Ends

Knowledge Realty Trust REIT IPO subscribed 1.2 times on Day 1

The initial share sale of Knowledge Realty Trust, sponsored by realty firm Sattva Group and Blackstone, got fully subscribed on the first day of bidding on Tuesday and ended the day with 1.20 times subscription. The Rs 4,800-crore REIT initial public offering (IPO) received bids for 25,04,91,300 units against 20,84,20,800 units on offer, translating into 1.20 times subscription, as per NSE data. Institutional Investors category received 75 per cent subscription while other investors (such as corporates, and individuals investors/NRI and HUF) category was subscribed 1.75 times, as per the NSE data. Knowledge Realty Trust on Monday said it had garnered Rs 1,620 crore from anchor investors, including those from Amundi, Wells Capital, Jhunjhunwala Trust. Additionally, the company received a strategic allocation of Rs 1,200 crore from institutional investors. The IPO will conclude on August 7. The company has set a price band of Rs 95 to Rs 100 per unit. This IPO is entirely a fresh issuance of units by Knowledge Realty Trust. In early March, KRT filed the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with Sebi to launch an IPO and list the REIT on stock exchanges. This is part of a strategy to monetise its 30 prime office assets across major cities. Initially, the company planned to raise a total of Rs 6,200 through a public issue. In June, it raised Rs 1,400 crore from investors. Accordingly, the issue size has been reduced to Rs 4,800 crore. KRT is set to become India's largest REIT by gross asset value (around Rs 62,000 crore). Its net operating income stood at Rs 3,432 crore in the previous financial year. KRT owns over 46 million sq ft of office assets across 29 assets in six cities, primarily Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The assets include One BKC and One World Center in Mumbai, Knowledge City, and Knowledge Park in Hyderabad and Cessna Business Park and Sattva Softzone in Bengaluru. Blackstone and Sattva will continue to own about 80 per cent of the REIT. At present, there are four listed REITs (real estate investment trusts) in India -- Brookfield India Real Estate Trust, Embassy Office Parks REIT, Mindspace Business Parks REIT, and Nexus Select Trust. Apart from Nexus Select Trust, the other three REITs are backed by rent-yielding office assets. Nexus owns a large portfolio of retail real estate spaces. Bengaluru-based Sattva Developers has so far constructed 74 million sq ft across seven Indian cities in commercial, residential, co-living, co-working, hospitality, and data centre sectors. An additional 75 million sq ft is in the planning and implementation stage. Blackstone, one of the leading global investment firms, has a huge exposure in the Indian real estate market. The two sponsors have decided to adopt a brand-neutral strategy to grow the KRT portfolio inorganically through third-party acquisitions. The existing four REITs have a combined portfolio of over 126 million sq ft of Grade A office and retail space across the country. Since their inception, these REITs have collectively distributed over Rs 21,000 crore to unitholders.

Rs 250000000000 at stake, 200 fifth-gen powerful fighter jets, 16 jets for price of just one…, India leaves everyone….

New Delhi: You must have read about the recent reports about how India is facing a massive shortage of fighter jets with some reports taking the number to a need of at least 42 squadrons of fighter planes to maintain balance with two fronts, namely China and Pakistan. In the need to fulfill the requirements, India is looking for options like the Russian Su-57 fighter jets and the US F-35 jet. However, both these deals come at huge cost and geopolitical implications. What is Indian Air Force planning? In a major boost to the airpower and air superiority of the Indian Air Force, India is upgrading 200 Su-30MKI fighter jets under a Rs 25,000 crore project, aiming to transform them into near 5th-generation combat platforms. What's Virupaksha' AESA radar? In order to make the upgrade, the IAF is planning to use the indigenous 'Virupaksha' AESA radar, developed by DRDO, which significantly enhances detection range, multi-target tracking, and electronic warfare capabilities. Alongside the radar, the Su-30MKI fighter jets will receive upgraded engines, new avionics, and advanced Indian-made weapons like Astra missiles and BrahMos-ER, making them more dangerous. This move not only modernizes India's frontline air fleet but also strengthens the push for defence self-reliance by increasing indigenous components in the Su-30MKIs. India's 5th-generation stealth fighter jet gets key clearance Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the Execution Model for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. The AMCA clearance marks a critical step towards realising India's goal of joining an elite club of nations in designing and producing its own fleet of next-generation combat aircraft. The project will be helmed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), said the Defence Ministry in a press release. The AMCA, widely seen as India's answer to fifth-generation air power, will give a major boost to achieving 'atmanirbharata' in the defence sector and will become a hallmark of India's growing defence capabilities. Big boost for Indian Armed Forces: Centre clears ₹67,000 crore proposals

The Defence Acquisition Council under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday cleared proposals worth nearly ₹ 67,000 crore to enhance operational capability of armed forces, the Centre said. The proposals include several defence equipment requirements for the Indian Army, Navy and the Air Force. The DAC gave an Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to the Indian Army to procure Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sight for BMP. 'This would enhance night driving capability of BMP and provide higher mobility and operational advantage to the Mechanised Infantry,' the defence ministry said in a press release. The council, headed by Rajnath Singh, also accorded an AoN to the Indian Navy whereby it can procure the Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, and BrahMos Fire Control System and Launchers. A proposal to upgrade the BARAK-1 Point Defence Missile System was also cleared. The procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft will provide the capability to the Indian Navy for detection, classification and neutralisation of threats in anti-submarine warfare missions, the Centre said. For the Indian Air Force, AoN for procurement of Mountain Radars and Upgradation of SAKSHAM/SPYDER Weapon System was accorded. The procurement of mountain radars will enhance the air surveillance capability along and across the borders in the mountainous region. The upgradation of the SAKSHAM/SPYDER System for integration with the Integrated Air Command and Control System will enhance the Air Defence capability, the ministry said. An AoN was accorded for procuring Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) for the three Services. The proposed MALE RPAs can carry multiple payloads & weapons and operate at longer ranges for long endurance missions. They will significantly enhance the round-the-clock surveillance and combat capability of the Armed Forces.
