Baltimore Orioles pound 4 homers and 16 hits to beat AL-East leading Blue Jays 11-4
Cedric Mullins, Coby Mayo and Colton Cowser also homered for the last-place Orioles, who amassed 16 hits against the AL East leaders.
The game took a scary turn in the ninth inning when Toronto's George Springer was hit in the back of the helmet by a fastball thrown by Kade Strowd. After lying prone for several minutes, Springer got up very slowly and left the field.
Bo Bichette had four straight hits for Toronto before grounding into a game-ending double play. He went 5 for 5 Sunday in Detroit, and the nine straight hits are a franchise record.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Nathan Lukes homered for the Blue Jays, who have yielded 21 runs in their last two games after winning eight of nine following the All-Star break.
Chris Bassitt (11-5) gave up six runs and seven hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Corbin Martin (1-0) got the win in relief of Baltimore starter Zach Eflin. It was Martin's second career victory, the first coming in 2019 with Houston.
Baltimore went up 10-4 with a four-run fifth inning that featured a two-run homer by Laureano. Rutschman got the uprising started with the second of his two doubles.
After languishing on the 10-day injured list since June 21 with left oblique strain, Rutschman returned to go 3 for 5 from the cleanup spot.
Mullins made a spectacular leaping catch at the center field wall in the fourth inning to rob Lukes of a two-run drive that would have tied the game at 6.
Toronto is dominating the AL East, but is 3-4 against the Orioles this season.
The series continues Tuesday with a split doubleheader, the result of a rainout on April 11. The first game starts at 12:35 p.m. EDT, and the nightcap at 6:35 p.m.

CHICAGO (AP) — Cincinnati left-hander Nick Lodolo abruptly left Monday night's game against the Chicago Cubs with two outs in the bottom of the second inning with a blister on his left index finger. Lodolo retired the first five Cubs hitters. Then after throwing a strike on his first pitch to Justin Turner, Lodolo gestured toward his left hand. Manager Terry Francona jogged to the mound with a trainer for a brief discussion. Lodolo walked to the dugout and was replaced by Nick Martinez with the Reds ahead 1-0. Martinez got Turner to fly to right for the final out of the second. Lodolo entered at 8-6 with a 3.09 ERA. Kyle Schwarber's 2-run shot, grand slam powers Phillies to 13-3 rout of Orioles
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Kyle Schwarber homered twice, including a grand slam in Philadelphia's eight-run sixth inning, and the Phillies pounded the Baltimore Orioles 13-3 win on Monday night. Schwarber finished with six RBIs, running his major league-leading total to 94 on the season. Schwarber's first homer of the game was a two-run shot deep into the second deck that tied it at 3 in the third. He heard 'MVP! MVP!' chants when he came to the plate in the sixth. Schwarber, the All-Star Game MVP, launched his NL-best 40th of the season into the right-center seats off Yaramil Hiraldo for a grand slam that sent the crowd of 41,099 into a frenzy. Harrison Bader homered for the first time since he was acquired by the Phillies at the trade deadline, a tiebreaking three-run shot earlier in the sixth. The Phillies added closer Jhoan Duran and Bader in trades on consecutive days with Minnesota. With his 102.5 mph fastball and electric entrance, Duran was an instant fan favorite in Philly. Bader made his case with a homer off Corbin Martin. Bryce Harper hit a solo shot for the contending Phillies, his 17th. Astros All-Star Isaac Paredes forgoes surgery on 'severe' hamstring injury in hopes of returning this season
Houston Astros All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes has opted to forgo surgery on what the team described as a "severe" hamstring injury in hopes of returning to the lineup this season. General manager Dana Brown discussed the decision with reporters Monday. He said that Paredes had the option of undergoing surgery that would require six months off and end his season or to go through rehab, which would give him a chance to return to the lineup with the Astros in position to make the playoffs. 'He was given two choices — the choice of having surgery or rehabbing,' Brown said, per the Houston Chronicle. 'He selected to rehab it. His whole opinion on this is he wants to work hard to try to get back this season." Paredes sustained his injury while running the bases against the Seattle Mariners on July 19. He went through multiple rounds of imaging to diagnose the injury that Brown said Monday was a 'severe hamstring strain." Paredes also had a platelet-rich plasma injection and will continue to rest the injury before starting a rehab regimen. Before his injury, Paredes was slashing .259/.359/.470 with 19 home runs and 50 RBI. His effort earned him his second career All-Star Game selection in July. With Paredes injured, the Astros bolstered their infield by reuniting with shortstop Carlos Correa via a trade-deadline deal with the Minnesota Twins. They also added utility infielder Ramón Urías from the Baltimore Orioles. Brown called the potential surplus of infielders in the event of Paredes' return "a good problem to have." Houston entered Monday at 63-50 and with a three-game lead over the Seattle Mariners for first place in the AL West.
