Middle-distance runner Twinkle lands in dope net; faces four-year ban
CHENNAI: IT is starting to be bit more frequent. Weeks after Sneha K had to be omitted from the Asian Athletics Championships team, middle distance runner Twinkle Chaudhary tested positive. According to the World Athletics anti-doping watchdog Athletics Integrity Unit(AIU), Twinkle tested positive for anabolic and androgenic steroid (AAS) Methyltestosterone. She was part of the team that travelled to Gumi in May and is understood to have been tested there.
This is another case of high-profile athletes, a national and international medallist testing positive after javelin thrower Shivpal Singh and quarter-miler Sneha this year.
Twinkle has been provisionally suspended. Interestingly, she competed in Taiwan and won silver and at the Asian meet she finished fourth. The event in Taiwan came after the meet in Gumi. At April's senior national federation athletics competition in Kochi, Twinkle represented Reliance and won the 800m with a timing of 2:00.71 (new meet record). It needs to be seen if the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) had tested her. She has been provisionally suspended under World Anti-Doping Agency's anti-doping rule. She faces a maximum of four year ban for first offence.

World Athletics updated the rankings earlier this week, increasing Neeraj's points to 1,445 compared to Peters' tally of 1,431, according to Also, Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem sits at number four with 1,370 points to his name. Neeraj lost his top spot to Peters back in September 2024, just shortly after the Paris Olympics, where he attained a silver medal with a throw of 89.45, and Peters took home the bronze. Neeraj Chopra reclaims World No. 1 rank
Lausanne, (Switzerland) June 28 (UNI) India's javelin ace Neeraj Chopra has reclaimed the World number 1 rank in the latest rankings released by World Athletics. Chopra had lost this position to Grenada's Anderson Peters in September, 2024. In the rankings released earlier this week Chopra has 1445 ranking points compared to Anderson Peters' 1431. Germany's Julian Weber is third in the rankings while Paris Olympic Gold medallist Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan is fourth with 1370 points and Czechia's Jakub Vadlejch completes the top five list. Chopra's consistent performances in 2025 has seen him climb back to the top. Neeraj won the Potch Invitational in Potchefstroom, South Africa in April and followed it up with a second-place finish at the Doha Diamond League in May. He logged a new national record of 90.23m at Doha to enter the coveted 90m club. He was second again at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland but returned to winning ways at the Paris Diamond League in June. He clocked a best of 88.16m in Paris. Neeraj also added the Ostrava Golden Spike title to his kitty earlier this week. Neeraj has Trumped Anderson Peters in all four of their meetings this year.
