Power fault on Bukit Panjang LRT disrupts train services across all stations
In a Facebook post at 2.59pm, SMRT said the power fault happened at about 2.45pm, causing four trains to be stalled between stations.
"Our staff safely guided commuters through the detrainment process from the stalled trains to the nearest stations," said the post, signed off by SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai.
Free regular bridging bus services have been activated for affected commuters.
SMRT added that there were in-train and station announcements to keep commuters updated on the situation, and that its engineers are on-site to investigate and resolve the issue.
"We are sorry for affecting your afternoon commute."
The Bukit Panjang LRT system is an 8km line connecting residential estates within Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang to the North-South and Downtown Lines.

Commuters unaware of diverted buses; largely business as usual for eateries near Tanjong Katong sinkhole
Some commuters were unaware of diverted bus routes following a road closure in Tanjong Katong, after a sinkhole opened up late on Saturday. At least 10 people at one bus stop were not aware their ride was not coming until CNA told them. While some commuters said taking the MRT elsewhere was going to be a hassle, eateries near the site say it's been largely business as usual. Ivy Chok with more.

Forum: Taxi app improvements to be rolled out alongside cancellation policy changes
Find out what's new on ST website and app. We refer to the letter by Dr Do Su Ern (Sort out issues before imposing new taxi cancellation policies , July 22). Dr Do's feedback regarding pick-up location accuracy and timing issues with our app is appreciated. Our current system's automated arrival status notification may sometimes be inaccurate, causing confusion about drivers' actual locations and arrival times. A new feature will be introduced shortly where drivers can only activate 'I've Arrived' when they are close to, or at, the pick-up point. This will improve location accuracy and provide customers with a more precise experience in the app. These operational improvements are being rolled out alongside our policy changes. During this period of adjustment, no cancellation fees will be charged from July 31 to Aug 31, and from Sept 1, riders will receive four free cancellations monthly when the taxi hasn't arrived, with a $4 fee applying thereafter. The charging of waiting fees will start only from Oct 15. Customers with concerns or service issues can contact our customer service centre on 6552 4525 or through the CDG Zig app. We remain committed to improving our service reliability through better technology and training, ensuring a more precise and efficient taxi booking experience for all users. Russia starts first Moscow-Pyongyang passenger flights in decades, World News
Russia will launch direct passenger flights from Moscow to North Korea's capital Pyongyang on Sunday (July 27), Russian authorities said, as the two former communist bloc allies move to improve ties following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The start of regular flights between the capitals for the first time since the mid-1990s, according to Russian aviation blogs, follows the resumption of Moscow-Pyongyang passenger rail service, a 10-day journey, in June. The first flight will leave Sheremetyevo airport at 7 p.m. (12am Singapore time), according to the airport's timetable. The eight-hour flight will be operated by a Boeing 777-200ER with a capacity of 440 passengers, Russia's RIA state news agency said on Sunday. It said tickets started at 44,700 roubles ($721), and the first flight quickly sold out. Russia's civil aviation authority Rosaviatsia has granted Nordwind Airlines permission to operate flights between Moscow and Pyongyang twice a week. The transport ministry said in a statement that for now flights would operate once a month, "to help build stable demand". The only direct air route between Russia and North Korea has been flights by North Korean carrier Air Koryo to Vladivostok in Russia's Far East three times a week. Ukraine and its Western allies have accused North Korea of supplying Russia with artillery and ballistic missiles. Moscow and Pyongyang deny the allegations. Pyongyang has deployed more than 10,000 troops and arms to Russia to back Moscow's military campaign in Ukraine. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said this month his country was ready to "unconditionally support" Moscow's efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. [[nid:644060]]
